2C-B Lab Found in New York

BARTON -- A drug seized in a weekend raid at a clandestine laboratory may have made its first appearance in the state.

CNET Lt. Patrick J. Garey identified the new drug Monday as "2CB," a designer drug 10 times more potent than Ecstasy.

"This is the first known seizure of a clandestine 2CB lab in New York state, and it is also believed to be the first seizure of the substance in New York state," said Garey of the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team.

2CB is identified as a phenethylamine, which usually takes the form of either a red pill or a white powder, according to an Internet Web site.

State police raided a site Sunday on Cayuga Street in the hamlet of Lockwood in the Town of Barton, Tioga County, Garey said. The area north of Waverly has been the hotbed of the county's meth labs in recent years, investigators said.

No arrests have been made in Sunday's raid. "We want to be certain what we are dealing with and that we are within the scope of the law," Garey said.

The confiscated materials have been forwarded to a state police laboratory for testing and positive identification, he said.

The laboratory was discovered after uniformed state police patrols were dispatched to a Lockwood neighborhood at the request of an unidentified homeowner who complained of a disturbance, Garey said.

"The homeowners were not involved in the lab operation discovered on their property and are cooperating fully with the investigation," he said.

Garey identified 2CB as a designer drug similar to Ecstasy but 10 times stronger. It was being made with information obtained over the Internet, he said.

The drug often is taken with LSD or Ecstasy and is reported to be common in the Washington, D.C., area, Garey said. He said it is a synthetic, hallucinogenic substance whose effects last three to six hours.

Garey said the drug produces serious side effects, including confusion, cardiovascular disturbances and dehydration. It goes by various street names such as Nexus, Venus, Bromo and Toonies.

"While the lab seizure is significant, it is not believed to be the start of an epidemic trend similar to methamphetamine use and manufacture in the state," Garey said.

Tioga County is one of the state's leading counties for methamphetamine laboratories.

State police were assisted by their Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team, the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, the Lockwood Volunteer Fire Department and the Tioga County Hazardous Materials Team.

Alot of people compare it to X...If you take it expecting the same reaction you get from MDMA dont bother.... its not the same high... and the two substances were never designed to be interchangeable... 2-cb is more like a mild but speedy mescaline high if you've ever had it... Its hard to describe... as for someone getting sick... I totally believe it ... there are people who are allergic to it... and people who overdo it. The pills are less than half the size of a typical double stack and they feel that 1 wont be enough... 30-40 mg is all you need. MAO inhibitors will also cause a bad reaction to 2-cb... Definately read up on it before you try it... I posted a link to Shulgin's reasearch....read up... it's interesting stuff...
