Just a stone’s throw away from Crobar on 1439 Washington Avenue lies South Beach’s newest nightclub: Club 112 (soon to be SPIN come WMC). Located where the infamous Liquid nightclub proudly held court, Club 112 brings that dark and gritty underground feel back to South Beach.

Opening for Winter Music Conference in March 2005 by Space owner Luis Puig as Spin, Club 112 finally brings veteran clubbers what they have been salivating for, a venue with the old Club Space look and feel!

Inaugurating the opening of Club 112 (Spin), was DJ Bruno and Gabriel Fain with their newest weekly party: “RECESS.â€

After walking up the flight of steps, brick walls greets one prior to entering the main room. After making a right hand turn, the expansive main room stretches out before you.

A medium sized bar stands on one’s right as you enter the main room with a smaller bar located at the opposite end to the left.

Along the entire left hand wall, was a large VIP area replete with couches and tables and sported hardwood flooring.

The main dance floor area was huge. With a great deal of dancing room available, the club is set up for the hardcore “clubber†in mind.

Black leather couches lay before the DJ booth on the dance floor (a mini VIP area).

The DJ booth was similar in style to the old Club Space. Rectangular in design and slightly elevated off the dancefloor. Right next to the DJ booth is a raised stage area with some white leather couches.

Though still undergoing some final tweaks with the lights and sound system (the system needs a little bit more bass to its sound), it looks very promising.

School was now in session, as Gabriel Fain took the decks. Starting off with some smooth progressive house replete with vocals it served as mainly a teaser for the nastiness to come later.

Taking the decks a little bit after 11 pm, Bruno continued where Gabriel Fain left off.

From Kings of Tomorrow’s “Changes†to Moloko’s “Familiar Feeling (Timo Maas remix), the commencement of his set was progressive goodness.

As the night continued, Bruno continued to take the level up, dropping harder house.

From David Penn’s melodic “Deux†and the tribally Dylan Rhymes “Salty†to the familiar Brazilian track Kilombo “Palmares†and a nasty tech-house track by Steve Angelo entitled “Euro Acid,†Bruno was dropping the bombs.

At one point, Bruno started to play Celeda’s “Music Is The Answer†over a Basement Jaxx track. Insane!!

Not yet finished with his handbag of surprises, Bruno even dropped a remix of a KISS track.

Dropping by for the “first day of class,†were quite a few notables. Cedric Gervais (along with his entourage of ladies), Ralph Falcon and Justin Johnson all came out to support Bruno and Gaby’s new party.

Tag-teaming back and forth along with Bruno, Gabriel Fain’s second appearance on the decks brought along some hard banging house.

Only my second time hearing Gaby Fain (the first of which was at Space Afterhours along with Bruno), I enjoyed what I was hearing.

Though the final touches have yet to be delivered to 112 (Spin), the location should prove to be popular with those clubbers that are looking for something a bit different on South Beach. Foregoing the ultra chic look of Amika or pageantry of Crobar, 112’s(Spin) underground feel is a refreshing alternative.
