JOE MAMA

USA born and raised, Joe Musser aka DJ Joe Mama, has been rapidly moving up the ranks of the DJ ladder over the past few years. Joe's roots in music can be traced back to the days when he was accomplished cellist by the age 9. Lacking the necessary guidance to push forward, Joe quickly adapted to the production side, and various support roles in the nightlife industry, starting with stints working for Prince @ Glam Slam, as well as Paisley Park. From there, his interest in a hybridization of electronic, rock, and pop pushed him into the world of today's dance music. Influences ranging from 80's New Wave, to Psychedelic 60's rock, to electronica can be deciphered in Joe's mix selections.

2003 saw major milestones reached as Joe continued his monthly Friday residency at Pravda 116, which was voted Boston's Best Nightclub by the local residents. Next up - Miami WMC 2003. Joe organized the "Lady Luck" St. Patrick's Day party featuring DJ Manolo, Paul Dailey, Joe Mama, Matt E Love, DJ Arsit, Michael Knyte, and Justin Johnson. Back in Boston saw Joe join the biggest weekly Clubnight in America, also known as 'Avaland' at Avalon/Axis in Boston. Combined with the power of the DJ team Groovefire, they created a night with a concentration on promoting the local house music scene. 'Homespun' gave up and coming DJ's an opportunity to spin alongside of the heavy hitters in the industry and garnering massive local attention as well.

This past year at WMC, Joe played several times including the Groovanauts party at Fairwinds, and Porterhouse, which turned out to be one of the most successful parties of conference. And who could forget the infamous Plastic Sex party that Joe put toegether, held at Tangerine which showcased a battle between Boston and New York DJ’s. The past few months have been keeping Joe busy, traveling between Boston and NYC on a consistent basis. He has made appearances at the Sullivan Room, Le Souk and Movida in NYC and coming home to Boston to play such venues as Rise, Vertigo, Gypsy Bar, Mantra and his new highly successful residency “Free 2 Be†Saturdays at Underbar.

EMJAE

Originally from Atlanta, Matt began his career DJ’ing private parties and warehouse events. Known for spinning a wide range of musical styles ranging from electro to disco, the sound of Emjae captured the attention of many local promoters. Within the year Matt held weekly residencies at clubs Tongue & Groove, Velvet Room, and Plush. He recently migrated North to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music and set aside his DJ career to focus mainly on his newly found love of production. Matt’s music soon found a home among Boston legends Steve Porter, Eli Wilkie. DJ Bons, Joe Mama, Ali Ajami and John Debo.

Much like his DJ sets, Johnson just couldn’t keep to making one style of music. Then along came Bons. The duo Bon Johnson was soon created with hopes to spread worldwide their unique blend of “electro infused funkâ€. Steve Porter recognized this group’s potential and invited Bons and Matt to perform for the upcoming Porterhouse tour. Bon Johnson has gotten support from top DJ’s Mark Farina, Chris Fortier, Desyn Masiello, and DJ Sneak, just to name a few.

Matt’s debut release, “Midnight Express E.P†on label, Release Grooves has already gotten the attention from Sasha, Digweed, Steve Porter, and Danny Howells. As Emjae, Matt is committed to bringing big room dance tunes that make you shake and remixes that bring you back. His sound could be described as retro, but his methods are very modern. Armed with only a laptop and a keyboard Emjae is about to erupt like a volcano on a bad day.
