I've decided to tell my parents of my sexual preference over X-mas dinner. I think they have inclinations or suspect something is different, but i've never told them before. I believe my mom will be understanding as she always is, but my Dad is going to flip. I just know he is. He's gonna disown me, i'm sure of it. Does anyone have any ideas of just how i might go about breaking the news to moms & pops?

please help

My advice is to NOT say anything over any holiday dinner.

Not because it's the wrong thing to do , but if you're not sure whether you will be accepted or not, I would avoid this holiday to spill the beans.

If they aren't immediately accepting, they will remember that day (x-mas) with bitterness, anger and resentment towards you for "ruining" their holiday.

Anger is always a selfish emotion. The issue of you and your sexuality will take a back seat to their anger.

They will be stuck in the selfish rage phase.

Of course your life is extremely important, but they will not see it that way..They will only be thinking of themselves..their pain, and their embarrassment.

Your feelings and needs will have faded to the background.

Tell them after the <A HREF="http://www.clubplanet.com/newyearseve/">new year</a> .

And when you tell them..be there to support them and bring them through the drama to the correct place of acceptance in their thinking.

It's never fair to just drop a bomb and watch the fallout. Especially on a holiday.

You need to be the wiser one to help them accept you. It's not just about acceptance, it's about coming together on common ground to find love and acceptance for eachother.

you..and them!

Wait until after the New Year.

goodluck
