SWELLS below the surface of the dance music industry, a saturation of otherwise unknown djs are constantly vying for recognition. the competition is undeniable, and often creates schisms amongst the very people who should be working together to keep the music moving forward. fully aware of this fact, mike swells emerged on the boston scene as a face in the crowd supporting house music nights throughout the city. after so many late nights in clubs, lounges, and other mischievous after-hours gatherings, swells eventually became a familiar fixture of the beantown crew. once he was sure that his commitment to his hometown’s edm scene, as well as the djs behind it, could not be questioned, he started asking his friends for deck time. before long, swells was regularly serving up 5 hour sets downstairs at rise, boston’s only after-hours nightclub. playing extended sessions to a musically discerning crowd has allowed him to develop a sound that encompasses many subgenres of proper dance music over the course of a night; sometimes spacey, often funky, always flowing deftly onward.www.mikeswells.comwww.myspace.com/mikeswellsFILTHYThere’s a new kid on the block. His name is David McNeary. And though his DJ career is still in its infancy, David has already achieved considerable success. As a resident of Boston’s famed afterhours club RISE, David dispenses his trademark brand of bouncy progressive house and trance weekly. As if that’s not enough, David has recently found himself behind the decks in venues as far away as Montreal Canada. He has played along side the likes of Danny Howells, John Graham (Quivver), Paolo Mojo, Gabriel & Dresden and Tiesto. and tirelessly fine tunes his sound with the so called “Club 1100†collective. And don’t be surprised to find David mixing records in the dance music department of the Virgin Records Megastore in Boston, where he works as a buyer and keeps a constant finger on the pulse of new music.
