Some people go to great lengths to get their groove on. In Miami lately, that has meant braving some random spurts of nasty violence -- specifically in the area of Northeast 11th Street, where the likes of Club Space, Nocturnal, Twilo and Studio A are located. While people aren't yet donning Gucci-designed bulletproof vests in the neighborhood, this summer, four separate shootings have occurred in the vicinity, leaving one man dead and nine others hospitalized. Well it is where the scene is going. With the suburbanization and condo-ization of South Beach, inevitably, a 2 AM closing time will be enforced, leaving the real nightlife to Downtown Miami.

Already, there are proposals on the board to expand the district a block or two west, to counter the inevitable round of investors and clubowners fleeing the ever-restrictive regulations that the Miami Beach government seemingly likes to put in place at random.

Nightlife is the golden goose of Miami Beach, but now that the condos and the chain stores have moved in and gotten settled, the nightlife industry isn't as important to Miami Beach as it once was.

Pioneers like Space, Goldrush, and as of late, Twilo, thought ahead and have entrenched themselves in the area. Like anywhere, there are problems, but as the City steps up enforcement and gradually improves the area, these will go away.
