THE RESIDENCE

HIVE [ Violence | Metalheadz ] - SF

Since the inception of the label, Hive’s musical output has grown ever more assertive and daring, personified most clearly by “Neo,†one of 2003’s great anthems. “Neo†has reached into virtually every corner of drum and bass, from dedicated ravers to disaffected breaks aficionados, binding fans of different stripes together in common cause. Hive has also been spending more time in the studio with collaborators, including Keaton of The Usual Suspects. The two of them were responsible “The Plague,†another massive anthem of 2003, released on Hardware. 2004 saw the release of their even more broadly appealing follow-up “Bring it On,†for Violence.

Tough, propulsive, forged out of both the traditional sampled aesthetic and leading sound designs of contemporary drum and bass, the sound of Hive today bears the imprint of an artist searching for new ways to reinterpret the music by his own lights. Neither a retrospective purist, nor a follower of fashion, Hive’s music, his DJing, and his label strike a steely, inspiring balance, hewing closely to a tight creative vision that has propelled him into the forefront of drum and bass wherever it thrives.

LOGISTICS [ Hospital | Liquid V ] - UK

After Exploding onto the scene with his first Hospital release "Replay" in March 2004, Logistics went full steam ahead. Next up was "Together" which can only be described as an anthem, smashing up dancefloors everywhere from Land's End to John O Groats, it was finally released not only on the "Future Sound Of Cambridge EP" but also in VIP form as part of the mighty "Spacejam" EP, which continues to sell - many moons after its initial release.

With a Logistics remix now becoming one of the hottest things in drum and bass it didn’t take long before producers came knocking… remixes included, one for US house crew Mood To Swing for Zinc's Bingo Label, a remix for Friction on Tru Playaz and don't forget his seminal remix of Leviticus's 90s classic "The Burial" for Liquid V.

Now in 2006 and established by IDJ as “Soulful D&B’s brightest young thing†Logistics is ready to unleash the 25 track monster debut, “Now More Than Everâ€, showcasing two sides to this young prodigy in one fantastic album, "Believe the hype", this is the drum and bass debut of 2006.

verse.jpg

VERSE [ Crunch | Renegade Hardware ] - UK

Verse joins a select crop of owners, an MC with a label as he works towards the first Crunch release. In between touring and travelling, Verse has found sufficient studio time to write alongside DKay, BCUK, Keaton, Bad Company and join the Fifth Element crew deep with Loxy & Ink. Postponed due to distribution issues that collective are far from buried we’re assured. Verse releases have rounded out across Renegade Hardware and Outbreak; he duly returns to productions for his personal ends, Crunch Recordings.

review of upcoming release - taken from D.O.A

LOGISTICS – “NOW MORE THAN EVER” 2XCD – HOSPITAL

There have been a load of albums coming in the last couple of years, but for some reason, Hospital snags a lot of the artists who are creating some of the most fondly awaited albums: Nu:Tone, Cyantific, and now Logistics, Nu:Tone’s brother. He’s been on a roll for a while, coming into prominence quickly with tunes like “Space Jam” and the massive “Together”, and apparently has been grinding out about 100+ tunes for his debut album, “Now, More Than Ever”. This opus will be dropped on vinyl as well as 2xCD, which is the true treat. Not only are you treated to heavily-rinsed tunes like “Inhale”, “The Divide” and the bouncy “Beatbox Master”, Logistics takes his style and morphs it over differing styles of DnB. Disc One (“Now”) jumps from licks like “City Life” that have a more sullen, driving vibe to them, while “Everything Is Illuminated”, which has a funky fresh feel to them. We also get to hear some of his own vocal work with “Machine”, and we get a treat in “Cascades of Colour”, which features the Ananda Project on a truly beautiful collaboration. Disc Two is entitled “More Than Ever”, and delves into the grittier side of his sound, ready for the bassbin tracks that are guaranteed d-floor danger. “Time To Give It Up” pairs a deep, woofer bustin’ bassline with some classic old school cut up bizness from DJ Fu. “Juno 6” has a subterranean flair to it, along with crazy percussive elements that bring a nice contrast to the track. There’s so much to mention on these two discs, but the result is still the same: quality, forward thinking DnB for 2006. Logistics brings back some of that “fast soul music” vibe, as well as takes it a few light-years ahead of the competition. You will be doing yourself an injustice by not grabbing the album when it hits your store; contender for one of the best of the year, no doubt.
