weyes Posted June 2 Report Share Posted June 2 giving someone a nickname can make it easier for one to get his/her attention in a crowd, as a lot of people have the same name and those can just blend into the background. a unique name can stand out and be more effective (and forget about calling your mom "mom!" in a crowd; how many times has that not yielded results till the third yell ?). it can also be a nice way to show you have been thinking of that person, as most people only give nicknames to those with whom they've grown (or are growing) close or think deserve a title of honor (i.e. sports stars) .tune in tomorrow.
