weyes
one does not need to excel in something to be an excellent judge of it.this brings to mind a pet peeve of mine the few times i watched auditions of american idol. while not a fan of simon cowell's lack of tact and way that he exaggerated how bad people sang (not everyone can be "the worst [you]'ve ever heard"), and even though i disagreed with him at times, as well, he was often met with an argument i feel is ridiculous: those who were rejected would yell back, "let's hear YOU sing!"this is not valid, as there is absolutely no link between how well someone sings and how well someone listens or can critique. as far as being a judge of technical merit, not everyone has a natural ability to understand every discipline/area of expertise in the world, and one does need to be educated about it, to some degree. but someone with arthritis can be a dance critic !tune in tomorrow.
