Mark Farina Returns to Milwaukee for Mushroom Jazz 6 Tour

Original Chicago downtempo legend G-Most lends support

MILWAUKEE—It’s been nearly three years since producer/DJ Mark Farina has taken Milwaukee audiences on a ride of trippy, downtempo grooves and funky house beats. Now, for the first time since May 2006, one of underground house music’s original innovators returns for a three-hour set in support of his latest series compilation, Mushroom Jazz 6. Co-sponsored by SmartBar Chicago and AmatoInside promotions, Farina takes the decks for a special, one-off event on Friday, April 18 at Moct (240 E. Pittsburgh). Original Chicago downtempo legend G-Most (New York) opens the show.

In releasing the sixth installment of his acclaimed Mushroom Jazz series, Farina melds his signature blend of funky, instrumental hip hop, downtempo, soul and blunted beats to create a fluid mix of grooves and drop-outs. For his upcoming Milwaukee performance, the producer/DJ throws down a three-hour set that slinks through the easy, organic vibes of his Mushroom Jazz repertoire before turning on the chuggy, dance floor groove that has come to define his style. From fade-out vocals to big, funky bass lines, Farina’s sets have become one of the most recognizable sounds in underground house.

Joining Farina for an opening performance is Chicago downtempo original, G-Most. A former cohort of Chicago’s legendary Red Nail Crew, G-Most spun his way up from the local roller rinks and record shops to produce several tracks with San Francisco-based Josh Michaels (aka DJ Iz). Before moving to New York in 2000, G-Most’s appeared on Farina’s inaugural Mushroom Jazz 1 compilation, crafting dub-inspired, downtempo beats that bump with breezy, melodic groove.

Milwaukee welcomes the return of Farina on Friday, April 18, with event host James Amato (SmartBar Chicago, Potty Mouth Music, AmatoInside) providing sound by Subversion and visuals VJ Brye. The event takes place at one of the Historic Third Ward’s most spacious party venues.

Advance tickets are currently available through HYPERLINK "http://www.smartbarchicago.com" www.smartbarchicago.com for $10, which ensures guaranteed and no-wait entry the night of the show.
