WYNWOOD ART DISTRICT’S SECOND SATURDAY

AUGUST 14 TH, 2004

7:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Celebrate the arrival of the Hormigas Culonas from Santander, Colombia at TransEAT/FoodCultureMuseum.Miami

Join us for delicious ants, music and beer from Colombia, as you travel through the Wynwood Art District on an authentic Columbian Chivoteca

HORMIGAS CULONAS / BIG BOTTOMED ANTS

An extremely rare delicacy, these ants were harvested in the Colombian Amazon by the Guane Indians between March and June during the short rain season.

The ants are toasted in a mud pot over an open fire. The Guane Indians believe that these ants have youth giving and aphrodisiac properties. They are often served as fertility-giving marriage food during nuptial ceremonies.

TransEAT/FoodCultureMuseum.Miami will offer these ceremonial foods in the context of a Columbian cultural celebration which also futures live Vallenato and Cumbia music along with traditional Chiva transportation linking guest to the other gallery and studio openings in Miami’s most exciting arts district.

This event is open to the public and presented with the support of Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs with the assistance of the City of Miami Wynwood NET,
