whats missing? people who will actually come out on a regular basis and SUPPORT the scene. everyone here expects things for free and then complains when the venues don't have the capital to bring in talent or put on regular events. People need to stop complaining and go out and support whats brought to you. If all of you supported on a regular basis maybe clubs wouldn't be so gun shy to try new talent or to continue bringing in the dj's we all love. At the rate we're heading now though miami will be all hip hop and commercial in no time and the only one to blame is the patrons... Who can blame a venue owner for putting on hip hop or commercially themed nights when those are the people that pay admission, buy drinks or even bottles, and actually dance all night and have fun instead of trainspot or complain.... just my 2 cents.. :o

Very well said. What people who are from this area don't realize is how spoiled they are and how much they take the scene here for granted. Miami is one of the more liberal places in the United States. I came from a city who's scene struggled constantly becuz of the limits that the law imposed on the scene. In Seattle, it's a pain to open up a new club. You'd have better luck opening up a gun shop that sold automatic weapons than a night club. And the hours that you could drink alcohol were limited and you couldn't drink between the hours of 2am until 6am so it limited the afterhours scene which I think is the strongest component of the EDM scene. An afterhours scene can make or break the scene in a city and Miami is one of only a few places that has tons of stuff going on for afterhours where as a city like Seattle who has just as many people (population wise) only has 1 or 2 options afterhours and with no sales of alcohol until 6am.....

So Miami peepz what R' you complaining about?

And the point that Mr Cowan brought up about Hip Hop taking over is very true. Hip Hop brings money into clubs faster than a a building house music (EDM) event can bring in and club owners want to see those $$$$$$. Most of them can really give a crap what music is playing in their club so long $$$ is being made. So yeah, go out and try to support your local EDM scene as much as humanly and financially possible...Other wise we'll all be dancing to O.P.P b4 you know it....

I have seen more support than ever in recent days !, Consider that Amika, Crobar, Space Mansion, Prive, State, envy have nights with great turn outs weekly ... of which 3 clubs are fairly large... I think we're doing pretty well !!!! and of course blue that still hangs tight !

Up here in Gainesville the scene is pretty much dead, but a lot of that has to do with our clubs closing early. At least you guys can stil party all night even if its not a 'RAVE' (I hate that word by the way)

ps. first post, hello Miami

I go out rarely and when I do, i pay for nothing...

just the way things are for a club legend like my self..

hey jon, how you doing? hospital? you ok? trance accident??

I don't know you so you aren't that much of a Legend... I know just about everyone. I've been around for over 10 yrs in the industry. Stop bragging... no one cares

maybe that just goes to show you, your status is far behind mine if you don't know me...

I know everyone that is important!!!!

That is why I like parties like Amika on Fridays, the parties lately at Space on Saturdays, and crobar Saturdays. The crowd is musically aware, yes, but in the end, they are out for the good time. Bottles are being purchased, ass is to be had, and getting drunk is considered normal social discourse. I'd like to say it is a hip-hop party with house music.

Agreed, very well said. I also agree with one point Roland makes, though... Any time I go into a club, it's very rare for me to have left without spending at least $100 at the bar. With that in mind, I hate paying cover charge. Hate paying cover charge. I'm gonna spend the money anyway, just let me spend it on drinks for fuck's sake.

Very true. Are we acquiring the next generation of EDMers, or is all the new blood going to hip hopor something?

I would have to say that CJ peeps are an exception to the Miami Rule.. People here don't really support shit. That is unless you have the biggest most well known name, or in most cases a 5+ deep lineup of big timers to draw a crowd. Keeping a "scene" alive doesn't mean just going to the biggest and baddest venues; and it never has.

Words of wisdom there Mr Cowan.

Electronic music culture used to be united around having fun for a night. Now the fun part has been beaten out of us because we had to crack down so hard on ravers, and there is nothing left but people who are into other things. Who's spinning tonight, how famous is he, who owns the club he's spinning in, what sound system does this or that club have, it's all peripheral but it's all that's left to obsess over now that carefree glow-stick nights are illegal.

Hip hoppers still get crunk and sing songs about how much fun it is to go out on a Saturday night. They still shake that booty no matter what DJ is on. They still dress up all bling and drive around town acting like idiots on the weekends because that's what party people do for fun on weekends. They still buy bottles to try to impress some tail because having fun is what you do when you go out. Our culture has forgotten that.

Werd. It should be all about the fun. 8)

Hey Jon, although I agree with what you say...how often do you go out if you arent DJing or supporting the person that you brought to the venue? Most people on this board go out on a regular basis and support the locals as well as the imported talent.

I agree that I haven't been out much. I make it out when I can but for the past 4 months I've been dealing with some serious stomach issues if you really must know. I've had 4 catscans is the past 3 months and hospitalized twice.. there is a chance I may need to have a part of my colon removed but I will know later this week when the results of the tests come in that I had on friday. I haven't made it out because I've basically been feeling rather ill and plus I haven't been able to or felt like drinking or being out at all. I will also agree that for the past yr I was tied up with Nerve and never made it to many other events which I am sorry about... I do get out when I can and trust me, as I get back to normal you will all see me on a regular basis... my comments were not directed at this board.. this is a board of music followers and of course we love the music but unfortunately we're the minority. Its a shame but thats the facts... it used to be about fun house music.. happy people... If only we could get the majority of people to understand and enjoy....

What is missing from the scene today is something fresh and new and exciting. People performing their own productions instead of the same shit at different clubs around town. Nothing is more boring then hearing the same track at Space, Crobar, Mansion, or any clubs.
