Tourists are generally shot on sight.

hahaha good comment there.....

I love this city it has allowed me to be more open minded and accepting of other peoples opinions, allowed me to party all my liver can take, and still have goals, and be extremely extravagant which is cool if you do not want to deal with your immaturities.... plus any ambulance is trained well enough to pump your stomach on site if you are too intoxicated on alcohol..... that's a plus.... If I lived in london, kentucky and there is a London in Kentucky... I would probably be dead or in jail for a lot of reasons.

Disclaimer: I am not from London, kentucky... I am a colombian living in Coral Gables, Cocoplum to be exact is nice and security knows I live in the community so it is cool, not being harrassed.

I live in Coconut Grove and love it, its 10 min from the beach less to downtown. It has the feeling of its own little city within Miami, there are still places to walk to, restaurants, shops... You should check it out, especially if you want to work at the Ritz which theres one in the grove or the mandarin is about 5 min away and you wont have to deal with traffic in the morning.

I was looking at that area. There is also a Four Seasons in the immediate vicinity if I am not mistaken.

yeah, theres a four seasons along with some other hotels

It depends on what you're expectations and goals are. For me, being a DJ and living on the beach is fuckin' awesome. Everything, almost, is within walking distance, which I love. Rent is not cheap, but you pay for the convenience of being in the center of all the action, including walking distance to the ocean. ;D

Agreed for sure...but it's been my experience that South Beach will eat you alive if you allow it- depends on how much willpower you have...what kind of job you have etc. I could/did party every single night- so if you get caught up in then it really fucks up your priorities, etc. But i suppose that's big cities everywhere.

Personal opinion tho if you're gonna do it do it right- live in SOBE..i think living 1 hr away is such a pain in the ass then if you go out in sobe it's hard to get fucked up and drive home etc and if you don't know anyone moving here at least 1st that wouldn't work out so hot.

That is sound advice, and believe me, I know all about that. I live where my screenname says I live, and there is no bigger den of debauchery than Vegas. If you think you have a lot to divert your attention in Miami, "you ain't seen nuthin". Try adding casinos and 24/7 booze (everywhere), a large number of strip clubs, hookers in the phone book, etc. to what you have there in Miami, and then imagine what that is like. Wherever I move to, it will be like turning the volume down, trust me. Thanks for the advice though.

IF you move to Miami or dade, you'll move back to vegas within a year...

trust me.. Miami= overrated. there is only 2 clubs!!!!!!!!

just fucking 2!!!!!!!!!!!!

as far as crime, it's a war zone down there, lead by people who don't respect american. They are here on a stop over until someone fixes thier own country...

and if you move to Fort Lauderdale or Boca, you'll be seeing grannies and grandpas driving on the wrong side of the road, all the time.....and the club scene is a huge frat party ...thats something to look forward to ....LOL

Crime rate in Miami in general is pretty high. It all depends where you live. Obviously if you live in one of the nicer more secure neighborhoods you aren't going to have a problem. In the grove I live in a gated community, I park my car inside and people can only get in when you buzz them in. At the same time I have no problem walking my dog by myself at night around the neighborhood.

Four Season Hotel is in Brickell area of Miami, on 5 min from the grove. It's the tallest building in Miami right now.

i thought aqualina in sunny isles/north miami beach was one of the tallest as well? maybe the highest condo...it has 56 floors not counting the parking, lobby, restaurants, ect...also 80% sold out w/ final construction to be set for late spring/summer '05

man you saying that reminds me of what happened yesterdayin pembroke pines.

A couple got hit by a 88 year old lady who by mistake went on reverse and smashed into them. Running over the couple....the couple is in critical condition all due to this 88 year old lady.

Dam Old People.

And thats all you will find in Broward and West Palm Beach especially Boca...too many old people to be around.

old grannies on the wrong side of the road backing up instead of going forward, or people with no insurance who cant read "stop" with their bumper barely taped on?

its really a toss up.

This reminds me, when I was like 13 or something my friends grandmother came to pick us up from the movies and as she pulled onto a main road she was driving on the wrong side. The two of us were yelling and she had no idea she was doing something wrong. Talk about scary, I think there should be a law that once you qualify to be a senior citizen you should have to take your driving test over.

I rather have the guy without Insurance who can drive....then the Granny who is blind and doesn't put her signal when turning or cant even see 10 feet away, whos a crash waiting to happen at any moment.

I'll choose the guy with the taped up bumper and no insurance anytime.

Welll my boss is at a convention today so i am in a posting frenzy.

I live in North Bay Village (on the 79th causeway). I love it there, i am 15 min from sobe, 15 min from downtown, 15 min from Aventura. I pay $950 for a large 1 bedroom and i have a sick view. You guys in sobe got really lucky with that kinda rent cause its pretty much unheard of to get anything under $900 that is halfway decent on the beach. I lived in Sobe for the first yr i moved down from NY. If i had the choice i probably would still be there due to the fact that my office is on Lincoln Rd, but i feel like my neighbors are more normal and it definitely is much safer.

As far as Miami in general..i moved here because i LOVED it. Everyone told me that as a NY'er iu would be back in 6 months. Here is what i have found...

1)Miami is very aesthetically pleasing. Everything looks pretty, surrounded by water, and it is just very positive for the daily well being. It's totally awesome that any evening you can go and have dinner at the beach or feel like yoru on vacation every weekend.

2)Work down here sucks. The cost of living is high and unless you are in real estate/mortgages/investing, it is hard to make a good living. People are either extremely wealthy or just making ends meet. If you are not bilingual many big cooperations (the few that do exist down here) will not higher you. It takes forever for people to make decisions and everyone is cheap. You can be passionate and push and push but things just happen in their own time here and it can be frustrating.

3)You will NOT find a good relationship/partner here that has any substance unless you are from Florida originally. I find that i am constantly taken as a joke.

It is one of the hardest cities to meet someone on that level..but then again i think if your relationship can survive Miami you are good anywhere.

4)Life is different. The more i am here the more i realize that Sobe is pretty much a fantasy land. It's a nice experience and i love the environment, the energy, the vibe, but i do not think it is the place to be forever.I miss the culture up North, the variety. Everything down here is a mini version of a South American country. I personally love the latin culture and latin men lol..so it works, but for others i know it can be quite frustrating.

6)In conclusion, i think that anyone can be happy wherever they are, its just about making the best of it. You have many choices here and can choose your niche, its just a buit harder to hold on to something that seems to lack substance often. Am i making ANY sense?

I'm having a philosophical day it seems. :)

I haven't read any of this thread, but I can tell you that I don't live in Miami however I work in Miami (west).

People have different opinions on everything. I for one, enjoy living in Hollywood, which is 10 minutes south of Ft.Lauderdale and like 20 minutes north of Miami. I'm a broward kinda gal. My best friend, on the other hand, lives right in South Beach.. which is convenient for him as he doesn't have a car. Having a car in SoBe sucks as parking is expensive.

I don't know much about downtown Miami, but I do know some peeps that can afford to live in the nice high rise buildings, and as far as i know, they like it.

some of your points made are the reason why i moved to New York city. yes i am freezing my *** now but to be honest, i am much more happy in every sense of the word here & was ready for the rat race and tired of the beach-state-of-mind ....

plus side for me is a lot more money & a great apartment in the W Village

the funny thing is, lots of people always ask me how i lived in Miami for as long as i did, and i think it is just whatever state of mind you're in and what suits you at a specific age............i could still do it but am just used to the comfort of a different lifestyle now (no driving, good restaurants, challenging job, travelling, etc).
