If you download music, games, or visit those sites, or porn sites, or many entertainment sites, you have Spyware and Adware on your drives that you don't know about. I run Aw-Watch and Spy Cleaner Version 8.0, and Norton Anti-Virus, ever few days and it's amazing how much of that crap gets downloaded without my knowledge. I even have 2 firewalls and it still gets through. But according to that article, new laws are going to change things and make it harder for them to infest our computers with that spy stuff, and easier for us to identify it and delete it.

And that is all that I wanted to say about that. This had been a Public Service reminder. Live long and prosper.

another nice tool thati use is http://www.ccleaner.com/

low on resources which is nice

also, mircosoft's anit-spyware is not bad. have been running the beta for time now and has been doing a nice job.

using firefox as my default browser has made a huge difference. the majority of adware/spyware is trageted towards IE. make the cange and enjoy a safer surf

I have Firefox installed but I don't use it. I really should because I know that IE is like a condom with pin holes for everything to get through.

A couple of simple ways to not get spy/ad ware on your computer...

1. Don't use IE as your main browser....Since IE is so integrated into the OS, it has many, many 'backdoors' to install things onto your computer without your knowledge. Use Firefox or my personal favorite, Opera. This will stop 95% of the Spy/Ad ware out there...

2. If you do use IE, run it under a different account. By default, any account in Windows in an Local Administrator to your computer (meaning it has full access and rights to install, modify or change things). This ususally doesn't pose a problem, but if you run IE under another account that has less privledges, the spy/ad ware will not be able to be installed!

3. Good AV....I use Symantec 10 Corporate AV...it catches a TON of things on my box. Also, use a good Spy/Ad ware program....A combination of Spybot and Spy Sweeper works great for me...I have also run the MS Spyware Beta and that is pretty good too...

But the main thing is the first two....If you only surf with IE on the sites that specifically need it (Expedia is one of them), then you will escape from 95% of the spyware/adware out there.
