Ecstasy can and does kill ... but not always. Now, an absolutely lethal drug is being sold as ecstasy in clubs across the globe. Instead of being a drug that could kill them, this substance is like a certain death-pill for clubbers. Paramethoxyamphetamine (otherwise known as PMA) is being blended with ecstasy to create pills that are visually indistinguishable from ecstasy tablets. It is believed that the drug originated in illegal laboratories in Germany and Denmark. Toxicology reports have named PMA as the fatal factor in six ecstasy related deaths in the US recently, and it is believed to be hitting dance floors worldwide. Dealers and distributors may be unaware that they are putting a substantially more lethal drug than ecstasy into dance floor circulation. clubbed has some facts about the drug. If you are an ecstasy user, this information could be absolutely vital to your safety: 1. The pills are reported as looking and tasting identical to the ‘Mitsubishi’ logo ecstasy pills. They are white, aspirin sized and display a three diamond shape, which forms the Mitsubishi logo. 2. PMA is so difficult to detect that laboratory tests have, in some cases, failed to recognize it.3. Initially, the effects of the pill are similar to ecstasy … increased energy/ visual enhancement/euphoria: a user will initially be unaware that they have ingested a lethal substance.4. Initial negative effects include muscle spasms, fever, racing pulse, breathing difficulty, convulsions, nausea and vomiting.5. The onset of fatal symptoms: PMA raises the body temperature to as high as 108 degrees, causing the central nervous system to burn itself into disintegration. The first sign of the drug’s fatal potential is an extremely high temperature. Within an hour, stupor has usually set in and the victim’s brain and internal organs will be experiencing widespread bleeding. 6. Only 50 mg of PMA can be fatal. A 'usual' dose of MDMA (the substance to be found in Ecstasy) can go up to 160mg.7. Medical attention is in no way guaranteed to save the victim. 8.
