Guest vegasguy25
They are also opening in LA, on Hollywood Blvd. a short walk from Avalon. They were having trouble obtaining a cabaret license, but I am hearing that has been resolved and plans are drawn up.

Guest vegasguy25
It just proves why Vegas is the best city in the U.S. . . . Well, one of them anyway. The dynamics of our club scene here are unlike what you will find in any other city, anywhere. Here, you have giant casino corporations who are willing to provide real estate and cash to open spectacular clubs. They have the cabaret licenses, the 24 hour liquor licenses, and thousands of people on property everyday. Our club scene is celebrated here in Las Vegas, which is something you don't really see anywhere else. There aren't too many places where you'll see venues like Jet, Tao and Pure, which cost anywhere from $15-25 million to build, and are making money hand over fist. In other cities, clubs that cost far less to build and operate are losing money. It wasn't always like that here, but as soon as the casinos realized how much money could be made from these places, it was off to the races. What we're missing here is a real house scene though. Well, maybe not missing, but it is still basically in its infancy, and nowhere near on the level of what you see in cities like NY, LA, SF, Chicago and Miami. Las Vegas is much smaller than those cities though (a great deal smaller than a couple of them), so we're still very much in the growth stage. I wish Crobar the best of luck here in Las Vegas, and I very much want them to succeed. Hopefully they bring something to the table that is not already here. Guest vegasguy25
Will it be in a casino or a standalone operation like ICE?It will be inside the NY-NY hotel. They're remodeling the space that is currently housing the Cabaret Theater. It's too early to know the details, such as how large the venue will be, what sound system they'll install, etc.

(coming soon)Buenos Aires, Argentina - Opening 3/10Rumors of Crobar's arrival here began floating around back in 2000, shortly after Mandalay Bay opened in '99, which gives you an idea of how long Vegas has been on Crobar's radar. I applaud them for having the patience to properly evaluate the market as it began to grow up, and wait for the right deal to present itself. Guest pod
I'm guessing either Steve Dash or a Phazon system if crobar's previous installs are any indication...I went to Vegas twice last year, and it struck me as having a very successful, although commercial, club industry. The only "DJ-oriented" venue I saw was ICE.

Thats what makes bread overthere, Dj Oreinted events dont make no money overthere usually ICE will bring in some Dj's like Donald Glaude, Sandra Collins, Dj Dan, ect. But I see Crobar slowly will blend in like the rest of the clubs in Vegas by having celebrity oriented parties with Open formated music. Guest vegasguy25
Ice has hosted the DJs mentioned above, but they have also played host to Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, Steve Lawler, Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Deep Dish, Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, Max Graham and the list goes on...The other venues in town concentrate pretty much solely on making money, and they are very, very good at it. B-SIDE1414779017
I think Rain at the Palms brings in DJs sometimes too?glad you corrected yourself when I played there ICE was first then RAIN, then RA when it came to this matter.... but on the underground tip 7 & Drai's did pretty well representing true club culture and bookings...I'm still wondering if I sould consider JET in this category?any comments Vegasguy? Guest vegasguy25
I'm still wondering if I sould consider JET in this category?any comments Vegasguy? No, Jet is not in the category of Ice, but more in line with Pure, Tao, Body English, etc. in the sense that it is pretty commercial. These venues are spectacular, but generally play hip hop/mashups in the main rooms. Pure's terrace and one of the side rooms at Jet feature house though. As for Tao, they have a side room with a DJ playing house, but it really is a slap in the face to house music. Tao has house just to say that they have it; they clearly don't give a shit about it. Jet has a cozy little room with house, although it's more like a lounge really, adjacent to what I think is a great main room. Pure goes the extra mile, devoting the best part of their club, a second floor terrace with an end-to-end view of the Strip, to house music. Guest pod
Last gig I had in Vegas they put me up at Caesars, and hearing decent (yet "old" by Miami standards) music outside was a bit misleading. I went into Pure expecting something similar, but the indoors was just as you said, very commerical. Outside wasn't bad, and the view was real nice. The casino clubs seem to be cash cows, due to their location, you can't have DJ-oriented nights there. The impression I got was that your average Vegas tourist was from the Midwest and realistically only wanted a Top-40 style party anyway. Guest vegasguy25
A good portion of the crowd are from places that are generally not at the forefront of electronic music culture, although a lot of them come from California, which is at the forefront. You're right about the casino clubs being cash cows, which is why every casino is opening at least one. Hopefully Crobar will buck the trend of casino clubs not being DJ focused. Empire Ballroom, which is on the Strip but not in a casino, also plays electronic music at their wildly popular afterhours Late Night Empire. The clubs are generally going to stick with what bring bodies through the door. Pure does 4,000 person Saturdays on a fairly regular basis, so clearly what they are doing is working.
