Guest endymion
Windows ME was the last of the 16-bit Windows line. It's really MS-DOS, with a windowing interface built on top of it. The first of its kind was Windows 95, then Windows 98, the last of that breed was ME.Windows 2000 and Windows XP are true 32-bit systems that are much more reliable and efficient, and they use a more sophisticated driver model that will result in less flaky hardware, especially on laptops. What you really want is a Mac. OSX is worlds beyond XP. It's worlds beyond Vista already, before Vista has even been released. Macs are straight out of science fiction. Guest pod
Hell will freeze over when I say this, but I was gonna suggest an OS X machine for Bling-Blong. However, knowing he's a little strapped after the move, I was merely suggesting a changeover to XP as something that is easy to do. XP is (compared to their earlier releases) the best OS MS has.Like I said earlier, no matter what you have, you'll need a router. It's a necessity. With the router I linked to you, you can plug up to 4 wired devices and use up to 253 wireless devices with it. Best advice I can tell you is to let Comcast do the installation, grab all the manuals and paperwork from them, and let a local geek set everything up. Guest pod
Nope. Use the link I provided earlier to Circuit City. You can get the router for $50.You need the router to connect multiple devices to your cable modem connection.
Bling
u mean like if i want to use my xbox and pc at same time?if i dont then i dont really need one thats the only other equipment i use that would use the cable line or do u mean i need the router to have my tv and pc connected ? at once
Guest pod
The router is only for computing devices. You can use your PC and TV at the same time without it. However, you should get the router anyways. Plugging and unplugging your cable connection to switch between your PC and Xbox could cause complications. Trust me, you want the router. Bling
talked to them they said i need a router so i can have my second pc in other room work on same connectionthey said it will work on ME but its not supported so if it doesnt work i cant call them they only support xp they said microshit doesnt even support ME and even if u call them they only help u with XP issues.crappppppppppppppppppppill wait till the new OS comes out till i get my pc
Guest pod
I'll side with TJ on this. Just get a Mac Mini for $500, since you seem to game exclusively on consoles now.The nice thing about having a router, is that it manages your connection essentially, so any connection issues usually can be solved by turning the cable modem and router off and on. Guest swirlundergrounder
ok how does cable work? there is only one cable jack in each room how do u connect the pc to it if the tv is connected to that jackalso i called and the idiot said that it wont work on ME which is all i have then called back and they said it does work on MEim confusedno clue about cable internet at all You can have one cable outlet in your house and have cable TV and Internet in every room..If all your TV's ahd a tivo hooked up to it you can watch TV via a wireless signal. But for your purposes, just run one cable line to a splitter that splites the signal. One line go's to the TV another go's to the cable modem. Then hook up a wireless router to it to have your computers on the Internet. Guest macboy
ck this info out on newsgroupsis this how it is with bellsouth not sure cuz i d/l way more than 2gb a monththat seems very little if u ask me---------------------------------------------------Is there a monthly quota on my newsgroup account and what happens if I exceed this limit? The monthly limit on newsgroup downloads provided by Comcast is 2 gigabytes. If you reach your download limit while you have a download in progress, we will allow you to finish your session, rather than interrupting your download. The surplus bytes downloaded are merely charged to the following period. If you reach or go over the 2 gigabyte monthly limit you will be unable to download additional content until your usage is reset, which happens on the 25th of each month.Yes, my parents have comcast in nj and it's a 2gb limit. Just get an account with a commercial usenet service like giganews. It's worth the money.

Guest jamu
Bling, I run a comcast 8MB line. Sickest thing ever. Bellsouth sucks. Their best line is an 6 MB line which is still more expensive then the 8MB line for comcast. Plus I have only had 3 days worth of down time in 6 years at my house (not including the hurricane). I think the numbers speak for themselves.
Guest coach
Wow, I can't believe this has gone on for 3 pages.Bling, you are making WAY WAY too big a deal over this. Here is how it works. You call the cable company. They send a couple guys with crack over to your house to tromp mud everywhere and hook up a bunch of lines. They put in your modem and EVERYTHING YOU NEED. All you do is hook ONE cable from your modem to your computer. That's it. If you have multiple computers, you run said cable to your router, and then run as many cables from your router as you have computers. Could not be simpler. As far as changing to a Mac, puh-fucking-lease! Why the hell would you guys suggest that? All he wants to do is get internet access, not edit professional porn vids. Bling, if you are used to a PC where you can actually find your files and get it to do what you want, do NOT switch to a Mac. They may be idiot-proof, but by idiot-proofing them, they have also genius-proofed them. If you compare a PC and a Mac OF THE SAME PRICE, their quality and stability is nearly the same. The scam that the Maccies run on everyone when they claim that their machines are so much more stable and reliable is that they are also SO much more expensive!!! And there is NO reason for you to have to learn a whole new OS. I use both computers at work, and the Mac desktop has WAY more problems than my Toshiba laptops. I have even used G5s before, and those things are just crash-monsters.The deal is this, use what you know. Yes, MS and PCs are POS, but Mac is no better. You get what you pay for in both.
