Dear Adam,

I'm still not quite sure what your angle is? But now that you have successfully insulted and alienated 99.999% of the people you know, what's next?

the angle is alot of people abuse the communications tool - whereas many people are actually pretty respectful and tactful of the site...honestly i doubt i offended that many people, i bet more people will be amused

besides -email in the business sector is just as bad and just as abused, and if i were writing an article for a business publication and badmouthed people abusing that system, im sure i'd catch flak for it too

there's just a right and wrong way to do things (imo) and one of the best parts of being a writer is voicing your viewpoints

what's next ? make more art & writing ...

besides - i write mainly for the .001% ;)

.oo1% gotcha!

It's not offensive but when you start telling your best friend about all of the fat people you incounter at work, they might start to wonder what you think about them...

what I mean is that everyone has a different 'perception" or "opinion" of online etiquette or social board acceptance. Even those who spam your bulletin board 12 times a day for the same event. it's kinda like tv... if you don't like it....turn it off.

Everyone has different tolerance levels and I've noticed that those whose levels are low...tend to live miserable lives trying to pick up after everyone.

just sayin!

While I really agree with most of your column, I do not buy this part:

Many artists are finding it an excellent resource to find new ears for their music to reach and countless promoters are successfully leveraging it as a tool to spread the good word about their events.

Also, change your picture. You look 15.

Very true

But sometimes people are easily offended

Look at the comments below the article, as an example

Overly sensitive IMO

Man up people … if you don’t like what some said/wrote … not like it’s the end of the world

Its one persons opinion …

those comments are completely uncalled for

Just cause you don’t like what some one wrote in an online article, does that mean you should resort to name calling?

You didn’t offend me at all. I could care less because I am not one of those people who send out a message telling some big named DJ thanx for the ADD.... My Myspace account is very simple and to the point. My top 8 is a collection of local talent who I know and can call on the phone if necessary because I have their cell numbers. It’s not an Ibiza line-up even though I have met a couple of them partying around.

Like anything else people abuse anything they can get their hands on; drugs, money, sex, porn, eating, booze, internet and e-mail spam… I can go on and on and why didn’t you expect it to not happen to Myspace

Personally, some of the points you touched upon are no different than critizing personality traits, most of which are natural. what's ok with you might be annoying to me, such as the fact that your music plays on your page whether I load it up or not. you think your page is streamlined...I think it's kinda boring...I think also that my page is a bit much but not nealy as bad as some---just my opinion, not fact. However, I do appreciate ettiquite, & the things you said about spamming or ADD thank yous promoting their music was totally on point.

my main beef with mYspace is you can't hide when you've don't feel a connection with someone, or you've had enough, or perhaps you're just too busy to keep up the communication (hello!), and you block them, erase them or don't respond. Then they call you out on it...mind you, if they do that, you have full license to be brutally honest, if you can. I'm a nice person, I have trouble with that sometimes--and hate to be cornered like that. it's happened a few times, ppl get upset with me cuz I don't talk to them, or take the time to read their blog, or whatever.

after that I write them off, but damn....ppl can be annoying in that respect. It's like they don't have a clue that maybe you're either too busy or not feelin' it, get offended and make you feel like an A-hole.

I had one (manic depressive btw) friend of a friend that I personally never saw anything, but heard enough to try to distance myself. I blocked him not seeing at the time I could just delete it, and he cornered me at a party to find out why....WHACK.

the .oo1% that don't use myspace, Eric, Jon...etc...JOIN PLEEZ!

^_^ chrissy likes having all her favorite peeps in one place. =))))

thats exactly my point

if you just read the comments with all the going ballistic and using foul language

would make you think that the article was a personal vendetta

when infact it wasnt

One is by Adam and one is by someone who doesn't count, so that makes 3. My point being that there really aren't that many people who are getting all offended by this, despite the way the comments in this thread make it seem.

but also my response was also according to what swank said earlier

But now that you have successfully insulted and alienated 99.999% of the people you know, what's next?
