Question about HD DVD players....POD you might be able to answer this one.

I have a Sony DVD player (a Sony dvp ns71hp) that can upscale to 720 and 1080i. It has an HDMI output.

Can I play HD DVD's in the player and get the same results as I would if I had an 'HD DVD' player???

Or are HD DVDs not compatible with this player?

Not compatible. HD DVDs use a blue laser.

you need a HD-DVD player to play HD-DVD's

you need a BLU-RAY player to play BLUR-RAY dvd's

both of these players also upscale regualar dvd's.

If you are planing on getting a standalone i would get a toshiba HD-DVD player off amazon.com for like $240 shipped that includes like 7 free hd-dvd movies. or wait a lil bit.. rumor has it hd-dvd players will be $200- soon

If you have a xbox360 you can get the HD-DVD add-on accessory for $180 w/ 6 hd-dvd movies

upscaling is cool.. it looks a bit better than normal dvd's.. though it will never look or sound as good as a native HD movie..

Depends on the upscaling technique used. Sometimes the display does it better than the player.
