They mean Miami too, since they cite "market driven nightlife" and "bars close whenever".

Miami (Beach) bars close at 5.

Funny how they just slapped a generic crowd photo in the article.

considering the vast majority of the country closes bars @ 2, this is pretty much "whenever"

We could debate semantics all day. Maxim does know about Downtown though, I sold a photo to them last year for a Space-specific article. Maxim, you still owe me a copy of the magazine! :)

This is why Miami needs Nightlife... Without it... what would be the point of tourists coming here? Sure, you have the beach.. but the whole state of Florida has the beach. I would think that the local government would treat nightclubs a little bit better than they do. They need to treat them like the local govnt in Las Vegas does wit the casinos.

To be honest, I can't think of any other reason to visit here other than the nightclubs.

Art? New York, LA have us beat hands down.

Theatre? Come on.

Beaches? They're nice, sure, but there's nicer ones in the Caribbean where you can vacation cheaper.

The main attraction here is the nightlife. Miami has a long way to go if they want people to come here for things other than the clubs.

funny my copy was in the mail today. for years i have felt this mag is out of my demographic but i get it cuz i get a bunch of comped magazines through amex. it was either maxim or another dull business mag.

first off eva mendes is on the cover. hey now, hey now, i mean heeeeyy noooooww

saw the headline and skipped right to the page thought Miami should be at the top and was surprised they picked it tops. thought THEY would pick Vegas. good for miami.

Certainly bucks the trend. Maxim and it's ilk (what the English call "lads' magazines") tend to always vote Vegas in as tops because of the whole mystique of the town.

Now, I've been there a few times, and I've had fun, but unless you gamble, the whole mystique wears pretty thin after awhile. If you're a music-head, it's truly a desert, even friends of mine out there who DJ are pretty despondent. It's quite the show and worth visiting, but party-wise, I'll stay here instead :).

and yet many dickheads try to cripple it by threatning to have earlier closing times (M Beach)

nightclubs are a bigtime foundation for attracting out of towners. even the mangos and Clevelanders of the world draw the Ohio midwest cattle.

love the fact where you can select the timeframe in which you wanna party only over seas can you do that. personally for me i love sunrise/patio sets. the music and the vibe is unmatched

Agreed. I've been accused in the past of being a crackhead, but what it really comes down to I just have a different party timeframe. Saturdays, for example, I tend to go out around 3, and stay till the cows come home, since it's fun to see a bit of some mainroom action, and then watch the transition from night to morning.

We're fortunate here in South Florida to have two zones which permit "market driven nightlife" regulations.

i lived there for two years and I didnt like living there... Sure there are a million things to do as far as nightlife but it is all tourist shit.. Open format... or Promo Only type dance music that you would hear on XM BPM or Sirius The Beat radio stations.

Yeah, the times I've been there, it was horrid in terms of music. I had fun at Tao, since there was drinking galore, and the open format guy there was actually decent, he undoubtedly had a musical background. I had fun at ICE too, which was the only decent dance-dedicated club, but I gather that went to shit when the Godskitchen people left, and the club closed soon after.

The one interesting thing though is wherever I went, the drinks were bigger than a comparably priced-drink in Miami. This girl I know took me to Rain, and even though she had the hookup with a bartender, I asked him if these drink sizes were the norm, and it was.

Maxim definatley picked the right canditate for this! I have lived here all my life, and the ONLY complaint I have about this city (i'm sure all of you agree) is traffic! Other than that, there are not a lot of places in this country where its 5:00 am theres "something to do." The music is excellent, weather, culture, and diversity. I would love to live here as long as I possibly can, however seeing as how the real estate market in Miami is overwhelmingly expensive, we'll see what my wallet looks like in a couple of years :D
