What was the last year and venue it took place? I'm just curious...

I think it's a bit overzealous to call someone or something lame without inquiring about it first. I've been down here for 5 years now and haven't heard of it. And it's not too far fetched for someone to conceive on their own. Is every promoter supposed to canvas the local population of "club legends" to determine if the name of their new party is acceptable?

I would urge you to be more constructive rather than critical. Just sayin...

Well, Jon's been here all his life, and I recently crossed the decade mark, and I've heard of and went to it, when I was just a neophyte.

Home Cookin' was a legendary party at Groove Jet way back when. Like one of those 'you had to have been there' parties. Mark Leventhal on the decks, Shelly Novak, BBQ, the works. Wasn't a music party or anything, but one of those sort of events that reminded people not to take life so seriously. I would say the extremely rough equivalent would be Back Door Bamby, but BDB didn't serve food. And I'm sure you went to Bamby a few times outside of the occasional guest DJ set.

lets see.... home cookin began in the 90's at the legendary groovejet for nearly 10 yrs. it was every tuesday and featured mark leventhal and radamus with elaine lancaster and shelly novak on the grill in the back. it was then at opium garden and lasted there for 2 years before it moved back to rain. it was a successful tuesday night at rain up until about a yr ago. it was their only solidly profitable night. it was promoted by church and bamby promoters carmel ophir, frankie, and mykel stevens and phat black pussycat promoter conrad and bill spector. it is a piece of miami beach history for the locals and to use its name in the city in which it was arguably the best locals night for over a decade is just plain out rude and disrespectful.... - i don't think anyone needs to cower the history of miami and not name something because its been used before but in my opinion there are five names that are untouchable in south florida unless the original promoters are involved 1) phat black pussy cat 2) home cookin 3) the church 4)purgatory 5) back door bamby- other than those, free game but those five nights are legendary and shaped south florida - just so we are clear I was not directly involved in any if you were wondering.... - there are my constructive and critical thoughts...... just sayin:rolleyes:

oh gawd... Jon, a party from the 90's??? Are you kidding me??

What is the statue of limitations on club party names?

Jon, seriously, let it go, you are acting like Al Bundy talking about the 4 TDs he caught in the championship game back in HS... It's 2008, the people who partied in sobe in the 90's are all in their 40's now. Only .0000000000000001% of the current club crowd would ever know what home cooking was or even groove jet.

it was at rain less than a year or so ago.....

would you name a night disco 2000, body and soul or robots in NYC? the nights mentioned above are just as meaningful to this city as those were too newyork....

your acting like yourslef - a total ass clown!!

It could be a dog's age ago, but it's still close enough that the parties involved could take offense to it.

Mark still DJs all over the place, Shelly is still around doing her thing, and Carmel and co are certainly not sitting around at Century Village.

Let's put it in perspective.

I've recently come into about 4 million dollars. I'm gonna partner up with a well known club operator (since I need help) and we're gonna open up a joint somewhere in the area.

Gonna call it Temptations.

I honestly haven't been nor do I remember hearing of this party. I have never been to Groovejet. I would never bite someones idea like your apparently accusing me of. Whens is the last time someone brought Pete Moss down here, or a Grab artist...Nordic Trax??? Not trying to toot my own horn here but a little props or respect dosn't hurt too much does it??

Well yeah but at the same time it pays to do a bit of research if you're gonna be really getting into the party scene and doing stuff like this. I'll accept that this guy made an honest mistake, but at the same time, it's just one of those things that the real old-schoolers and natives will get miffed about. It might be far gone enough that Carmel, Bill, etc might not give a shit, but who knows? They don't actively post here so I can't speak for them.

But it pays to do your research. I'm neither a neophyte nor a native. I'm in the middle. I got here in the summer of '97 (2 days before Versace was killed) on the crest of the first wave of Miami popularity. Nonetheless, one of the things I got into was the club scene. Maybe it's just me, but even as just some guy about town (at the time) I made it my business to know who the players were and what had come before. For example, if I had thrown a party back then, I wouldn't have called it Salvation, Fire and Ice, Fever, or something to that nature. Venues that were around long before I got there, but nonetheless something I would have probably needed to know.

Maybe we're nit-picking here, but that's the nature of this forum :).

Well, on the upside, these parties at Blue just got a bit of free publicity and bumping.

Maybe that's a tactic for some of the neophyte promoters, name your party after something in the past, and some of the old-schoolers will come on here, hang you out to dry, and the thread gets bumped up constantly. And inevitably, some people will show to the party.

He was into Beretta whereas I carry a Glock 18C. The girl I was dating at the time got me into it. Before I was a SIG person.

I have been throwing partys and dj'ing for over ten years. In the nineties I was throwing DnB events and playing at parties such as Buzz and Fever. so I dont think neophyte promoters is an appropriate thing to call me. I really don't get involved in this stupid MB drama but I feel the need to defend my self on this one>> I have better things to do than conjure up ways to get "up" on the board..The party speaks for its self in my opinion>>

All I advise anyone in this industry to do is "do their homework". I've seen little gaffes develop into big furballs that eventually will sink a promoter and get him or her run out of town.

Again, it's the nature of the board. We could sit here all day comparing dick size, but I will say Jon might have a valid gripe since he was involved in the venue in question.

Now, let me ask you this, if you were involved in those parties back in the day, how is it that you never heard of the party being discussed here? It's not like we're talking about Cracktackular Sundays at whichever fly-by-night venue opened this week. Home Cookin' was an institution in it's day.

You might not want to get involved in the "MB drama" or whatever, but sometimes it has a funny way of finding you and you have no choice to get caught up in it. It's best to be prepared just in case. I don't like it anymore than you do, but it is the reality of the club scene down here. In an ideal world it'd be about the music and the guy or girl hitting the blinking green button on the CDJ, but politics rule the roost since we all secretly, or not so secretly (hell it makes for interesting debate) enjoy it.

listen... i never meant to be harsh and I know i may have come across that way. dan is right, i do take some exception as I was involved with groovejet. I never said your party was "lame" I said using the name of a legendary party "home cookin" was lame.... how was colette? the colette night wasn't great honestly- we did about 700 heads in total but we did over 2200 on saturday for dj dan... some nights are good some aren't.... thats just night life... heineken's are $8 dollars at shine by the way... always have been - 6 for domestic 8 for imports - I think its the same as blue - what does beer price have to do with anything anyways?? if you say you didn't know then you didn't know but to say you've worked in sobe and not heard of home cookin is hard to believe - anyways, anyone who knows me knows that I am all for love and unity and the betterment of the scene - i give you props for moss - best of luck dude - there was no need for a personal attack man.. shows maturity...

Again, back to my example for V. Barbarino's benefit, if I named my club or party Temptations, I am sure I would get crucified on NJGuido, and Denny would probably be on the phone with me post-haste asking what the heck my problem was.

Imagine if I called it Paradise Garage? Christ, I'd need personal security every time I left my apt.
