FRIDAY, JANUARY 19, 2001: BUZZ BACK IN TIME -- OLD SCHOOL PARTY

Regular Admission: $11 before 11 p.m/$15 after 11 p.m.

The Future rave in Wilmer's Park, MD 1992. Caffeine on Long Island 1992. The first Buzz Party at the East Side Club 1993.

Ultraworld's Emerald Forest 1994. Fever -- A Family Affair 1995. Wild Things on U St. 1996. Were you there? Do wish you could've

been? Doesn't matter if you were or not, because tonight Buzz bends the rules of time, space and sound. We resurrect the ghosts of buried

vinyl treasure with selections from the past decade of underground dance culture.

Here's what we plan to dig up -- Scott Henry will deliver an old school UK hardcore set in the main room and a Bit o' Honey set in the front

room. Micro, Debo and Lieven will drop trance and progressive house classics. Stakka and Skynet will offer a unique British twist with an

old-school jungle refreshment course. And John Tab will spin a lush, atmospheric drum 'n' bass set.

Expect to hear the following tracks tonight: "Close Your Eyes (Overdose)," Acen, "O Fortuna," Apotheosis, "Valley of the Shadows,"

Origin Uknown, "Horizons," LTJ Bukem," "Viva House," Viva House, "7 Days and a Week," BBE, "Don't Go," Awesome 3, "Positive

Education," Slam, "Bombscare," 2 Bad Mice, "Let Me Be Your Fantasy," Baby D., and many more...

DC always gets really psyched up for an old school party, an annual Buzz favorite. Don't miss it!

body suits order drinks by the bar. Massive screens facing you in all directions with clips from your favorite Japanese animé movies.

State-of-the-art Japanese animation set in a future not so far away. It makes you wonder, are you watching the movie, or are you the

A prodigious talent, Slater has long been at the forefront of British techno. Coming to prominence in the early '90's, his name became

synonymous with a brutal and uncompromising sound. Recording for a variety of labels under a number of guises, Slater refined a unique and

challenging style. By 1997 he had put his nomadic existence behind him settling with novamute through whom he released his

groundbreaking opus Freek Funk a year later. An eclectic mix of styles and sounds, Freek Funk was rightly hailed as a break-through

piece. The album took Slater far beyond the rigid confines of the techno scene establishing him as an artist capable of creating works of

staggering brilliance. Live shows and successful festival appearances throughout 1998 consolidated his growing reputation. By 1999 Slater

had begun work on his follow up album with which he made a decision to return to basics and explore his adolescent love of electro. The

resultant LP, Wireless, was the perfect crystallisation of his influences updated and put in a modern day context.
