Krish and the rest of you guyst that might have any relevant info:

I am looking into moving to NY within a month. Would anyone know of the easiest, most effective way to search for an apt? (without getting a dealer involved)

Check out the Village Voice online. They post listings before they show up in print.

Also, the New York Times is good sometimes.

You will have more luck and get a better place if you look in Brooklyn too. It's a much better place to live than Manhattan.

Above all, be prepared for a fight. Be decisive and jump on something the minute you like it, but don't jump on something because of desperation.

good luck.

Yeah,

I suggest looking in the Village Voice. It'll be awfully hard to find a place and not have a brooker get involved. They pretty much have the market on lock-down and thats just the way real estate works up there. But like Judson said, try looking in Brooklyn right across the water. All my friends who have moved to NYC found a place in the Wiliamsburg section of Brooklyn. Try looking there. Happy hunting...

Hey, whats up! Yeah, I guess all these suggestions are what I'd go by too. Its gonna be a bit tough without a broker, but shouldn't be impossible, especially if you're willing to live right across the river in Brooklyn.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes.
