pod
Just had a chat with my friend who works door @ Opium...the new downtown Opium will be open in 2 months.
dieg0
It seems that the success or failure of this place is going to be dependent on what route the owners decide to go with...Will it be an Opium II... VIP crowd, tough door policy, a focus on image w/ music as an afterthought.orWill it be more of an afterhours type place a-la Space w/ a focus on the music and bringing in great talent... minus all the negatives that have been brought up about Space here on the board. The second option would definately be great... It would finally offer an alternative to what is now the de-facto afterhours in Miami.I have a feeling that it wouldn't simply be another Opium II opening up. The simple fact that they can obtain a 24 hr liquour license downtown that they aren't able to get on SoBe will probably influence the approach they take w/ the club.Who knows, maybe it will turn out being a gay club like dancingchick mentioned. georgeacasta2
If I was owner of Fuel this is how I would run it!1. Dress code would be very very casual. Everyone would be required to wear 3 piece suits to get in!2. Age limit would be strictly enforced. 15 yrs old and up would only be allowed in the club. If you are caught getting in illegally you should be punished and sent to New York.3. Bathrooms will have helpful personel. If the guy working the bathroom asks for a tip your allowed to piss on his hand!4. All the emphasis on the club will be on the music. If someone were to die in the middle of the dancefloor the music cannot stop. If nuclear war were to start or a category 5 hurricane were to hit FL. All our resident DJ's would be expected to spin that night!5. Security would be handled by an elite mercenary security force. Hell's Angels would be contracted to do security for the club. aztec-mystic
Drew, if you're a true Edgar V fan why don't you come out on Fridays and support him like you used to last year. I'm their faithfully every Friday that I know he will be spinning. Not only cause I've supported Edgar since he used to sell vinyl at Nitebeat records in Hialeah. But because I'm not a sellout. All the wieners on this board that bitch and moan about Edgar not playing on Saturdays are sellouts. And you know why,,, cause while your making excuses as to why he should be playing on Sturdays you fail to realize that he still plays at Space ON FRIDAYS, just like he did last year when Friday nights at Space ruled clubland. PEOPLE,,,,, STOP WIENING ABOUT EDGAR NOT PLAYING ON SATURDAYS AND GO SUPPORT HIM ON FRIDAYS..JUST LIKE YOU DID LAST YEAR!!!!Yo Edgar, c-ya Friday………….. cooljunkie
What were the main problems with the original Fuel?
pod
Problem #1 was the almost-universally reviled Stefan the doorman. He managed to bungle the 'test-drive' opening night, where 90% of the crowd had to stand outside for quite awhile. Problem #2 Fuel pissed off the only resident they had slated that could draw a crowd...David Padilla. Problem #3 Last-minute reorganization from 'be-yourself' to 'classy, upscale venue'...Problem #4 was desperate scramble at the last minute for customers...lots of 18+ nights, cheesy acts, even nights where a house DJ would be followed by a hip-hop DJ or worse yet someone who tried to mix the two. Minor issues were with a sound system being tooled up for overall loudness as opposed to quality and very high drink prices.
bbflux
Despite what has already been said on this thread I can tell you a few things about this new venue if it will, indeed, be gay.1. Forget about having a problem if you are an unescorted male - you will be welcome with open arms and possibly a kiss.2. Forget about the high scale VIP shit - these guys are all shirtless and sweaty by 1am3. The music will, most likely, be somewhere b/w very good and decent with the likes of M. Lehman, Abel, A. Calagna, etc... unless they wanna start bringing in superstar talent (which is rare unless it's Calderon - and I hate Calderon)The gay venues are really a lot of fun but it's not for everyone. Actually, I think a gay venue in downtown would be cool.
pod
The gay club thing is the least likely scenario I think....most likely I see either an Opium II or an Opium-esque place altered for the downtown area. Gay-friendly for sure, think like crobar. I honestly hope for a place that will cater to my sick desire for sexy disco house more. 320 used to but now that place turned to shit. I heard gangsta booty shit blaring out of it last Saturday.

pod
My Opium source confirmed a few more things today...Club Name: VegasHours of Operation: Most likely will not open until 4 AM. Door Policy: Opium...well at least we know where we'll stand. No bullshit like Space (where they pretend to be fair..) does, but it's a total Studio 54 implementation. Crowd content: Doormen instructed to keep out the trash. On the upside it means no thug behaviour whatsoever...Dresscode: Not decided at this time. Music: Sexy house
