Ran across this the other day, and wanted to see what ya'll thought of this... This is in reffrence to an earlier post about Life...

"I see all this potential...

and I see it squandered.

An entire generation of pumping gas...

of waiting tables...

slaves with white collars.

Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes...

working jobs we hate

so we can buy shit we don't need.

We're the middle children of history man...

with no purpose or place....

We have no great war,

No great depression.

Our great war is a spiritual war.

Our great depression is our lives.

We've all been raised on television

to believe that one day we'll be millionaires

and movie gods and rock stars...

But we won't.....

and we're slowly learning that fact....

and we're very, very pissed off."

"We've all been raised on television

to believe that one day we'll be millionaires

and movie gods and rock stars...

But we won't...

and we're slowly learning that fact....

and we're very, very pissed off."

Dolor by Theodore Roethke

I have known the inexorable sadness of pencils,

Neat in their boxes, dolor of pad and paper weight,

All the misery of manila folders and mucilage,

Desolation in immaculate public places.

Lonely reception room, lavatory, switch-board,

The unalterable pathos of basin and pitcher,

Ritual of multigraph, paper clip, comma,

Endless duplication of lives and objects.

And I have seen dust from the walls of institutions,

Finer than flour, alive, more dangerous than silica,

Sift, almost invisible, through long afternoons of tedium,

Dropping a fine film on nails and delicate eyebrows,

Glazing the pale hair, the duplicate grey standard faces.

i dont feel this is going to be a great war... or a war at all. i dont think its going to last long or even last at all... itll be very similar to the desert storm "thing" we had...

however im not a strategist or work for the military and i could be dead wrong... and we could be like middle east and ahve war forever or like england constantly getting bombed or like korea or yugo, or anyother country that is having these 100 year battles with no rhyme reseaon or results.. who knows...

but i feel that this will be over just as fast as it started...

btw, it was quote from somewhere i ran across i forgot were though... sorry.

I wish I felt as positive as you... But after last week I have no idea what to think about all this anymore. I hope you're right, but any complacency I had is gone. I don't want to sound like I'm foretelling doom and gloom... but... all I'm trying to say is we never know it's coming until suddenly- it's there... :(
