Here is what Gruvgirl has to say: Online Interview: Dawn Gluskin (Gruvgirl)Place of birth: Fairfax, Virginia Current Residence:Melbourne, FLWhat inspired you to become a dj? Music has always been a main focus of my life. Once I fell in love with this music, it was only a matter of time before I found myself behind the decks. It's awesome to share new music with people. :-) how would you describe your dj style? I like funky, sexy grooves that make the dancefloor move! My style is mostly upbeat, funky House, but I have a love for dnb, so it gets it fair share of play, too. :-) what is the first music you remember hearing as a child? The Beatles, James Taylor ... my dad was always listening to them (still does), so that's what I remember hearing! The first record I remember owning was Disco Mickey Mouse. Damn, I used to rock out to that album. hehe. some events you have dj-ed: Rebirth - Syracuse, NY, The Jee Spot - Panama City Beach, Girls Night Out at Storm Club - Cocoa Beach, Elements - Orlando, Rockers - Melbourne, Rise - Deland, Empire - Orlando, this week ..Lumonics! djs/music artist/groups that are your biggest influence: Charles Feelgood is one of my favorites because knows how to deliver the funk! His skills and energy are where I aspire to be. Most of all, however, my friends & family (who seem to all be DJs) have been the most supportive & inspiring to me!do you produce your own tracks? I don't spend nearly as much time as I'd like doing this, but I've got a few tracks I'm working on. I need to lock myself in the studio for a weekend, so I might actually finish one! I like writing some "experimental" tracks, but mostly more along the lines of what I like to play ... funky grooves! :-) label or crew affiliation, web site: Katalyst Records - www.katalystrecords.comJIVE Magazine - www.jivemagazine.com Universal Groove Radio - www.universal-groove.co.uk 3 favorite songs of all time:I've got way too many favorite songs of all time! A few of them: James Brown - Funk on a Roll (Olav rmx)Mighty Dub Katz - Just a Groove J Majik - Blamewhat you are listening to in the car these days? Oron - Something You Need to Know Josh the Funky 1 - House Funktion 3 Marcus Intalex - Live Set where do you hope to be in 5 years? Producing my own tracks & traveling the world!how do you think music will change in the next 5 years? I see underground dance music becoming increasingly popular & slowly becoming more mainstream. This means more exposure for all the hard working DJs & producers out there, but it also means everyone & their mother will probably be jumping on the bandwagon ... how would you assess the dance scene these days? It got its good & bad points.. We need more positive people pushing things forward & less drama! what is your favorite web site?JIVE Magazine - www.jivemagazine.comwhen not spinning or listening to music, I will be? Catching up on sleep!any other comment: See you Saturday at Lumonics! :-) _________________________________Peace & Respect from the Lumonics crewFort Lauderdale, FLwww.lumonics.net
