brickhouse
Depends what kind of music and scene and crowd you're into (and how old you are).PVD at SF if you like him is an obvious one. If you don't, Stanton Warriors (along with I believe DJ Disciple) will be playing at Centro Fly (21+). In general, the megaclubs kinda go like this (if any of these descriptions piss you off or you think they're inaccurate, then post your own...none of these reviews are all that great)Sound Factory - A lot of people hit it up for after hours. Very big but also very grungy, and the acoustics aren't that great because it's so cavernous. Lots of youngins with fake IDs early in the night, lots of people on K later in the night. If you like straight up trance, probably the best place to go for you though.Vinyl - 18+ club, doesn't serve alcohol. Even grungier than SF, but more of a crowd that's there for the music rather than for the scene. Tenaglia is a resident there on Fridays, although I don't think he'll be there that weekend because of WMC. Lots of people on drugs here too, but not quite as wasted off them than SF. Danny Howells will be playing there Saturday.Roxy - Someone else can review it. It's really big. Skating rink converted into a club.Centro - 21+. Much swankier, but also closes earlier (around 5:30ish). Not too many people on drugs, but almost everyone's drunk; has a dress code which many people don't like. Probably closer to a meat market than some of the other clubs. Not the best sounds system in the world, but this place and Vinyl tend to get the best DJs.Exit - Another cavernous one. Gets better at later hours. Junior Vasquez has a residency there on Saturdays (really Sundays since he plays from about 5 AM till 2 PM or later). Lots of biscuitheads and jailbait on Fridays, mostly gay shirtless crowd on Sundays.Shelter - It's official grand opening will be that Saturday. Large place, many floors, good system, really needs better ventilation (hopefully that's been fixed by now). Will be garage playing that night with Timmy Regisford and Patti Labelle. Very chill crowd. Mostly black, but nobody really gives a fuck because they're there for the music.Webster Hall - Really big. Nobody who lives in the state of New York goes there. Epic Trance, 80's and Hip-hop going on on Fridays, not sure what on Saturdays. Avoid unless you want to get your leg humped by sexually repressed guidos. Also closes the earliest of the megaclubs, which is another negative, unless you really want to spend money and go to SF or Vinyl for afterhours...In case ya missed it, Twilo, Tunnel, and Limelight are not around anymore (Limelight will be back eventually). Unfortunately, other than the 29th (PVD at SF, Stanton Warriors at Centro, DJ Hyper at Baktun [a smaller club/lounge]), it's sort of a dead weekend because of WMC. Also, if you're gonna be around on Thursday, Centro will be having Layo and Bushwacka! along with resident Erick Morillo.
bigpoppanils
Roxy good on Fridays (Johnny Vicious every friday, special performances and guest dj's often)Vinyl fridays: Danny Tenaglia resident, great for afterhoursVinyl Saturdays: Danny Howells residency last saturday of every month, other "big-name" dj's on other saturdays
