Lineup: 10-18 - ERIC PRYDZ 10-25 - CEDRIC GERVAIS 11-01 - BORIS 11-08 - JAMES ZABIELA 11-15 - JOSH GABRIEL (GABRIEL & DRESDEN) 11-22 - SHARAM (DEEP DISH) 11-27 - DAVID GUETTA Panorama Productions presents GLOW – Washington D.C. – Saturdays at Ibiza Nightclub Saturday October 18th 2008 ERIC PRYDZ (www.ericprydz.com/myspace.com/ericprydz) Opening set by CICONTE (District Ignition | Metronix | DC) Eric Prydz is on a roll at the moment, without doubt leading the way. His labels Mouseville, Pryda, & Pryda Friends are positively brimming with underground club hits. Eric is now in charge of three highly respected labels whose releases are in feverish demand, consistently selling huge quantities of vinyl which is truly incredible in the markets current climate. The labels are arguably proving to be the most successful and forward thinking imprints currently existing. Each label was strictly developed to give Eric a platform to release his own productions without outside interference, simply his music on his terms. It was important for Eric to step back after his previous successes and release music without schedules and pressure. Ultimately he wanted to control his own image & destiny, something extremely important to him and his career. The ethos behind the labels was truly underground, scarcely any promotion, no press intrusion and true label/design identity… a formula which has proven massively successful! Releases on his more hard-edged Mouseville Records under the pseudonym Cirez D have been tough and powerful a throw back to the underground techno roots his native Sweden has become so famous for. The huge demand for this label has been nothing short of amazing with his massive ‘Knockout EP’ selling over 18,000 copies on vinyl alone. The more melodic based Pryda imprint showcases his early house influences with harmonies, melodies and hooks fused with his trademark powerful basslines. Pryda & Mouseville are solely for Eric’s own productions, vehicles to develop his sound a sound that has become so influential, constantly imitated and copied but yet to be bettered. Therefore Pryda Friends was created to release friend’s productions as currently there was no other outlet for the growing list of tracks submitted to Eric by his close colleagues. Collaborations such as the hugely successful Paolo Mojo “1983†& Axer “123â€/ “321†written with fellow Swede Axwell proved the worth of this new imprint. Then just recently he became the first ever artist to be given the green light to sample Pink Floyd as his massive ‘Proper Education’ fused “Another Brick In The Wall’s†school choir chorus into a UK & European chart smash for Ministry of Sound. Eric has proven to be an artist that can actually fuse commercial success with underground success, something previously impossible to achieve and sustain. It was always the enjoyment of working with music that kept Eric coming back for more. From making music on the piano aged 8 to convincing his parents to buy him a keyboard so he could make his own Depeche Mode tracks it was always “just a bit of fun.†However, with his debut artist album set to hit the world this summer, Eric’s key loves of house, techno and electro will see him bring all of his styles under one roof for the first time as his underground club roots come to the fore. A bonefide global chart smash in the making, it’s surprising just how far a bit of ‘fun’ can go. Going back to 1994 Eric became the drummer in a synth band called ‘Enemy Alliance’, touring Sweden and dreaming of becoming the next Kraftwerk. He jacked his job in, hooked up with two friends who had a small studio set up making more pop based material and lived the next two years virtually penniless - working on his own hard-hitting, techno-funk tracks and DJing locally when gigs came up. Eric’s first release came about almost by accident. Having made a bunch of new material solely on a Roland MC-505 Groovebox he gave a cassette to a friend who ran a clothing store in Stockholm. Eventually finding its way to the London offices of EMI’s New Religion, in 2000 they released ‘By Your Side’/Mr. Jingles’ and Eric was at last on the hallowed grooves of black vinyl. After the success of that initial release, EMI moved Eric to their flagship dance label Credence. A remix of the boogie bassline driven ‘Mr Jingles’ together with two new tracks followed and ‘EP1’ formed the first of three hugely successful releases. By the time ‘EP3’ came around, Eric had developed into one of the hottest names in house music and the original version of ‘Slammin’ from EP3 became the biggest instrumental tune on Ibiza in the summer of 2003. As an in demand producer the remix offers were flying in. Defining moments like his work on fellow Swede Steve Angello’s ‘Voices’ & Woz Not Woz firmly established Eric’s trademark electronic sound and he went on to remix the likes of The Shapeshifter’s, Alter Ego, Pet Shop Boys and Switch to name but a few. Then things went a bit crazy. A record that he made to play out for friends in Stockholm that sampled a vocal hook from Stevie Winwood’s ‘Valerie’ became a local club anthem off the back of just six dub plates. A year later in 2004 ‘Call On Me’ was out on Ministry of Sound’s Data imprint, topping half the national charts of Europe and remaining at number 1 for six weeks in the UK, generating sales of over 2.5 million units worldwide. As Mouseville Records and Pryda Recordings continue to deliver the dancefloor goods, Eric Prydz is now one of the world’s most in demand underground spinners and producers. With is debut album and new single set to drop, the worlds of techno and house are in safe hands. -The Main Room (House-Progressive-Trance) -The Lobby (Hip Hop-Old School-Rock Mashups) -The Lounge (World Beat) -The Rooftop (House-Chill Out-Sexxy Beats) GLOW – Washington D.C. Panorama Productions presents GLOW – Washington D.C. – Saturdays at Ibiza Nightclub Saturday October 11th 2008 SANDER KLEINENBERG –DVDJ SET (www.sanderkleinenberg.com) Opening set by DAN SAMPSON (Release, Alternative Route, Glow-UK) Superstar Dutch DJ and producer Sander Kleinenberg has built his international reputation on an ability to create different atmospheres, for myriad crowds, at venues all over the world. No wonder then that the legendary Ibiza nightclub Pacha a destination for travelers from points all over the globe should tap Sander as the new resident for their long-running Friday night party, Pure Pacha Ibiza. "Pacha is a club with such a legacy, and historically, Friday is their busiest evening," observes Kleinenberg. "It's a great showroom to be DJing in, a place where people come to celebrate. I'm very honored to be representing." Although far from Sander's first visit to Pacha Ibiza he has played there repeatedly over the last few years, including hosting his own Sunday night soiree, Everybody but he made an especially big impression on patrons as a guest at Pure Pacha in 2007. Subsequently, when resident DJ Pete Tong announced his plans to move on after a five-year run, management immediately offered Kleinenberg the prestigious gig. Sander first visited the celebrated Balearic Island over a decade ago, on a memorable summer holiday that included a Sunday morning set at Space. "I instantly fell in love with everything about Ibiza: The hedonism, the beautiful landscape, the fantastic Spanish kitchens," he recalls. "It is a combination of all the things I love in life. That island holds a very special place in my heart. It's a place where I can be myself, and see other people being themselves." The season kicks off with an official opening party on Friday, May 30, and continues through September 26, with Sander behind the decks roughly every other week. What can revelers expect to find at Pure Pacha under his auspices? "The best word for what I've got my mind set on is fresh. In terms of visuals, we're looking at a lot of candy colors, really bright, even a little bit girly. Musically, I want it to be uplifting and summery." Kleinenberg is not only an artist who declines to stick to a single, easily defined sound, he also utilizes more than one medium to create a night out. Long at the forefront of integrating video imagery and other visuals in his VDJ sets, Sander includes Pioneer among his sponsors for Pure Pacha Ibiza. The manufacturer will be outfitting the club with their SVM-1000 audio-visual mixer (which Kleinenberg helped develop) and plasma televisions, exclusively for his performances. Integrating music and images single-handedly requires sharpened skills and on-the-fly invention. "Now, in the process of DJing, I am in control of another dimensions. The thought processes are not just about music; there is a visual element as well." Which allows his to shape his identity, and stimulate crowds, in a host of fresh ways. "This is a whole new way of looking at what you do creatively. In the end, that is very challenging. It makes you more versatile as well. I love keeping on my toes." Sander will continue to show off his aesthetic flexibility at other residencies during the course of the year, too, including Ministry of Sound in London, and Avalon in Los Angeles. Each of these gigs affords him unique creative opportunities; the black box interior and pristine sound of Ministry elicits different impulses from him than the storied, historic Avalon. Which is how he likes it. "Residencies are like laboratories: You can go in and experiment. As you get to know the sound system and the clientele, and become comfortable, you have more faith in each potential change of direction." Kleinenberg is also hitting the summer festival circuit, with sets scheduled at Creamfields, Global Gatherings in the UK, Kiev, and Poland, and a rare appearance at Glastonbury. "That is a super-exciting place to be doing what I do," he says of the latter. "Rest assured, I will be preparing something special for that Sunday. That is going to be one of the highlights of my year." So his calendar is jam-packed. But for Sander, there is always still more to do. The head of his own Little Mountain label, and a producer of sublime original tracks that elude being easily date-stamped, Kleinenberg plans to tap into all the facets of his creativity for his next album, forthcoming at a date to be determined. "I am working on a definitive document," he hints. "I want to create a real landmark, both visually and musically, where I say, 'This has been my journey over the last twenty years and this is where I am now.'" -The Main Room (House-Progressive-Trance) -The Lobby (Hip Hop-Old School-Rock Mashups) -The Lounge (World Beat) -The Rooftop (House-Chill Out-Sexxy Beats) GLOW – Washington D.C. Native" because he has been playing at Glow since 2001 "Glow is one of the most established brands in the global clubbing industry. Like Dj's, clubs too got to re-invent themselves and evolve constantly to keep their fans happy. That's why Glow has such a huge following and DJ's keep coming back. I've been playing glow at least 3 times per year since 2001 and it's always one of my best nights of the tour. I've NEVER had a bad night. This is how you should run a night!" says Armin van Buuren. Let's just say that Armin van Buuren is coming to his second home Aged just 31, Armin Van Buuren has been named number one in the prestigious DJ Top 100 poll – voted for by over 350,000 people across the world, and an indication of his prolific output over the 10 years he’s been DJing and producing. Being the official World’s Best DJ is just one of his many achievements, but the driving force behind his success is an overriding passion for dance music. Even a basic list of recent successes reads like a lifetime of work: ‘Best Album’ for artist album “Shivers†at both the Dutch Release Dance Awards and the prestigious Edison Awards; ‘Best Compilation’ for “A State Of Tranceâ€, and ‘Best Mix Radio Dutch Show’ at the Miami Winter Music Conference 2006 for radio show ‘A State Of Trance’ – now broadcasting on a massive 40 FM stations as well as satellite and internet radio, with over 6 million listeners a week; a 5th year residency in Ibiza at Amnesia; sell-out shows for Armin Only (12,500 people saw the nine-and-a-half hour Rotterdam live set and show and a world tour is planned); over 50,000 downloads every week from podcasting high end chart-bothering positions all over the world for singles, albums and compilations, with single “Rush Hour†used as the theme tune to the UEFA European Youth Championship; a second DVD, ‘Armin Only ‘Ahoy 2006’ – the landmarks just keep coming! Born in Leiden, Holland (on December 25, 1976) to a musical family, Armin indulged his passion for music from a young age. He spent all the money he earned with his paper round on records. His mum won a computer when he was 10, “So as a little nerdy kid I was writing my own basic programmes, and learnt about the technology from there.†He progressed from making low-profile mix tapes for friends to higher profile mixes when he discovered experimenting with different sequences on his computer through his uncle. “I was so stunned by what I saw him doing on the computer, that I got addicted to creating music right there and then!†“I loved dance music immediately – this great rebellious sound that was so different to the ‘beautiful’ songs of the years beforeâ€. Armin cites electronic pioneer Jean Michel Jarre as a major influence (famed for his awesome visuals as well as his groundbreaking synth sounds), as well as Dutch producer Ben Liebrand, who later mentored him in his mixing and producing. In the early days, Armin thought it was wise to have something extra in case the DJ’ing didn’t work out. So he studied for a law degree. The final year of his course was inevitably stretched as he juggled his studies with his increasingly hectic schedule; his rise to fame included lots of productions and remixes, as well as playing out to packed clubs every weekend. It took him three years to graduate, but his determination made him succeed! Armin’s own productions have all made a huge impact with his last 12 singles hitting the Top 40 in Holland, and gaining worldwide acclaim. His back catalogue includes Blue Fear, Communication, Sound of Goodbye, Shivers, Rush Hour, Burned With Desire, Exhale, Love You More, This World Is Watching Me, and Yet Another Day. While the remix offers flood in, Armin only takes on tracks that he really loves. He uses exactly the same criteria for his compilations, meaning that every release from Armin or his long-running Armind label is a bone fide stormer that’s earned its place. His output includes tracks for the cult TV series 24, and the likes of Motorcycle’s When The Rush Comes. Armin is a dedicated trance lover, but isn’t imprisoned by a single genre, saying “What makes trance work so well is that it doesn’t stick to one style, and can incorporate electro, minimal, whatever it likes.†His desire to showcase more of the great music he hears, along with the number of people sending him tracks they wanted to release, led to the obvious step of starting his own label, Armada, in 2003. The label is a joint venture between Armin, Maykel Piron (former head of A&R for Warner Music) and David Lewis, who'd previously managed Armin. "What we wanted was a company that could offer everything for an artist: representation, a booking agency, and a record company. Artists can choose full management, or to just release a record or play out at gigs. Armada lets the artists choose what they want without telling them what to do". Armin is now a fully-fledged artist in his own right, having made his songwriting debut on his last album, the award-winning Shivers; and artist album three is in the pipeline… The events continue to get bigger and bigger, and Armin regularly headlines the likes of Sensation White, Global Gathering, Dance Valley, ZoukOut, Mysteryland, Coachella, Beats In Brazil, Trance Energy, Fort Dance, Summer Days, Dance Valley – basically whether you’re in Australia, Russia, the Middle East, the US or Europe, you can catch Armin van Buuren at a club or festival near you! "This is just what I really want," says Armin. "It’s not just love for music, it’s my passion. It goes beyond liking, and beyond a hobby, it’s about a way of living. Music is essential to my lifeâ€. As a musician and DJ, he is set apart from his contemporaries by his constant desire to push the boundaries of his genre, inspiring both his fans and collaborators alike with his music. Vic (to his friends) has had an amazing career of successful residencies, chart-topping productions and star-studded remixes. But his ever-growing popularity and forward-thinking sound prove that he’s just getting started. A DJ with an underground vibe and cult following very early on, Victor shot to dance music stardom with massive hits like Give It Up, Beat Me Harder, and Resonate. His natural studio talent attracted some very big attention, leading to remix work with some of pop music’s most popular artists, including Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Beyonce, and Madonna (with whom he has worked a stunning total of ten times). However, it was his collaboration with Sting on the single "Desert Rose," in which Sting recorded new vocals to match Calderone’s re-worked version, that especially stands out. Sting’s very first dance remix spend an unbelievable 80 weeks on the Billboard dance music chart (nine at number one), and was very well received by the artist himself: "Victor Calderone is highly energetic and his musical contribution helped introduce ‘Desert Rose’ to an entirely new audience. I look forward to working with him again." - Sting Anyone who has experienced a Victor Calderone party firsthand will tell you that it is Vic’s ability to create sexy, spiritual live gigs that truly sets him apart. A real "DJ’s DJ," his sets are able to blend the old with the new, the crowd favorite with the obscure, and to span genres from banging tribal to techy minimal with grace and energy. It is no wonder, then, that his residencies read like a veritable timeline of club land itself. He has played at Manhattan institutions Limelight and Life, ruled Miami with a high profile residency at Liquid during the club’s heyday, and held down an impressive three year run at fabled venue The Roxy. Never one to rest on his impressive laurels, Victor has continued to challenge himself with a rigorous global tour schedule and groundbreaking projects such as his massive, self-produced event "Caligula," in 2001. This 5000 person party at Hammerstein Ballroom featured live vocal performances by Cindi Lauper, acrobats, and a 50 piece orchestra. He has released best selling mix albums like "E=VC2" (volumes 1 & 2) and "Resonate," and even arranged the music for a number of Dolce & Gabana and Versace runway shows in Milan. Most recently, Victor has taken the sum total of his musical history and inspiration, and channeled it into the experience that is "Evolve." Whether on tour in Australia, Europe, South America, Israel, Japan, & Dubai, or at "Evolve" events in the states such as Crobar (NY and Miami), the "Evolve" brand has become synonymous with over-the-top debauchery, quality music, quality production and dazzling lighting. Especially influential to Victor has been his residency at Stereo Montreal, an amazing five years and counting that he credits with shaping his current sound. This sound, and the essence of his live gigs, has been magically distilled into his most recent album, aptly titled "Evolve," released on Ultra Records in 2007. But Victor is not done yet. He has formed a number of successful musical relationships with the industry’s best and brightest, including DJ Vibe, Chus & Ceballos and Peter Bailey, with whom he collaborates on the decks and in the studio. The Brooklyn native also recently added a cutting-edge new studio to the DUMBO loft he shares with his wife & partner Athena and their son, where he will soon begin work on his long-anticipated artist album. The future, for Victor Calderone and his fans, is looking truly inspiring. -The Main Room (House-Progressive-Trance) -The Lobby (Hip Hop-Old School-Rock Mashups) -The Lounge (World Beat) -The Rooftop (House-Chill Out-Sexxy Beats) GLOW – Washington D.C. Over the past three years, Markus has crossed the globe on an almost constant basis. From Australia to Russia and as far away as China and Trinidad. Along with playing his hometown of Miami. Markus was also found in Ibiza at his summer residency at Amnesia; The Two Tribes Tour in Australia and New Zealand; Tomorrowland in Belgium; Mysterland and Trance Energy in The Netherlands; Nature One in Germany; Distant Heat in Jordan as well as clubs and in Kuala Lumpur, Romania, Czech Republic, Mexico, Sweden, Finland, Hungary, Slovakia, UK, Boston, Los Angeles, New York and the list goes on. Global DJ Broadcast, Markus’ weekly radio show, can now be heard on over 30 stations worldwide. His very special “Ibiza Summer Sessions†debuted in the summer of 2006. Wanting to give the listener the feeling of being part of the Ibiza summer, Markus planned each week with the best guest DJs and hottest music from the Balearic Islands. The mission was to bring Ibiza to those who couldn’t be there and add to the experience of those who were. And it worked. New stations the world over grabbed up the show for their audiences. Markus reached out through the airwaves to meet more people and touch their lives. His stunning second artist album, Progression, is a cumulation of these experiences, and offers listeners a slice of his trademark dark, melodic trance alongside beautiful chilled tracks, guitars, and sublime vocals. Says Markus, “Progression was conceived in the summer, whereas the debut album was done and released in winter, so Progression is less dark, and more influenced by sunny days in Miami. ‘Trinidad to Miami’ was actually written while I was flying over the ocean with the sun shining on the water, and encapsulates that feeling of optimism and happiness.†While some artists might find it hectic putting together an album with so much going on, Markus thrives on the inspiration he finds in his two bases – Miami and Berlin – and gigs everywhere in between. “I can't do one without the other - playing for the crowd makes me excited and gives me ideas for getting into the studio. When I’m in the studio, I can’t wait to play out what I’m making and seeing people react to it – the processes feed off each other." "When I grew up listening to music it had a huge influence on me, and made me who I am, so when I make my own music I do it with the listener in mind and try and recreate that one on one feeling I’ve always had. It’s something that gets you through hard times, is a soundtrack to good times, and touches you in a unique way." 2008 kicks off with the release of his fourth compilation for Armada Music, and Markus couldn’t be happier about its origins – Amsterdam is his spiritual home thanks to the overwhelming passion of the people resident there. “I always choose cities that are dear tome for my annual mix compilation†says Markus. “I just love Amsterdam, I feel a real connection there – my friends there are like my family. The people of Holland were one of the first to embrace and accept me and my sound, so it was the natural choice to do the 08 mix there.†2008 is set to bring more dates in Australia, as well as Asia and South America With no plans for slowing down anytime soon, Markus just might meet the world after all. -The Main Room (House-Progressive-Trance) -The Lobby (Hip Hop-Old School-Rock Mashups) -The Lounge (World Beat) -The Rooftop (House-Chill Out-Sexxy Beats) GLOW – Washington D.C. 10. Panorama Productions presents GLOW – Washington D.C. – www.ClubGlow.com Saturdays at Ibiza Nightclub Saturday September 13th 2008 PAUL VAN DYK - Vandit, Berlin-Germany (paulvandyk.com, myspace.com/paulvandyk) Opening set by DAN SAMPSON Grammy nominated artist and globally acclaimed DJ and Producer Paul van Dyk continues to dominate the electronic music charts and appears at the pinnacle of every Top DJ list across the globe. PvD, as his fans have nicknamed him, is currently ranked the World’s No. 1 DJ by DJ Magazine’s “Top 100 DJs poll†for the second consecutive year. His new original album In Between will be in stores August 2007 and features collaborations with David Byrne and Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls. PvD is renowned as one of the hardest working artists, with sold-out tours that cross each continent, headline spots at every major festival, and a hugely successful recording career. With over 3 million albums sold worldwide, van Dyk travels around the world over 16 times each year to sold out performances internationally. 2007 alone has brought us PvD remixes of Depeche Mode’s “Martyr†and Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around.†PvD received a Grammy nomination in 2005 for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his original album Reflections – this marked the first time NARAS recognized this category. His original productions from Reflections have been synced into major motion pictures such as Into the Blue, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, television’s Entertainment Tonight and MTV’s Cribs, and international ad campaigns for Motorola, HBO, Land Rover, Ski Vail and most recently for Jeep. This year he won the International Dance Music Award (IDMA) for Best Euro DJ. Previously, PvD won four IDMAs in 2006: Best Global DJ, Best NuNRG/Euro Track, Best Producer and Best Mix Compilation for The Politics fo Dancing 2. In addition, PvD was voted “America’s Favorite DJ†for 2004 and 2005 by BPM Magazine and was the big winner at the 2004 Dancestar Awards, taking home 3 awards: Best International DJ, Best Event and Best Music in a Commercial (Motorola). He also won the Mexican Oscar for his soundtrack in the film Zurdo in March 2004. Paul van Dyk was voted "Best Music Maker" by DJ Magazine, received the “Best International DJ Award†at the 1999 Music Awards in London, was named "Best International DJ" by Ministry of Sound Magazine, and Mixmag elected him as “Man of the Yearâ€. Aside from his musical activity, Paul van Dyk has always dedicated a significant part of his life to politics and social justice: from his youth, when he fled over the Berlin Wall to the West, to his children’s charity in India’s Mumbai, and his partnership scheme with the German Red Cross to help poor children in Berlin. In 2004, PvD was the only electronic artist involved in a nationwide tour with the Rock The Vote campaign, where he joined the likes of Bono, P Diddy, the Black Eyed Peas and George Clinton in campaigning for America’s youth to sign up to vote in the presidential election. He most recently received Berlin’s Medal of Honor (Landesverdienstorden) in recognition of his work with Ruckenwind, a charity organization he founded dedicated to helping poor children in Berlin. He joins a distinguished list of arts and political establishment figures with this honor. Born in Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany, Paul van Dyk grew up in communist East Berlin. Because his community did not have a true club culture, Paul van Dyk listened to the radio where he discovered his passion for music that extended beyond Techno music – he wanted to create a different, more unique sound. In the early 1990’s Paul van Dyk was spinning regularly at various clubs in Berlin before releasing his first album 45 RPM in 1994. But it wasn’t until the release of his second album Seven Ways which catapulted him into the Top 100, followed by the release of his hit single “For An Angel,†which began to earn him praise across the globe. By the time Paul van Dyk released Out There & Back in 2000, it became clear that the Berlin-based musician had far more to offer than his signature club sets and remixes that had already defined him as one of the most influential DJs and producers of all time. His first compilation mix CD Politics of Dancing was released in 2001, followed by Global in 2003 – a DVD which illustrates his own experiences traveling the world. Paul van Dyk created a revolutionary and visionary concept to offer internet users legal electronic music downloads called VONYC.com – a combination of radio and a music download shop overseen by specialists focused on the electronic dance scene. Paul van Dyk’s touring diary remains incredibly hectic with regular globetrotting stops at major venues across the globe from New York, London, Ibiza to India, China and Singapore. In the little time remaining between all the travel, Paul van Dyk resides in Berlin where he has his own radio show “Paul van Dyk’s VONYC Sessions†which airs weekly on Area 33 on Sirius Radio on Thursday nights at 6PM EST (and rebroadcasts Saturdays at 8PM EST and Tuesdays at Midnight EST) and Soundgarden which airs every Wednesday 2pm – 4pm (EST) on Fritz radio and over the internet (www.fritz.de). www.paulvandyk.com and www.myspace.com/paulvandyk NO line…NO wait…NO problem **Purchase Advanced Tickets** WWW.CLUBGLOW.COM -The Main Room (House-Progressive-Trance) -The Lobby (Hip Hop-Old School-Rock Mashups) -The Lounge (World Beat) -The Rooftop (House-Chill Out-Sexxy Beats) GLOW – Washington D.C. Saturdays at Ibiza Nightclub Saturday August 16th 2008 BORIS – N.Y. (www.djboris.com, myspace.com/believeinboris) Opening set LJMTX (District Ignition | Metronix | DC) The rich heritage of New York nightlife is focused on the figure of the resident DJ: The homegrown jock that puts down roots in a single venue, bonds with its crowd, and explores the limits of a DJ set with his faithful. The DJs who flourish in this demanding environment go on to become folk heroes, not only in New York, but all over the world (see Larry Levan, Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez). DJ Boris started his ascension to these ranks in 2004, when the native of St. Petersburg, Russia took up residence at New York super club Crobar. It was the culmination of years of workhorse gigging at almost every club across the Big Apple. But it was more than that too: It was a movement that has shown no signs of fading. Boris (birth name: Boris Inzhin) started moonlighting as a DJ while taking classes at the Institute Of Audio Research in New York. With a metronomic mixing ability and a penchant for expansive, groove-based power-house music, the jock quickly found work both in DJ and production booths, playing at clubs like Exit, and Roxy, and remixing artists like Janet Jackson, Jewel and Gloria Estefan. In 2002, his mix of Pinks Get This Party Started hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot Club Play chart. His relentless approach to bring his cult of followers the best sound and experience possible has taken his production to even greater heights. Powerhouse industry labels like *69 Records, and Stereo Productions have wasted no time in signing Boris projects to their labels. Dancefloor missiles like "Automatic," "Everybody Tweakin'," "Lights Go Out," and Lisa Pure's "Movin On" have been embraced by a culture of beat aficionados, in and out of the many clubs DJ Boris has grown to call home. And if home is where your heart is then Boris must be endowed with a heart the size of North America. His movement has rewarded him with residencies in every major city. Now a regular on the citys club circuit, the name of Boris started to become associated with unapologetically massive music: big drums, big riffs, huge build-ups and lots of energy. Propelled by the promise of a great party experience and by a growing affection for the approachable DJ and his humble manner, his crowd swelled. By the time Boris debuted at mega club Crobar in May 2004, his faithful numbered in the thousands, united under a spontaneously created banner: Believe in Boris. Boys stamped it on their T-shirts in masking tape, girls Sharpied it on their flesh, and eventually Crobar flashed it on their video screens: A battle cry for a clubbers revolution. While at Crobar, Boris set the 30,000-square-foot clubs attendance record (a swinging-from-the-rafters 5,400), released his first mixed compilation (aptly titled Believe), and started to gig regularly outside of NYC, in markets like Miami, and Las Vegas. In 2006, when it became apparent that Crobar would close, Boris uprooted and moved his crowd 20 blocks north to Pacha New York, the first North American branch of the fabled European club brand, without missing a beat. He is still a Pacha resident.Boris faithful service to the clubbers of New York has been rewarded with two Club World Award Best Resident DJ nominations (one while at Crobar, and one while at Pacha), a DJ Times cover story, a top 5 finish in the national Americas Best DJ fan poll, and a new residency at super club Space in Miami. Add this to the already accomplished residencies he holds at Rise in Boston, Therapy in Rhode Island, as well as his regular appearances at Ruby Skye in San Francisco, 960 in Connecticut, Deko Lounge in New Jersey. Hes also become one of the reigning kings of Winter Music Conference week, throwing massive pool parties by day and after-hours marathons by night for thousands of fans. The spoils of success have not halted his enthusiastic work ethic either. His ongoing pursuit to creatively, and musically express himself to those who adore him, has no doubtedly outgrown our own country's limited borders. With his global campaign as New York's premiere DJ underway, believers can be found from all corners of the planet. Venezuala, Colombia, Marrakech, Barcelona, Madrid, Ibizia, London, Montreal, Mexico, and Toronto have all been blessed with his energetically extreme beat orchestration. Boris and his team are currently planning the release of his fourth mixed compilation, and a series of European, and South American dates to compliment his tremendous ability in the studio. So world, New York wants to know: Are you ready to believe in Boris? -The Main Room (House-Progressive-Trance) -The Lobby (Hip Hop-Old School-Rock Mashups) -The Lounge (World Beat) -The Rooftop (House-Chill Out-Sexxy Beats) GLOW – Washington D.C. That says it all. Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones have been hugely important in the history of electronic music. It all started in 1997 with their debut single Sunrise, the first step towards producing their own tracks. Nowadays, one cannot imagine the electronic elite without BLANK & JONES. 13 of their singles made it into the German Top 50, and three into the Top 20. Each and every album hit the Top 50, including two which climbed into the Top 10. They also scored a spectacular triple whammy by occupying the Top Ten album, singles and compilation charts simultaneously with Substance, Desire and The Mix respectively. BLANK & JONES have teamed up with a number of top international stars in their career to date. The Cure mastermind Robert Smith, Anne Clark, Sarah McLachlan and Claudia Brücken (Propaganda) have been immortalized on BLANK & JONES tracks, giving them a certain credibility way beyond the boundaries of dance music. Further evidence of their versatility can be seen in their contributions to the Café del Mar compilation series and their own chill-out albums, Relax and Relax (Edition 2). Next up, the people behind the Buddha Bar series have also made enquiries.. The release of the A Forest single and the accompanying album Monument in the USA last year also laid the foundations for BLANK & JONES to create a solid fanbase across the Atlantic. Seven albums, 3 mix albums (The Mix 1-3) and 15 singles later, BLANK & JONES and their longstanding production collegue Andy Kaufhold have chosen this moment to collate their finest material on one release - The Singles. Comprising the best tracks and greatest successes of BLANK & JONES plus two brand new tracks, recorded exclusively for this album. “We felt the time had come to put all our singles together on one CD, “ Piet and Jaspa explain. “We prefer to see it as one step along the way, rather than a mere retrospective. A litlle breather before we move on to pastures new.“ Over 20 tracks were in the reckoning for The Singles collection, most of them penned by BLANK & JONES themselves. From the first single Sunrise via chart smashes such as Desire, DJ Culture and Beyond Time all the way to entrancing collaborations with the like of Elles DeGraaf on Mind Of The Wonderful, Claudia Brücken on Unknown Treasure and Steve Kilbey (The Church) on Revealed, the album is packed with original material. One of the few covers is, of course, A Forest with Robert Smith of The Cure on vocals. An absolute must for fans is the all new WMC Retouch version of Nightfly, direct from the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC), where BLANK & JONES headlined in March of this year. So new, the track was hot to the touch as it made its way onto the album, having been premiered to rave reactions at the dance convention. BLANK & JONES’ Nightfly WMC Retouch was the talk of the town the following morning on various online sites and blogs. The album also features two completely new tracks. One is Somebody and the other is Catch, the newest single, based on Kosheen’s 1998 tune. Vocals supplied once again by the fantastic Elles DeGraaf. BLANK & JONES have taken the utmost care in getting the sound right. Tracks have been remastered but not remixed. “Our aim was to retain the flair of each original track“ Piet and Jaspa elucidate. “We wanted them to sound just as they did when we made them, but clearer, in the same way as one restores a painting. You don’t paint it from scratch, you just bring out the colours again.“ Such loving attention to detail is typical of BLANK & JONES, making them the artists they are today, ready and able to see the bigger picture. The album is also being released in Limited Edition format, in which The Singles are complemented by an additional DVD, bringing together all BLANK & JONES videos on one disc for the first time. The BLANK & JONES clips are something worth seeing, with a artistic quality rarely seen in such a genre. BLANK & JONES’ dramatic credentials are matched by their sense of humour. Numerous famous names have featured in their videos, including Estella Warren and Til Schweiger in Beyond Time, the latter having also directed the clip. The DVD was produced and designed by Thomas Jahn, renowned as scriptwriter and director of “Knocking On Heaven’s Door“ and also the man responsible for The Hardest Heart, Mind Of The Wonderful, Perfect Silence and Desire. The video for the latest single, Catch, was directed by Conchita Soares and Toni Froschhammer and features the thespian talents of TV actress Nadine. The piece will not only be presented on the music channels, but will also be shown at short film festivals over the summer. BLANK & JONES’ roots are firmly placed in DJ culture. Year after year, millions of ravers around the globe feel the heat of their sensational sets at major events like Mayday, Nature One and Love Parade as well as in clubs all over the world. BLANK & JONES mix DJ and live, making the most of today’s technology. “We do everything digitally, on the basis of Final Scratch, which allows us to use our own edits and mixes, nothing comes straight from tape. Every set we play is unique, not only sound-wise but also in terms of what we play and how we play it. Roughly 60% of our set consists of our own repertoire, as where better to present our own material than via the DJ decks.“ BLANK & JONES are global players in the best sense of the word, with a worldwide reputation to match. They are more than welcome guests at the major festivals and raves in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Russia. At the beginning of the year, they played to 15,000 fans in St. Petersburg! They also travel further afield on a regular basis, to Canada, Mexico, South America and Australia. 2005 saw BLANK & JONES spend a lot of time in the USA, where A Forest proved to be a big success. Electronic music is growing and growing Stateside, so BLANK & JONES will return to LA, San Diego, San Francisco and many more cities in North America this year. Overwhelmingly positive reactions to Catch on the initial instalment of the BLANK & JONES tour mean that the American fans can hardly wait for The Singles to be released. This will be the third BLANK & JONES US album. Not content to rest on their laurels, Piet and Jaspa are already preparing an exciting, new and unusual project. On May 26th, BLANK & JONES will perform together with the Robert Schumann Kammerorchester conducted by Alexander Shelly in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. The definitive electro-classical crossover extravaganza! The Singles will be released worldwide on May 12th on Kontor Records, a milestone for electronic music. Essential listening for BLANK & JONES fans, but also for fans in general who are into dance /house/ electro-. He is re-mastering the obsolete soundtrack of our late analog planet, reassembling from the chaos of smashed bytes blurring our sampled lives a new paradigm of beauty for This Binary Universe . “To marry melody, harmony and memorable songwriting with the most bleeding-edge technology possible is my passion. These are the things that excite me.†The distinct stamp of BT’s virtuoso artistry and craftsmanship is already imprinted across the wide pantheon of modern popular arts and entertainment. He composed the high octane film score for the blockbuster hit The Fast and the Furious as well as the haunting tonal background for Charlize Theron’s Academy Award-winning performance in Monster. His other scores include Doug Liman’s Go, Under Suspicion (starring Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman), Miramax’s The Underclassman, Sony’s Stealth and the video game Tiger Woods Legends. His wizardry of the keyboards, classical or electronic, as well as his producing, songwriting and orchestral composing and scoring talents have been showcased in collaborations with major artists, including Sting and David Bowie. Considered the founding pioneer of trance electronica, he has engineered legendary mixes for Madonna, Seal and Sarah McLachlan. BT seemed fated for his present leadership role in new musical directions and innovations. His predilection for always seeking and ascending to the next level began when he first heard electronic music as an adolescent. “This is what my heroes Debussy, Stravinsky and the like were looking for. Technology-based music is the only idiom that packs such infinite sonic possibilities.†The revolutionary fruits of BT’s musical quest thus far are powerfully evident in the glitched-out yet warmly organic soundscapes infusing his epic albums, IMA, ESCM, Movement In Still Life and Emotional Technology. His fifth, currently untitled, studio album is nearing completion in Los Angeles and Australia (with guest artists such as Stuart Copeland of The Police). His second 2006 creation/release will be This Binary Universe, previewed by Keyboard Magazine : “In a hundred years, it could well be studied as the first major electronic work of the new millennium. It’s that good.†BT’s musical explorations, progressing well ahead of the curve in digital sound composition and programming, necessitated the creation of his own software company, Sonik Architects, in support of his expanding vision. Two new programming applications, Break Tweaker and Stutter Edit, both prototyped by BT himself in cSound and Supercollider (two command line-based music-scripting languages) will be commercially released under the Sonik Architects banner later this year NO line…NO wait…NO problem! (djphilc.com) ABOUT DUBFIRE: In the world of dance music, some artists set musical agendas - others follow. Dubfire has stood firmly in the first camp for his entire career. As one half of electronic music legends, Deep Dish, with studio partner, Sharam Tayebi, Ali 'Dubfire' Shirazinia has won Grammys, released a brace of hit singles, remixed music's biggest names, and rocked the most respected clubs the world over. While taking a creative break from Deep Dish (as he and Sharam both pursue individual projects), Dubfire has moved onto a different trajectory, but one that's very much in keeping with a music obsessive whose record collection spans punk, industrial/new wave, jazz, dub, hip-hop, house, and techno. The aforementioned mix of influences is no more evident than on his single 'I Feel Speed' -- a cover of an overlooked Love & Rockets song -- with Dubfire on vocal duty. A substantial nod to his musical beginnings, 'I Feel Speed' is further proof that artistically, Dubfire isn't afraid to push boundaries, something for which he's been increasingly heralded in 2007. Accolades for Dubfire's productions have flowed thick and fast – from Mixmag (including being asked to mix the magazine's prestigious covermount CD), DJ Mag and Raveline (featured on the cover of both), to IDJ, Groove, Beatportal, Resident Advisor, and many more. And that's just the press. His DJ and producer peers have afforded tracks such as 'Roadkill' and 'RibCage' burgeoning acclaim, in both chart reactions and interviews. Such critically (and commercially) successful productions have served asmonumental openers for Dubfire's new digital-release-only label, Science + Technology Digital Audio (SCI + TEC). Initially formed as the exclusive outlet for Dubfire's solo productions, it will grow to incorporate releases from some of his favourite emerging and recognized artists from around the globe. With distribution and download partners including Beatport, iTunes, and Zebralution, SCI+TEC has quickly established an international reputation as a label that no discerning electronic fan should miss. 2007 also saw the release of his first solo Global Underground mix album, 'Taipei'. If ever a mix compilation exemplified an artist riding the zeitgeist, then 'Taipei' is it. Like a Dubfire live set, the albums deft mix of underground techno and electronica struck a chord with media and music fans alike, and was met with a chorus of approval, resulting in several 'Album Of The Month' reviews and features across a wide range of global media. Asia, Europe, South America, the US, and the Southern Hemisphere – all continents have rocked to Dubfire's superlative DJ skills in the past 12 months. But filling the finest international clubs is one thing, keeping a floor packed for over 9 hours takes only the very best (just ask those lucky clubbers who experienced this at Brazil's Warung earlier this year). And with barely enough time to rest his headphones in January, Dubfire is off on the road again once more; with an ever-present hunger for touring flowing through his veins, 2008's diary is proving to be the busiest yet. On the remix front, re-workings of Nitzer Ebb, Robbie Rivera, Nic Fancuilli, and more, have brought him to the forefront of record boxes the world over. Recent remixes for the likes of Steve Hillage and Mirrette Giraudy's System 7 project, UNKLE, and Smith & Selway, will no doubt further cement his current status as remixer du jour. Dubfire's change in direction has also spawned new creative partnerships, as well as resurrecting old ones: his reworking of Ritchie Hawtin's percussive opus and (beyond) classic 90's track, 'Spastik' (original recorded under Hawtin's Plastikman guise) has been released on M-nus, along with a new production entitled 'Emissions', also featured on the label's recent compilation, 'Expansion-Contraction'. With the success of original productions, his remixes, and extensive tour dates, one thing is abundantly clear: based on the current state of play, Dubfire is one of 2008's most exciting musical visionaries.
