  3. Claude VonStroke does not scowl and look mean while he DJs. He does not pretend to know everything and he will be nice to you and your friends. He is grateful to be doing music for a living and he knows that the reason people go to parties is to have fun. If you want to act cool and not have any fun then please do not book him. The name "Claude VonStroke" was a random joke that caught on after a series of tracks grabbed the attention of underground dance music in 2005. His very first record, "Deep Throat," was an unusually quirky affair that caught fire worldwide and he has been blessed with similar success stories ever since. Claude's real name is Barclay Crenshaw, a guy raised in the suburbs Detroit who wanted to be a filmmaker but always had a knack for music. After several different film careers of varying success and with some help from his friends, VonStroke started the "dirtybird" label at the very late age of 32.
  4. Led X Goldenvoice present... Borgore http://therealborgore.com/ https://www.facebook.com/Borgore https://soundcloud.com/borgore https://twitter.com/Borgore Borgore (Asaf Borger) is an Israeli producer and DJ who in the last few years has pushed and broken the boundaries of dubstep as we know it. Borgore destroys dancefloors with his heavy bass and dirty lyrics that keep his consistently sold out shows in a twerking frenzy of cake and sweat. Borgore knows how to bring out the fun, crazy and wild partier in all of us. Borgore might be one of the craziest live acts in the Edm scene right now, but he’s also known by those close to him as one of the hardest working producers, constantly trying new things and working on fresh music to push the boundaries of his genre even further. He’s been all over the past few years, collaborating with Cedric Gervais, Carnage, Dev, and Waka Flocka. Congorock http://www.congorock.com/ https://www.facebook.com/congorock https://soundcloud.com/congorock https://twitter.com/congorock From underground phenomenon to emerging star of the world’s biggest dance floors: one of the hottest fresh faces of international dance music hails from Italy: Congorock. In only two years, with the single Babylon, the remix of Somebody to Love (Boy George/Mark Ronson), and One (Swedish House Mafia), Rocco Rampino has earned the respect of the most famous names in the game, like David Guetta at the legendary Cocoricò of Riccione where he recently shared the console. The Leccese’s powerful electro-house sound and his tropical deejay sets have gained the support from Afrojack to Diplo, from Tiësto to Benny Benassi, from Martin Solveig to Duck Sauce and the Crookers. Hucci https://www.facebook.com/huccii https://soundcloud.com/hucci https://twitter.com/olliehucci Ollie O’Neill, better known under the alias Hucci is a Brighton-based trap producer and it's hard to believe that one of the UK's freshest is just 18 years young. With a few BBC Radio 1 features under his belt, this up-and-coming DJ is already sharing sound waves with the likes of Diplo, Flosstradamus and Brodinski. Influenced by acts such as Baauer, ScHoolBoy Q, Araabmuzik, and Joey Bada$$, Hucci produces mostly trap and hip-hop tracks. However he creates tracks that break away from generic trap music. Between his seamless transitions, fitting samples, and creative melodies, Hucci has a deep understanding of how to make catchy and unique tracks. Between the club bangers and chill sensual tracks, Hucci is definitely a rising star to watch out for. ___________________________________________________ The Warfield* http://www.thewarfieldtheatre.com/ https://www.facebook.com/warfield https://twitter.com/thewarfield ___________________________________________________ Led: www.myLifeEveryDay.com/ www.facebook.com/LEDpresents www.twitter.com/LEDpresents ___________________________________________________ Goldenvoice: www.goldenvoice.com/norcal www.facebook.com/goldenvoicesf www.twitter.com/goldenvoicesf www.instagram.com/goldenvoicesf
  5. with John Osborn and Keith Kemp Zak aka DVS1(devious one), is one of the most prominent figures in the Midwest/US dance music landscape today. A local DJ favorite since the mid nineties, DVS1 continues to move floors with a combination of deep musical knowledge, unparalleled enthusiasm, and a vinyl collection of more than 10,000 records. Zak's deep roots and his bold and uncompromising nature have won him great respect as a passionate and outspoken defender and promoter (Hush) of quality music. Zak began DJing in New York in the early nineties, focusing on the acid sounds of that time. After relocating to Minneapolis in the mid 90's, his style evolved, like that of techno itself, into something more complex, something deeper and more rhythmic. Since then, he has branched out into a wide variety of sounds—from hard and fast, to deep and hypnotic, to slow and soulful. Rather than giving limiting names to the genres he plays, he describes the music as beats, rhythms, textures, and colors. His philosophy is that the genre distinctions themselves aren't important—the emotional content of the music is. This focus is readily apparent in the way he moves crowds—both literally and figuratively—by fusing together sounds that paint coherent, evocative, and powerful moods that are always appropriate for the time and place he is playing. His range and emotional focus explains why as a DJ, Zak has garnered unique respect locally, around the U.S., and now worldwide. A consummate performer, Zak never maps out his sets ahead of time, opting to craft sets spontaneously from within the context they are intended for. He does this the old-fashioned way—with bags of wax carefully assembled from his massive record collection. This improvisational element makes each of his sets a one-of-a-kind personal expression, never again to be repeated, in which the audience's mood and energy level always plays a notable role. Unsurprisingly, DVS1's sets tend to draw large and enthusiastic crowds. In the past, he has shared the booth and been asked to open for some of the world's most acclaimed DJ/Producers. As a producer, DVS1 makes music that is simple, effective and captures the feeling of the moment. DVS1's first release, on Ben Klocks label Klockworks (kw05) was released in August 2009 and was immediately charted by heavy weights such as Derrick May, Samuel Sessions, Luke Slater, James Ruskin, Stephan Goldman, Funktion, Dj Deep, Tommy Four Seven, Tamo Sumo, Martin Landsky, Efdemin, Dustin Zahn, Dario Zenker, Ryan Elliot, Insideout, Jonass Kopp, Par Grindvik, Marcel Fengler, Kevin Gormann, Tobi Neumann, Monika Kruse, Dos Santos, Kevin Saunderson, Mike Shannon, Ben Klock, Rejected, Camea. With his second vinyl release on the legendary Transmat label(MS98 Love Under Pressure Ep) DVS1 once again stakes his claim and cements his position among current electronic music tastemakers. Similar to his first release, Love Under Pressure has been received with equal acclaim and charting from his peers. The track "Pressure" was licensed to the infamous Berghain club for Ben Klocks most recent mix CD (Berghain 04).
  6. with Chris Clouse and Face Drugs Ability, originality and accomplishment. In Michael Woods‘ short career he has managed to touch on every cornerstone, leaving proof of his musical competence at producing big room, progressive and tech-house tracks, along with a discernible motivation to better the quality of music being distributed. This has not gone unnoticed with DJs like Pete Tong consistently throwing props his way.
  7. with Tim Green It’s fair to say that Pete Tong’s history is intertwined with the history of acid house and electronic music itself. His career mirrors the story of dance music over the last 25 years. It’s been a long, tumultuous ride for Pete. “I left school at the end of the 1970s and always wanted to be a DJ,†he starts, “To make a name for yourself back then you had to have the coolest and rarest records – if you managed to get hold of the hottest tune in the record shop, it could be months before any other DJ managed to track down a copy; your status and ability to call a tune in the underground record stores was very important, it’s hard to conceive that today with the instant access available online.â€
  8. Fresh off NYC and LA, Edu Imbernon lands at RISE in the midst of his North and South American tour. This DJ from Valencia, Spain is indeed a road warrior. He's been racking up frequent flyer miles ever since Beatport dubbed his "El Baile Alemán" the "Best Underground Track of the Year." Boston-based talent Chris Micali opens, an accomplished producer in his own right since the mid-nineties and owner of Commonwealth Recordings. words: Sarah Ikerd
  9. The UK's queen of hard dance Lisa Lashes kicks off the month of May high-octane at RISE, and her message to you is: "Expect the unexpected." She's best known for hard house and tech trance infused with breakbeats AND breaking the DJ MAG Top 10 list - not an easy feat. In a recent interview she said: "You know if you come to a club that I'm playing that I'll give you a good time." Come see what it's all about. words: Sarah Ikerd
  10. Salted ’s “ All Vinyl, All Night †event was a hit! 11. with Claude VonStroke and special guests J. Philp, Christian Martin and Worthy Claude VonStroke does not scowl and look mean while he DJs. He does not pretend to know everything and he will be nice to you and your friends. He is grateful to be doing music for a living and he knows that the reason people go to parties is to shake their ass and have fun. If you want to act cool and not have any fun then please do not book him. VonStroke created dirtybird records in 2005 and has been running everything from A&R to daily operations ever since. The name “Claude VonStroke†was a joke that caught on after he released a series of quirky tracks under the moniker in order to help kick start the dirtybird label. His very first record, “Deep Throat,†used a strange vocal sound effect as percussion to make a sleeper hit selling tens of thousands of copies. The follow-up track, “Who’s Afraid of Detroit?†was the catalyst that changed his career from bedroom producer to touring DJ. He has been blessed with similar success stories ever since. Hosted Russian Standard Vodka bar from 9-10pm + $5 Russian Standard cocktails all night!

  16. When Lady Gaga was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy's arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton. And, she would innocently greet a new babysitter in nothing but her birthday suit. It's no wonder that little girl from a good Italian New York family, turned into the exhibitionist, multi-talented singer-songwriter with a flair for theatrics that she is today: Lady GaGa. "I was always an entertainer. I was a ham as a little girl and I'm a ham today," says Lady GaGa, 22, who made a name for herself on the Lower East Side club scene with the infectious dance-pop party song "Beautiful Dirty Rich," and wild, theatrical, and often tongue-in-cheek "shock art" performances where GaGa - who designs and makes many of her stage outfits would strip down to her hand-crafted hot pants and bikini top, light cans of hairspray on fire, and strike a pose as a disco ball lowered from the ceiling to the orchestral sounds of A Clockwork Orange. "I always loved rock and pop and theater. When I discovered Queen and David Bowie is when it really came together for me and I realized I could do all three," says Gaga, who nicked her name from Queen's song "Radio Gaga" and who cites rock star girlfriends, Peggy Bundy, and Donatella Versace as her fashion icons. "I look at those artists as icons in art. It's not just about the music. It's about the performance, the attitude, the look; it's everything. And, that is where I live as an artist and that is what I want to accomplish." That goal might seem lofty, but consider the artist: Gaga is the girl who at age 4 learned piano by ear. By age 13, she had written her first piano ballad. At 14, she played open mike nights at clubs such as New York's the Bitter End by night and was teased for her quirky, eccentric style by her Convent of the Sacred Heart School (the Manhattan private school Nicky and Paris Hilton attended) classmates by day. At age 17, she became was one of 20 kids in the world to get early admission to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Signed by her 20th birthday and writing songs for other artists (such as the Pussycat Dolls, and has been asked to write for a series of Interscope artists) before her debut album was even released, Lady GaGa has earned the right to reach for the sky. "My goal as an artist is to funnel a pop record to a world in a very interesting way," says GaGa, who wrote all of her lyrics, all of her melodies, and played most of the synth work on her album, The Fame (Streamline/Interscope/KonLive). "I almost want to trick people into hanging with something that is really cool with a pop song. It's almost like the spoonful of sugar and I'm the medicine." On The Fame, it's as if Gaga took two parts dance-pop, one part electro-pop, and one part rock with a splash of disco and burlesque and generously poured it into the figurative martini glasses of the world in an effort to get everyone drunk with her Fame. "The Fame is about how anyone can feel famous," she explains. "Pop culture is art. It doesn't make you cool to hate pop culture, so I embraced it and you hear it all over The Fame. But, it's a sharable fame. I want to invite you all to the party. I want people to feel a part of this lifestyle." The CD's opener and first single, "Just Dance," gets the dance floor rocking with it's "fun, L.A., celebratory vibe." As for the equally catchy, "Boys Boys Boys," Gaga doesn't mind wearing her influences on her sleeve. "I wanted to write the female version of Motley Crue's 'Girls Girls Girls,' but with my own twist. I wanted to write a pop song that rockers would like." "Beautiful Dirty Rich" sums up her time of self-discovery, living in the Lower East Side and dabbling in drugs and the party scene. "That time, and that song, was just me trying to figure things out," says GaGa. "Once I grabbed the reigns of my artistry, I fell in love with that more than I did with the party life." On first listen, "Paparazzi" might come off as a love song to cameras, and in all honestly, GaGa jokes "on one level it IS about wooing the paparazzi and wanting fame. But, it's not to be taken completely seriously. It's about everyone's obsession with that idea. But, it's also about wanting a guy to love you and the struggle of whether you can have success or love or both." Gaga shows her passion for love songs on such softer tracks as the Queen-influenced "Brown Eyes" and the sweet kiss-off break-up song "Nothing I can Say (eh eh)." "'Brown Eyes' is the most vulnerable song on the album," she explains. "'Eh Eh' is my simple pop song about finding someone new and breaking up with the old boyfriend." For the new tour for this album, fans will be treated to a more polished version of what they saw (and loved) at her critically acclaimed Lollapalooza show in August 2007 and Winter Music Conference performance in March 2008. "This new show is the couture version of my handmade downtown performance of the past few years. It's more fine-tuned, but some of my favorite elements to my past shows - the disco balls, hot pants, sequin, and stilettos - will still be there. Just more fierce and more of a conceptual show with a vision for pop performance art." It's been a while since a new pop artist has made her way in the music industry the old-fashioned/grass roots way by paying her dues with seedy club gigs and self-promotion. This is one rising pop star who hasn't been plucked from a model casting call, born into a famous family, won a reality TV singing contest, or emerged from a teen cable TV sitcom. "I did this the way you are supposed to. I played every club in New York City and I bombed in every club and then killed it in every club and I found myself as an artist. I learned how to survive as an artist, get real, and how to fail and then figure out who I was as singer and performer. And, I worked hard." Gaga adds with a wink in her eye, "And, now, I'm just trying to change the world one sequin at a time." ~AXS

The royal celebrations were first held on 31 August 1885 in honour of the birth of Queen Wilhelmina, and the Queen’s Day (Koninginnedag) tradition was born. After Wilhelmina’s daughter (Juliana) succeeded to the throne in 1949, the day was changed to 30 April in accordance with the new Queen's birthday. When she became queen, the now Princess Beatrix chose to retain the day in honour of her mother but as of 2014, King’s Day will officially be celebrated on 27 April (the king’s birthday). However, the event is traditionally not celebrated on a Sunday which means that the first King's Night is the start of the weekend activities on Friday April 25.

  21. Currently residing in New York City, Three has been tirelessly holding the flag for underground electronic music in the US since his rise out of the sunny state of Florida in the early 90's. In that time, he's emerged as one of the brightest DJ talents in the US and continues to be a true inspiration for many of us. Three's tour dates show both diversity in audience and a genre-bending passion for good music; he's held residencies at NYC's Twilo, Cielo (Robots), Love and Blk Market Membership, as well as Florida's legendary Simon's while playing lauded guest spots at San Francisco's Wicked party, Fabric (UK), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Blk Market Membership (NYC) and forward thinking events like Japan's Labyrinth Festival and Australia's Rainbow Serpent. Three's label Hallucination Limited was started in 2003 by Three as an off-shoot of the seminal US 90's label Hallucination Recordings which was founded by dance music legends Rabbit In The Moon. Hallucination Recordings was responsible for some of the freshest techno (licensing the Hazed - Bells EP to Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 label in '94), proper electro (miami bass legends Dynamix 2 and Jackal & Hyde) and benchmark releases like Second Hand Satellites - Multiple Mirrors EP (produced by Three and Sean Q6). Armed with a sound that borrows equally from vintage acid-house, techno and underground electronica Hallucination Limited is held in the highest regard getting attention from a wider audience than most most reach. One of the ethos of Hallucination has always been to release music that years later that is still relevant and feels timeless. A perfect example of this is Cassy's Circo Loco mix CD for the July 2011 issue of Mixmag... which contains no less than five tracks from the label catalog! Three's eclectic taste as a DJ and producer shine through just as brightly in his choices for the label. Following the path of his appeal as a DJ, his rare forays into producing have become staples for DJs of all styles. Three's remix of Mish Mash feat. Lois - 'Speechless' (Lost in Translation mix) for heavyweight UK label Crosstown Rebels received praise across the board including "pick of the month" in the 15 year anniversary issue of DJ Magazine while other productions such as the underground staple that is Second-Hand Satellites and remixes as Three A.M. (with David Christophere of Rabbit In The Moon) like U.N.K.L.E. feat. Ian Brown - 'Reign' continue to be played on dance floors around the world from DJs as diverse as Harvey, Ricardo Villalobos and Lee Burridge. Coming from the school of American DJs like Josh Wink and Doc Martin, Three has a wide ranging musical palate akin to Andrew Weatherall or Laurent Garnier, and was recently featured as part of DJ Times Magazine's DJX20 Anniversary profile series as one of twenty DJs who embody the spirit of the American underground along such contemporaries as Josh Wink and Claude Von Stroke. Aside from his natural ability on the decks, Three sets himself apart from the rest of the pack by presenting eclectic sounds with an open-minded attitude towards everything he does. From DJ sets to musical output, Three is a "DJ's DJ" who has always leaned toward the cutting edge without losing touch with the roots of house and techno.
