  10. ?im in miami bitch??well?they will be in dc bitches!! while searching for a name for his rap group, sky blu sent an ichat message to his grandmother seeking her opinion. her reply: lmfao. sky blu knew his and his partner-in-rhyme redfoo?s search for a name was over. ?when we told people our name was lmfao, everybody loved it,? redfoo says of the duo?s moniker, which is an abbreviation for laughing my f~~king ass off. ?we knew that that was the name.? already accomplished djs on the los angeles party scene with musical aspirations, sky blu and redfoo attended the 2007 winter music conference in miami. the trip was a pivotal one, as the non-stop partying and feel-good vibe they experienced in the florida locale solidified their musical and creative direction. lmfao recorded their ?i?m in miami bitch? song, decided on a signature look -- wearing loud colors, sporting glasses with no lenses -- and maintaining a contagiously positive outlook. ?we came back to la and we were still in the miami vibe,? redfoo says. ?we couldn?t get out of the miami vibe, so we were wearing shorts. there were a couple of cold days where it dropped down to 55, 60 degrees and people were like, ?why are you wearing shorts? it?s cold.? we were like, ?we?re in a miami state of mind.? it?s an energy that we want to live in.? that energy has translated in lmfao being one of music?s most popular emerging acts on the independent scene. sky blu (his given name is sky and the sky is blu, after all) and redfoo (the red symbolizes his passion, and he acts a foo) make music that straddles genres (rap, electro, club) and always results in a good time. such was the case with the group?s itunes-released party rock ep. consisting of the duo?s most popular songs (they?ve enjoyed more than 2 million plays on their myspace page, myspace.com/lmfaouno), party rock serves as an appetizer for their forthcoming debut full-length album. the atmospheric ?la la la? celebrates the top-of-the-world feeling people experience with a new love, while the humorous ?i am not a whore? features lmfao slyly examining their envious space on the club scene. the propulsive ?lil? hipster girl? details the young ladies they encounter while partying and ?yes? is an inspirational anthem wrapped in an electro package. although lmfao focuses on a good time, they are also very business savvy. they always sport one of their own shirts, they tour constantly, they maintain a constant myspace and youtube presence and they remain the life of the party. raised on los angeles? west side (sky blu is redfoo?s nephew), the pair looks forward to achieving their hedonic objective. ?we want to make the earth a party planet,? sky blu says. ?our goal is to package this energy up and to spread it all over the world,? redfoo adds. ?we want to infect the world with this fun, upbeat stuff. we?re like the jackson two. we?re trying to be the biggest we can, but with our own sound.? and that?s no laughing matter.
  11. Massive 4th of july glow indepen-dance bash! -arrive early to ensure entry!! steve lawler bio: forward thinking, groundbreaking, precedent setting: not just the true essence of progression, but an apt way to begin a biography on the world renowned dj/producer steve lawler. that?s progression, not to be mistaken with the term progressive, music steve lawler?s often been associated with. lawler is much more than a progressive house dj. a child of the acid house generation, he?s been busy with the beats long before genres were but a twinkle in clubland?s eye. an electronic artist who defies generic boundaries, ever since his days organising the infamous motorway raves under the m42, lawler?s set his own agenda, following his natural musical instinct behind the decks and in the studio. 2008 has been the best example of this; after 17 years of hard graft, more people are beginning to take note of lawler than ever. one glance at his recent releases suggests as much. ?21st century ketchup? on ali dubfire?s much lauded sci+tec was a run away success at the 2008 miami winter music conference, ?femme fatale? on josh wink?s legendary ovum was one of the summer?s heaviest hitters. and they?re just a small sample of what?s fast becoming one seriously prolific pie with releases on tsuba, drumcode, systematic, tanzbar, boxersport, mbf and r&s all primed and focussed squarely on the dancefloor. ?horses for courses?, released on renaissance in 2007, is a fine example of steve?s recent work; a dark rumbling romp, (it?s about as progressive as jelly and ice cream). his tracks with audiofly and dino lenny as slaaf and sladly are a similar affair with discerning acclaim coming from the dancefloor, djs and music press alike. viva music, steve?s label, has been key to this progression. his days heading the much-missed harlem records have paid priceless experience; steve knew exactly what he wanted from viva from the off. embracing the power of digital distribution and forming strong links with the mp3 powerhouse beatport, he?s in the previously unheard-of position to only sign a track if he ?thinks it?s the bollocks?. those are his very words ? focussed and passionate about his music, he doesn?t even care if it sells. luckily it does sell, with each release receiving heavy patronage by techno luminaries such as laurent garnier and carl craig. with viva came responsibilities such as promotion and adept a&r, both of which he?s excelled at; his viva launch nights at pure pacha will go down in the venue?s illustrious history, his viva tour has taken him across every continent and every festival worth knowing. as for a&r, just ask artists like simon baker, audiofly, presslaboys, bearweasal and livio & roby and they?ll tell you all about the support, encouragement and opportunities lawler has given them. viva works as a culmination of everything that?s gone before; from the aforementioned illegal raves, to his residency at super club cream or the ibizan schooling where he famously played eight hour sets at café mambo seven days a week. he?s remixed high profile artists such as jamelia, dido and justin timberlake and worked with world renowned dance imprints global underground, renaissance and bedrock. he?s released some of the scene?s most collectable mix series such as the ?dark drums? ?lights out? and, most recently, the ?viva? series. now on its second release, the ?viva? series has revealed steve?s widescreen vision better than any mix before with down tempo and deep house playing a big part in the beat blend. needless to say, the tours supporting such releases have taken him to every corner of the globe from new york to new zealand. heralded as king of space by ibizan locals, fans and industry peers steve held a triumphant residency for seven years at the balearic super club (a club he returned to in 2008). his viva harlem nights events, be they at the end or on tour, consistently sell out and his residency at london?s home club was one of the infamous venue?s only success stories. he?s even been headhunted by horror film director iain softly to make the theme tune to the 2005 movie skeleton key. yes, steve's seen it all and experienced everything club culture can throw at him, from mistaken identity to scary stalkers... he's even been held at knifepoint in a dark alley behind a mexican club for not playing a request! it's these years of hard sonic graft, however, that have fine-tuned his understanding of electronic music and its relationship with the dancefloor. now, armed with his experience and understanding of the intricacies of dance music and the drama that lies within, steve enters the most exciting stage of his career. no longer seen as just a progressive dj, he?s the happiest he?s ever been, both as a dj and in the studio, working more prolifically and diligently than ever before. the summer is spent jet setting around the world?s finest clubs from watergate to womb, performing to thousands of revellers at every party, while the winter sees him retire to the studio making the music he wants to make. not what people expect of him. dynamic, driven and drastically obsessed with performing as well as he possibly can. steve?s passion for house, techno and electronica is too strong for one simple generic association, and right now his message is louder than ever. 17 years deep and steve lawler isn?t just at the top of his game, he?s pushing the boundaries of what a dj can do ? both technically and creatively ? as an artist and as a successful label businessman. now that?s progression. tiefschwarz bio: ali and basti schwarz - brothers and music lovers, created tiefschwarz out of a passion garnered since 1990 from their first experiences as djs at the now legendary clubs that ali ran in stuttgart "on -u" (1990 - 1993) and "red dog" (1993 - 1997). these experiences and their obsession with the music they were hearing from within and across the german border, encouraged them to make the step from dj to producer. in 1996 tiefschwarz was created and they began working together with acclaimed producer peter hoff in stuttgart. after a few remixes, their first single "music" was released in 1998 on benztown and "wave music" ny. the success of the single motivated tiefschwarz to record their debut album "ral 9005" which came out on four music in 2000. "ral 9005" was then seized upon by derrick carter & luke solomon for their classic recordings label in the uk in 2002. the album and the subsequent 4 singles (thru a little window, hello again, never, nix) were received enthusiastically by both the english and international press, not to mention a growing fan base of music aficionados. in 2002 classic also released ali & basti's mix album "a little help for your friends" and their djing career reached new heights with tours in australia, the usa as well as gigs as far afield as brazil and russia 2003 saw the brothers up sticks and move to the creative capital of berlin where they set up a new studio along with new producer & friend, jochen schmalbach. continuing their burgeoning career as remixers (with previous greats such as their reworks of masters at work, ultra naté, boogie solitaire, freaks, isolee, groove armada) ali and basti went on to remix the likes of the rapture, cassius, spektrum, micatone, lost & alive, lopazz, osunlade, minimal compact, trüby trio, dj hell, kelis, and missy elliott. their last single on classic; "nix" was the grand finale to a very special relationship and from there they joined and helped create 'fine records' in london (a division of four music, their former label in germany). the first single was 'ghost track' accompanied by a black strobe remix followed by their fantastic 'misch masch' album which not only showcased their talent as djs but also their remixing prowess on a double cd release. the majority of 2004 and 2005 was spent juggling a high profile djing career, whilst writing and producing their second and long awaited album 'eat books'. the first single from the album 'isst was released in 2005 and was voted one of the best singles of the year by trax and dj magazine. after that came 'wait and see' with vocals by chikinki, morning siren' with vocals by matt b.safer from the rapture followed by 'fly' with a steve bug remix and then 'damage' with tracey thorn and accompanied by a brilliant mandy remix. 2006 was a big year for remixes, amongst other things. three high profile mixes of depeche mode 'john the revelator', madonna's 'get together', roxy music's 'rain rain rain' and booka shade's 'darko'. additionally, they released 2 mix albums - one for the outstanding fabric series and the other in conjunction with the time warp festival in germany. 2006 was also the year that tiefschwarz began their own label - souvenir. the project that ali & basti had excitedly planned for years with old friend arthur velasquez, finally came to fruition. the first release of course was a tiefschwarz track called 'hey', under a different moniker of 'ichundu' which prompted fellow djs and the press to conclude that tiefschwarz were once again at the top of their league. the label has also carved itself a definitive position in the dance record industry of today by offering a continuous release of stand out tracks from artists such as phonique, riton, tom mangan, ziggy kinder, ruede hagglestein and the psychonauts. www.souvenir-music.com & www.myspace.com/souvenirberlin.

  20. *limited tickets available* *arrive early to ensure entry* for tables call fur nightclub at 202-445-4926 bio: there are few djs in the world that create the reaction that david guetta sparks. whether it?s 50,000 fans singing along to his hit records at the recent massive stade de france stadium unighted über-party, or dark rooms of clubbers locked in the groove nine hours into his set, guetta gets passions flowing. that?s because he uniquely and boldly treads a tightrope most djs wouldn?t dare to traverse: the line between being an underground dj and having huge crossover success. that might not sound like two worlds that go together, but david flits between french prime-time tv appearances, deep sets at space miami and producing music that appeals to clubbers and also way beyond with apparent ease. that he won a world music award and was voted the best house dj in the djmag top 100 in the same year is a credit to his ability to work in both of these seemingly disparate worlds. ?i?m not trying to be credible,? david admits with a smile broadening across his soft, open face. ?i?m trying to be incredible. it?s very easy to be underground because you just have to obey a set of codes. it?s very formulaic. but it?s also very easy to be totally pop, because it?s very formulaic too. i?m trying to do something different.? and it?s working. with dj sets at hundreds of the coolest clubs each year and record sales clocking in at more than three million singles and almost 2 million albums ? half a million of which are for his latest artist long player ?pop life? ? it?s clear that his own path is a fruitful one. a huge star in france for over a decade, david is following that success worldwide. in america for example all of ?pop life?s singles smashed into the billboard dance airplay top ten and love is gone refused to leave the no.1 spot on itunes dance usa for three months - while the album went gold in multiple territories across europe. guetta is also the most requested artist for summer compilations on the whole of emi. with around 50 million hits on youtube (and climbing fast), david is as popular outside of nightclubs as he is in them. in fact, david?s video?s hold the number 1 and no 3 spots in the most watched electronica clips on youtube ? worldwide and of all time! this summer has seen guetta play to an incredible array of people, calling in at love parade, bahia carnival, queensday, techno parade and global gathering. that adds up to around 4,500,000 dancers before you even count the club gigs or the pacha ibiza residency! it?s such a buzz playing to big crowds, but he?s never out of a club for too long. ?at the brazil carnival i spun to two million people and i've played to up to 200,000 a few times,? he says with pride but without arrogance. ?it feels very good, of course, because of the energy you receive from the people. at first i wanted to play only to the biggest crowds possible, because it's like a drug. now i balance the big shows with more intimate club gigs were i can play more new sounds. the big venues are great but sometimes playing to so many people forces you to repeat the same tricks.? that explains a lot about david guetta. he?s wants to entertain as many people as possible ? show everyone a great time ? but never at the expense of being a dj. of all the parts of his renaissance life it?s this that is key ? he?s a dj first, everything else follows. one of his favourite gigs was during his phenomenal us tour. after playing three hours of his biggest and best at crobar miami he dived over to space to go deep for another six hours. ?playing those two gigs was like the two basics of djing,? he explains, ?the raw energy of super dynamic mixes and party tracks for crobar, and taking people on a trip with long, deep mixes at space.? it?s not uncommon for david to stay on the decks after he?s thrown down his big party set so he can play all the other records that he adores. after a couple of hours of big drops, singalongs, arms in the air, screaming and accapellas being sliced and diced, he?s got the crowd where he wants them and for the next one, two, three hours he?s going to take them on a groove. ?and that?s the part i love most!? he laughs. to see guetta wind a room into a frenzy is something special. with an unrivalled connection to the crowd he?ll direct them like a puppet-master, driving their hands in the air as he works cdjs, eqs and effects in a way that sounds more like someone using ableton. that?s something that has escaped a lot of people: technically david is one of the most impressive djs in the house scene. almost remixing records live, he makes loops, slams tracks together that you?d never think would go and uses vocals over other instrumentals. his sets are so dynamic that at times it?s difficult to see how he can keep the energy up. to put it simply, guetta creates moments. and that?s why when you look out over one of his crowds you see smiles and hands shaped into heart signs. when you give people a night to remember they love you for it. those who know guetta from his radio records are often surprised by his dj sets and where he?s found after dark. any preconceptions that he plays pop are quickly misplaced. he?s as likely to be at il murretto, space ibiza or cocoon and yet is equally at home at pacha where he hosts f*** me i?m famous parties. the fabulous name is, of course, ironic and the events themselves are a great melting pot ? his wife and co-promoter cathy inviting the beautiful people while david throws his hard-core clubbers into the mix. it?s a return to the early melting pot of 80s ibiza, which is perhaps why the pacha residency this season has been such a huge success. ?the original idea was to have people who don?t normally mix,? david explains. ?my wife brings the glamorous crowd, i bring the crazies. it?s about being inclusive but giving something exclusive at the same time.? ?maybe it?s because i?m french that i like a bit of glamour,? he says. ?it?s part of my world. i like that people are bringing something to the party by dressing up. i like to be sexy, for me it?s more about the sexiness than the money.? and that?s the thing about guetta, he?s really not about the cash, or the glamour or the pop star life. a much softer, more emotional and easy going man some of the press want him to be. he doesn?t want to dazzle people, he wants to touch them. ?everything i?m trying to do ? in my djing, my production ? is about sharing emotion. when i?m making music in the studio that?s all i?m looking for. it?s what matters the most. i?m just a nice person really, you know!? nice, yes. and passionate and real. the media wants to stick him in a convenient box as a glamorous star, but guetta refuses to slot into any pigeonhole ? except maybe one: dj. no line?no wait?no problem **purchase advanced tickets** www.clubglow.com
