  3. Like many icons in the music industry, Sahar Z, knew from the very beginning that he would pursue a successful career in the music industry. Growing up in his native Jerusalem, Sahar Z. began playing the piano at a very young age, cementing a foundation which was to launch his passion for all kinds of music. Later, influenced by the radio hits of classic bands he began his DJ career at school parties. At the age of 17, he played at the Pythagoras club in Jerusalem. Embracing the 80s decade by spinning commercial classics, retro beats and hip hop. Over the next 3 years Sahar Z. played at several underground clubs, both in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv before officially becoming the resident DJ of the Haoman 17, the biggest and most prestigious club in Israel. Haoman 17 and Beyond In the beginning of his residency at the Jerusalem club Haoman 17, Dj Sahar Z. had yet to find his own direction and while he experimented with a variety of musical styles, he still fell back on the sounds of club trance that were flooding the clubs and charts. In the summer of 97, the Haoman 17 closed for a season. Fueled by a desire to travel and expand his horizons, both personally and professionally, Sahar Z. moved to New York City. During that summer, Sahar Z and some close friends threw a series of private parties in a Broadway loft. These parties were increasingly successful by the 4th and final party of the series, a crowd of 800 people enjoyed his original beats, amongst the people impressed with DJ Sahar Zs performance that night was the promoter of the infamous Tunnel whom after hearing him spin what was to become his defining style-a unique, undergound blend of sounds from funky to progressive house tipped with trance all the way to deep techno- invited him to play in the Tunnel promptly after. Ever since, Sahar Z has headlined with many international DJs, including European names as Dimitri, Francois K and Tiesto, UK big shots as Terry Francis, Sasha, Craig Richards and Dave Angel, canadian virtuosos like DJs John Acquaviva and Plastikman, as well as american talents in the likes of Derrick May, Josh Wink, Kevin Saunderson and Deep Dish who quoted in their album YOSHIESQUE 2: DJ Sahar Z. The best kept secret of the middle east. Sahar's talent and style speaks for itself and after playing with Dimitri and Marcello he was invited to play at both the Roxy and theChemistry in Amsterdam. The dutch crowd responded with so much enthusiasm to his sets that he has since returned to play there many times. Sahar Z. also appeared on the dutch MTV program The DJs which features a live club cross showcasing fresh, young European DJ talents to the Dutch audiences. After many successful venues he was invited for several reappearances. Style & Direction Not limited by any genre or style, Sahar Zs influences come from many directions. He travels to New York, London and Amsterdam regularly to stock up on fresh vinyl and to absorb the many facets of other cultural identities that influence him, this is strongly reflected in his music, which blends tracks from all corners of the world in a smooth, sensual funky groove. His versatile style is evident when listening to him spin, never playing the same set, Sahar Zs unique sound transports the crowd through a journey of atmospheres and moods from deeply melodic sounds, originating in legendary clubs as the Roxy in the Netherlands and fresh electronica brought to new levels by DJ. producers talent such as Deep Dish and Sasha, to the harder yet soulful techno edges showcased by the likes of John Acquaviva and Richie Hawtin (AKA Plastikman). I could never be one of those DJs who just walk in after the crowd is already up, play the same 2-hour set I played at the club before and walk out thinking that was the best I could give. I love nothing more than to work the crowd and play the whole night Because, if the crowd is having a great time so am I. While Sahar Z. is one of Israels busiest DJs and most highly-sought after, he chooses to work for only the venues and parties which are of the highest standard. Sahar Z plays two regular venues -one being his residency on Thursdays at the Haoman 17, the other being Monday nights at a selected dance bar in Tel-Aviv. Quality is extremely important to me. The sound, the venue and most importantly the people are all essential elements in creating the right energy... The Haoman 17 released two club compilation albums. As resident, DJ Sahar Z worked on the editing, the mixing and the production of these albums which both gained unprecedented success selling almost 10,000 and 5,000 copies nationwide respectively, after quickly reaching platinum in the Israeli charts. What does the Future Hold Sahar Zs immediate goals for the future are simply- to continue developing and fine-tuning his own signature style. Knowing his ability to bring what is fresh and cutting-edge to the fore and keeping in mind how passionate he is about his craft, it is easy to see why Sahar Z has a keen desire to produce his own music. Joining forces in the past with Guy Gerber, in a musical project they jointly released Kennys Back which was signed by Whoop Records and was played by the big names such as Sasha, Digweed, Seaman amongst many others. Choosing never to tread the path of mediocrity, Sahar Z has emerged as Israels finest DJ Talents, winning for three consecutive years the DJ of the year award, sponsored by DJ Ha Ir(israels most popular music magazine). With his distinctive flair for blending deep soulful melodies with raw, fresh electronica and his love of truly taking a crowd with him, DJ Sahar Zangilevich has carved a local reputation as an engaging and driven rising star.
