NEW YORK - It's been a year and a day since Enron last reported financial results. And investors are still trying to clear their heads. On Oct. 16, 2001, Enron (otc: ENRNQ - news - people ) revealed a $618 million loss, mostly on a $1.01 billion charge due to the now notorious special purpose entities. Enron traded around $34 that day. It moved south of $30 two days later and never looked up again. The bankrupt energy firm currently trades for 12 cents over the counter. The consequences from the unraveling of Enron continue to ripple throughout the entire market. Both on their own volition and under regulatory requirements, companies have become more forthcoming about special purpose entities, compensation plans and more. Still, over the last year, the Standard and Poor's 500 index has fallen 21.6% to 859.96, just bouncing off a five-year low of 768.58 hit a week ago. Below are the ten S&P 500 companies who were the best and the worst performers during the market swoon. The top ten represent a mix of industries, while all but three of the worst performers are in energy-related businesses. Just in case you were wondering, graphics chipmaker NVIDIA (nasdaq: NVDA - news - people )--the company that replaced Enron on the S&P 500 on Nov. 29, 2001--is down 84% to $8.56 since being added to the index.
