Bertelsmann confirms its past connection to Nazis Tue Oct 8, 2:57 AM ET By Scott Roxborough CANNES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- After four years of research, the complete findings of an independent commission that focuses on the links of Bertelsmann, Germany's global media giant, to Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime and the Third Reich will be unveiled in a book that is due out today in Germany. While some of the company's ties to Hitler and the Third Reich have been revealed previously, new revelations emerged Monday, including that Bertelsmann used Jewish slave laborers in at least one of its printing plants during World War II. The findings of the Independent Historical Commission, headed by historian Saul Friedlaender, will be published in the book "Bertelsmann in the Third Reich," which also reveals that Bertelsmann published propaganda material for Hitler's Nazi regime in the 1930s and '40s, Bertlesmann founder Heinrich Mohn was a member of an SS sponsors organization, and the company published numerous books sympathetic to the Nazi regime. The book also decries as "a legend that can not be sustained" the oft-repeated story by Bertelsmann in official reports on its corporate history that Bertelsmann's closure by the German government in 1944 was because of the company's opposition to Hitler. On Monday, Bertelsmann CEO Gunter Thielen expressed his "sincere regret" for the company's wartime activities and the "inaccuracies ... of our previous corporate history. "This experience has reinforced for us why historical accuracy and transparency must be an integral part of our core values," Thielen added. "As one of the largest media companies in the world, we have a special responsibility to promote openness and public debate on these issues. (This experience) has strengthened our continuing commitment to promote democracy, tolerance and human rights as well as Jewish causes and communities around the world." In addition to thanking the commission for its work, Thielen singled out Swiss journalist Hersch Fischler, whose 1998 article first brought to light the new information about Bertelsmann's wartime record. In response to Thielen's reports, Bertelsmann set up and funded the commission on the understanding that it would be completely independent and have unfettered access to Bertelsmann's records. "Bertelsmann and the Third Reich" is published by Bertelsmann's CBertelsmann imprint, and Bertelsmann-owned Random House will bring out an English translation of the book next year. All proceeds will go to maintaining a corporate archive of the commission's findings. The archive will be based in Munich until March 31, then it will be moved to its permanent location at Bertelsmann headquarters in Guetersloh, Germany. Within a week we thought this was the Second Electronic / Dance Label to close up shop. Kinetic US home to Sasha, Timo Maas, Trendroid, DJ Dan and others is closing one door and opening another. In a statement from the Label: Kinetic Records is no longer getting it's funding from BMG UK, however Kinetic has been picked up by BMG US and will be partnering with another label in the company. As of now that labels name has not been disclosed. Thank you to the staff at Kinetic for giving us the scoop.

Again missing the point Guys. Yes we here in NY and major cities consider a lot of tracks cheesy and way under par. However not all our GREAT dance labels go after middle america and commercial markets. Yes Louie Devito's CD's are not what you like but the kidsthat buys that now will expand his or her tastes. They will evolve but like most they don't get it yet. But I will reiterate this is a bad thing for all electronic and dance labels.

Bured I was on the promotions panel this week for the Billboard Dance Music Summit. And someone their made a comment like yours and I am sorry I do not agree. you are seeing the Tree not the Forrest. If someone like STRICTLY shuts down it is another nail in the coffin of US DANCE. I am just really sad that the people that put out such eternal and memorable tracks like Junior's "If Madonna Calls" is gone. Maybe it's because internally they didn't keep up with the Jone's but still every one here is scared if closing like this start a trend.

Well the fall has begun and the new club season approaches. I have also frequented CP for a good number of years leading up working here the past 12 months. Don't give up hope people. Yes yes so the day that SF was only $10 to get into from 1-4 am is over. But fret not. There is hope for our clubs. You just gotta know where to look. We try our best about letting you all know about events and hooking you up with discounted if not free admissions. So that the "whining" doesn't get too loud. If you can afford to go out 3 nights a week or even one night. It really doesn't matter as long as you had a good time with good people. Some of the best nights in the town are on Sundays free of charge at places like Pangaea, Novacento, Cheetah, Le Souk, etc... I have hope....I just wish people would dress up again. Said it before and I'll say it again... What happened to the fun outfits? I miss Wings and war paint
