  1. well, its kinda late now, but u shouldve gone to centrofly for dance ritual--little louis vega (every week), tonight was also with francois k, of body and soul!! bet it was a fierce party...
  2. yeah, totally...but at the same time i PREFER the IDEA of him actually losing control of the music...letting it spin away into chaos. and then, reaching out and reclaiming it again, pulling it all together. doesnt this tell a much better story, and in fact make him a more active player, than if he did such things intentionally? which is true--well i guess you cant know...
  3. sure, he is a bit of a spoiled bitch--ill admit that. but at the same time, thats business, hunny. and he knows what hes doing. my honest opinon is that he doesnt REALLY think so highly of himself. the man's a leo--he knows what drama is all about. and he knows that if he creates all this drama and allure around him, its gonna attract attention. that attracts dollars that the club makes, and so they build him a booth. check out the NY Post article from last week...club owners are NOT complaining about his booth demands. hes bringing in the dough, and his mystique is part of the reason for this. moreover, its hard for me to believe that junior is REALLY all that pompous and conceited. if you check out other articles on him, youll find hes often complaining about having no one to go home to. imagine how that would feel--hundreds of beautiful men screaming your name and hanging on your every beat in the club, but when you go home--nothing. its gotta be REALLY depressing. drama compensates for this, to a certain extent. and hunnie..."the true vibe"?? dont deny me my preferences in any arena. i think danny has a great vibe, but i happen to prefer the edgy intensity of junior. i keep trying to foster respect, and it just aint happening...argh.
  4. it sounds trite, but there is NO direct relationship b/t money and happiness. ive been rich before...had a trust fund that i could spend however i wanted and i did...and ive been poor--scrounging around the house for pennies and then walking to duane reade b/c i know they have the cheapest cigarettes. i remember the day i found out my money had run out--i was so scared, but something inside told me that this was going to be a VERY good thing for my life, and it has been!! ive had a much more fierce life since ive been poor, for certain. people dont try to take advantage of me now...dont try to date me or be my friend cuz they know im generous. when youre poor you get really resourceful, which feels REALLY good, at least to me. sure, i cant buy an awesome new outfit all the time, and i often go to blu instead of vinyl or party sober, but its all good, and im MUCH happier these days. money? whatevah...its all about attitude and LOVING your life, and what you make of it, essential to which are the people around you.
  5. cummon kids...i remember when i thought that looked SO cool, too. i mean, i still kinda think it looks neat (when i dont want to beat them up for carrying around those fuckin annoying glowsticks). apollon4 is probably very new to clubbing and is getting very excited about all the new experiences...which is a hell of a lot cooler than being all old and jaded, dontcha think??!! hmm...maybe i can suck some of that newbie energy and enthusiasm. woohaha...
  6. theres a nice contingent of us actively trying to NOT do this...fighting each other and ourselves. but im sure u know it aint always easy. that damn animal just rips her way thru sometimes.
  7. i must say id love to see the day when gay and straight are just partying away together, mutual respect and all...i hear things used to be more this way, before the aids epidemic when all the straight people got scared of hanging out with us. maybe some of that is subsiding. id say that danny is a great mixed party. i tend to think that junior will always speak more to gay people, but i cant speak from a straight perspective--so if youre really feelin it, i wanna see you there til the end!!! going out is a personal experience, and we all take what we will from it. im realizing that everyone experiences stuff differently and that theres no prescribed experiential formula or necessarily clear-cut rules of intention. im there because of something very specific that junior does for me...and i expect that to change over time, even. for me, junior speaks to the gay experience quite specifically. in that way he gives me something i need. if straight people are getting something different, and its real for them, WOO HOO! then it just shows on how many different levels junyah werks...
  8. ARGH. danny's fierce; junior's fierce. their fierceness manifests itself differently and hence attracts different people. no, i wouldnt even say each attracts a different crowd--theres a HUGE crossover b/t Be Yourself and junior's parties...i love them both, both have their comparative merits. moreover, i think they both do similar things as far as creating culture, etc. they have SO many similarities, and SO MANY differences...hence the famous feud. but thats not our concern. i wish i hadnt prompted this debate, cuz obviously it doesnt go anywhere! yes, it is personal taste, and ill certainly respect anyone's love for danny (love for, say, victor calderone, is another story! ). lets love and CARRY ON...wherever and whichever night of the week. OR BOTH! im ovah this drama...
  9. thats awesome. id actually like to get into this part of junior's music more, myself. ive looked at it as "go-home music," which has put a negative spin on my interpretation...as something i have to endure. i get into some of it: mainly the heavy percussion that is indicative of much of junior's better known work. that always gets me moving. im going early this week, more for nicky siano, but im gonna give tribal junior a VERY real chance...
  10. i must say thats one thing that somewhat disspoints me about the music at times. its like, just play something that i know! i realize that sounds cheesy and narrow-minded experientially, but im just being honest. he knows that if he even teases in something like "come together" or "work it now" we're gonna get ALL EXCITED. but then again, thats part of the beauty of junior's parties--the music comes from inside him; hes not just playing to produce a specific and calculated end. and THATS why we DO keep coming back week after week. in a sense, the "off nights" are as important as the "on" ones are. they most certainly add to the sense of macro experience and family that are ESSENTIAL to junior vasquez as more than just dj in the simple sense of "player of records." we stay loyal because junior gives us so much more...something to believe in and something to be a real part of week after week. see you all sunday!!!
  11. very nice. i must say i hadnt even taken into consideration all the crap going on in new york (externally) in my poor opinion of last sunday. very true about junior's fans not coming until late. i walked in at 9am and was thus quite dissapointed when it ended at 1pm. but i didnt have to pay for some odd reason, so i shouldnt be too upset!! i cant wait for this week; ill be there early (nicky siano (!) and austin downey in the 3rd floor a/c'ed lounge) and junior is spinning the whole time. how late do you expect him to go this week? 2?
  12. wow, ive never been there when there is a line. what time does this tend to happen?
  13. yeah miss thang will do that to you, if you dont keep control of it...i didnt mean for that to be a cheesy reference. its just that "control" is one of the major themes of anyone's relationship with her. im at the end of a one-month hiatus and cant wait to do it again this weekend. i just hope that in four weeks from now im not a sketched out wreck again; that seems to be the nature of the beast. why so popular among gay people? i cant fully answer that, but ill try, and ill definitely give it a lot of thought in coming days/weeks. its an interesting phenomenon. for one, we're kind of free spirits by definition. to come out one must be willing to discard a lot of cultural bullshit and come into one's own as an individual (then you get sucked into the culture, but thats another story). moreover, we love to carry on in general. long before i did tina i knew plenty of people who would stay up for a couple days or more naturally or with just coffee...so doing it on tina isnt such a huge lifestyle leap. next, you have the fact that it makes sex really good...we're all kind of sexually-ruled people to some extent, at least in that we let sexual preferences become a large part of our identities. this isnt true for everyone, of course, but it is more true for club boys. finally, you have the fact that tina makes you face up to issues in your life, which we are a bit more used to doing. not all of us, and there are plenty of str8 people who are better at it, but i think for most, coming out was one of the biggest issues to deal with in life--like HUGE LIFE CHANGING ISSUES--so we often get off on facing the smaller ones. these are generalizations, of course, and they definitely come out of my personal experience and that of my close friends. i dunno... other tina themes: EGO vs. ID (in the freudian sense) truth, honesty, and lies intensity "moderation in all things, including moderation" (from the lintel at delphi, temple of both apollo and dionysus--think about THAT one!) internal vs. external as far as your attitude, vibe, thoughts, etc goes grounding and detachment insanity (personal, associative, and cultural) EMOTION vs. COLD HEARTLESS BITCH (lol) shadiness, hypersensitivy, over-compensation for such issues, etc etc productivity these came out of my notebooks, which i kept during the last four weeks i was tweeking about... anyone have any reacitons, especially other tweekers?
  14. i think thats part of WHY we love him--he doesnt prepare his sets like a lot of djs do; rather, he plays from inside of him. so if hes not feeling it, this will show in his music. again, i still had a fabulous time and will be back for more this week. NOTE: austin downey (of hx) and NICKY SIANO will be playing up in that nicely air conditioned 3rd floor lounge earlier in the evening--a definite reason to drop in earlier than normal this week!
