  1. I came across this documentary and found it pretty interesting. Def. good to watch to get an idea about how it all evolved over the years.

    country: France

    year: 1996

    length: 63 min.

This documentrary is directed by Dominique Deluze in 1996., covering the scenes in Europe, USA and Japan. The film started with Richard D James wandering in some eerie catacombs, explaining how it feels like home, and eventually almost looked like "Who's Who in Techno", featuring Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, Kenny Larkin, Jeff Mills, even Mike Banks (who only agreed to be interviewed with his face covered); from Europe (vastly overrated but for this feature essential, I guess) Sven Väth, Autechre (touring in Barcelona), Mark Bell of (and these days also all of) LFO, Steve Beckett of Warp Records; and from Japan, Ken Ishii.

  2. I will just say that I PROMISE you that Spirit will be making a comeback.. just wait a little. Trust me.

In order for it to be a comeback, it had to be good in the first place. Place never took off once they opened with inconsistent bookings and on and off parties ranging from Hip Hop, to House, to Psytrance, to Rock, to Reggaeton and shit.

  3. I love that sound system in there but there is defiantly room for improvement

the last time i was there there was some reel weirdos in there.

I think they should be a little more selective of who they let in there.

the last time i was there a bunch of old Asian men with

there hookers totally ruined the atmosphere they were standing close together like someone would to

slow dance but they were jerking there bodies side to side all over the

the place and bumping into everyone. I don't know what the hell they were

doing some retarded twitch dance or something, but I had to go before I blasted one of these guys in there face and im usually pretty laid back

but one can only take so much.

Thats the all too infamous ASIAN SWING DANCE.

  4. before 1964 you'd be a pretty old dude going out though, i guess they don't expect any 42 year olds to be coming out that night! ;)

See Silverbull, I told u nobody else is gonna be going to these events when they are 40. Its time to find another hobby when u get to be that old. LOL.

  6. Went to see Markus last night and i have to say I LOVE SPIRIT'S SOUND SYSTEM!!!! Whenever i leave Crobar my ears ring for like a day. My ears never bothered me at all the entire night and absolutely no ringing in my ears when i got home at like 6am. What kind of system does Spirit have as compared to Crobar? Crobar as the treble up to high or something, its kills your ears:(

Its the same system(despite the name of the company that installs it being Phazon Sound Inc. to Integral Sound), just one isnt tuned is all. Thats prob. why ure ears are always ringing. They should just spend an extra few hundred to get a sound guy considering they can afford it. Sucks to have excellent DJs on that system every week and have it sound liek shit.

  7. how do you you think dj's like steve porter, desyn masiello, chris fortier, jonethan ojeda from spundae and countless others broke into the scene? they built reputations for being excellent openers who truly understood that you don't go to KILL it - you play tracks you love and that build a tension in the crowd so when the opener comes on it can erupt.

openers aren't supposed to kill it, they are supposed to set the table -- it's dj's that haven't played out much who when they get a chance to finally play go to KILL it because god only knows when the next time they'll get to play out.

but we'll agree to disagree on this...

Thanx for explaining that to ppl who have absolutely no clue about what an opener is supposed to play. I cant stand it when opening Djs try to go all nuts and hardcore before the DJ comes on. If u refuse to play lighter trax as an opener, THEN DONT OPEN and turn down the gig or play as a closer. Last weekend, this DJ at Pacha plays some of the hardest tribal tracks out there at 11:45 PM right before DJ Vibe is supposed to come on. My friends and I were like theres no way Vibes gonna match the level of intensity when he comes on. In fact, that was the case for the first few hours he spun until later on in the morning when he got harder. Whole point for an opener is to set the stage so the Dj headlining will feel comfortable while he begins his set and can take it on his own direction from there. If u bang it out and play stuff that hes not gonna be able to adapt to, yea, ure gonna get noticed by ppl, but the main DJ will look at u like wtf are u doing ?? Its just gonna take away from his set.
