Originally scheduled to be released on Ministry Of Sound America's F111 imprint before it folded, Blackwatch and Greed's 'Gentle Rain' has achieved it's own kind of legacy off white label, with copies changing hands on bidding website Ebay for in excess of $100. Now for those who missed out on the original promos, fear not as the track now gets an official release from those nice people at Release Records who have signed one of the mixes from the original doublepack and brought the track into 2004 with a mix from Grayarea. Need I say anymore? Probably not.. but I will anyway.. Blackwatch is the master of dubby basslines and grooves and his 'Jacked Hi Mix' is no exception to this. Pulsating swells and tight drum programming lead us into the mix, with a nice transparent downbeat groove just floating around haphazardly. Subtle guitar riffs provide backing for the laid back breakbeat rhythms and Lesley's vocals rise up and over the top smoothly line, with bottom end bass action sealing the deal rather nicely indeed. Almost two years on, and this is still one of Michael Thomas' best pieces of work. Grayarea's reworking is a fresh take on the track after the trio heard the original and decided they wanted to mutilate it. However this is not the only reason it's called the 'Dismembered Mix' as will become apparent. Techy beats and rough breaks collide following some delayed effects leading in, with a big guitar solo introducing a devastating industrial groove. A thrashing bassline impacts like an atom bomb as Lesley's vocals sit right at the heart of things like a lost little girl caught up in the carnage, before the aftermath kicks in with a warbling guitar break leading into an torrential rainstorm of fucked up beats and bass for the finale. Grayarea deliver a beatdown and a half here, that will destroy all in it's path. You have been warned. The wait has been more than worth it, as Grayarea deliver the dancefloor monster of a mix that this track needed, making this pair of warped mixes essential for those who aren't afraid of causing a little chaos and mayhem. Latest News Regarding "Spirit" PASADENA, Calif. -- Scientists are puzzled about a patch of soil near the Mars rover Spirit lander that they now call "Magic Carpet". The intrigue has been stirred up by how soil behaved when the lander’s airbags scraped across the martian soil. That soil appears to have been peeled away. This odd performance of the soil, some speculate, could provide a window into the existence of subsurface water and, maybe, clues about whether Mars could sustain life. A portion of Spirit's first image from Mars has been further processed to highlight a trail left by its airbag, created upon landing. Scientists dubbed the feature the "Magic Carpet." The airbag dragged rocks, too. A 3-D model of the airbag trail reveals more detail. The triangular rock in the upper left is about 8 inches (20 cm) tall. Several months ago, LA producer Mark Chu made his debut with the AA side single 'Lotus/4am', and since then has been busy working on music for film and TV. Thankfully he managed to find the time to create a follow up, and 'Out Of Focus' arrives just in time to start off 2004 for Method. Keeping it in the family, Baroque artists Tkac and Haverlik, add their own touch on the flip. Mark's own 'Illegally Blind Mix' is a deep and spacious melodic journey that thankfully manages to avoid the overblown stigma that sometimes graces tracks of this particular style. Drifting arpeggios and melody riffs float over a dreamy groove, constantly evolving, weaving it's way along in a warm yet subtle fashion, until soaring strings and breakbeat rhythms bring in an epic slant through the break and beyond, once again showcasing the talent of this producer and the fact that in time he will be one to watch for sure. 'Tkac and Haverlik' submerge the melodies into the background, and slide in a big rolling bassline which forms the nucleus of their mix, as synths bubble in the oceanic atmosphere that they create. Analogue stabs inject an organic feel to the groove, but it's the bass that ultimately dominates here, as Tkac and Haverlik take it squarely onto the main room dancefloor. Another winner from Central Rush, who brings a fresh set of ideas to the growing melodic sound that has been returning in the past few months. This, along with his diversity via branching out into music in other industries will ensure he stays one step ahead as the year develops, with his own mix here just slightly holding the edge over the deeper Tkac and Haverlik rework. My main issue here is "bandwidth". I have already dealt with friends who have their web server at home but when it came down to it, bandwidth was an issue. I don't want SOTU to be like a test or beta for someone who just started (not saying any of your friends fall in this category). We need someone who can resolve our bandwidth issue.
