    FEVER

OLD SCHOOL REUNION : 2004 at it's original home: PARADOX NIGHTCLUB

A Night of Great Memories and Music with Fever Founders and Resident DJ's

    CHARLES FEELGOOD [Fever | www.djfeelgood.com | LA]

    SCOTT HENRY [Fever | Cubik | www.buzzlife.com | DC]

Remember the infamous "Time to Get Ill" mixtape series? How about the unforgettable "Happy House" or "Catch the Buzz" tapes? Scott and Charles will be throwing down the tunes that rocked the dancefloors and earned Fever it's legendary status. In keeping with the party's true spirit, they will be mixing in the freshest underground cuts for a truely unique musical experience. Don't miss a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Fever vibe.

    Along with DJ's:

    BUSTER [snowball Collective | www.buzzlife.com | DC]

CHRIS BULLA [www.modernmusic.com | Kidz That Groove | MD]

    What was Fever?

Ask any old-skool East Coast raver about Fever, and you’ll be flooded with stories about the intensity of the vibe, the energy of the crowd, the uniting of friends and the pounding beats of an emerging 90's techno culture. The brainchild of East Coast rave pioneers Scott Henry and Charles Feelgood, up to two-thousand kids from up and down the East Coast would congregate every other Thursday at the Paradox, the club at which Fever was held. Ravers lined up under a highway overpass hours before doors opened to ensure that they would get in.

    What was Fever like?

Imagine a warehouse with two rooms of cutting-edge dance music, one of the best soundsystems on the East Coast, a skating rink-style snack bar, and an outdoor courtyard where exhausted dancers rested while trains sped by, horns blasting. Throw in a colorful mix of friendly ravers who took their dancing seriously, and you have all the ingredients for a Fever party.

    An Event Like No Other.

Fever ran at the Paradox from December 1992 to May 2001, one of the longest running biweeklies ever in the US. The talent that came through Fever over the years was breathtaking: Paul Van Dyk, Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Robert Armani, DJ Rap, Judge Jules, 2 Bad Mice, Tall Paul, Derrick Carter, Dieselboy, Dara, Josh Wink, Sandra Collins, Keoki and many, many others.

    DC SKILLZ 2.0

    @ The DC TUNNEL

    >>>>>>>>>UPGRADE COMPLETE>>>>>>>>>>

DC SKILLZ proudly presents "2.0", the next level in our event production. We are excited to offer an extremely diverse variety of musical styles and environments for your personal enjoyment. Unlike our previous event, Destination, this event is not a weekly. It is a one-off style concert/festival meant to celebrate our passion for Electronic Dance Music.

    featuring performances by:

    ANGEL ALANIS [A Squared Muzik | angelalanis.com | CHICAGO | LOS ANGELES]

Angel Alanis (aka A-squared, Subsonik) is one of Chicago's most creatively diverse and consistent producers of dance music today. With an uninterrupted flow of releases since 1997, he has unleashed explosive tracks ranging from funky disco workouts to tribal, through the depths of house and minimal techno. Angel's unique and distinct production style has given him the opportunity to collaborate with and re-mix for a slew of high-profile artists, including a remix for Joey Negro which occupied the #1 spot on Billboard's Top 20. Angel's music appeals to a wide variety of international DJs, as his tracks have appeared on mix CDs by Darren Emerson, DJ Dan, Christian Smith, Charles Feelgood, and countless others. His production is indeed top notch, but even more note-worthy is his amazing skills behind the wheels of steel, which is rare for most producers as prolific as him. From having 3 tracks going at once (and sounding great), to cueing and beat-matching live (and flawlessly), he rewrites the rules like no other. Tonight, prepare to be musically schooled by this sonic sensation.

DJ LEE [Metalheadz | Atlas | Timeless | CIA | UK]

Lee's involvement and history in the UK's underground dance scene dates way back to the late 80's. Starting off as a resident at the legendary "Brunnel Rooms" in Swindon to 94' playing alongside DJ's such as Doc Scott, Fabio, Grooverider and LTJ Bukem on the groundbreaking night "Speed" at Soho's Mars club. As well as playing all over the world Lee was also involved in the Timeless imprint, which has over the years released some of the finest drum n bass tracks todate by artists like Total Science, Digital & Spirit, Cause 4 Concern to name a few. This year, Lee has started a new imprint called Atlas Recordings, which will feature talented musicians from all over the globe, including Austrian D.Kay (a.k.a. Mind:Machine) and Lee himself for Atlas 001! Check out the first release called Udon by Lee and D.kay. So for those that don't know Lee as well as being an excellent DJ renowned for playing cutting edge drum n bass, he is famed for being continually upfront with his selection of dubs making him one of the most exciting DJs on the circuit.

MEA [Moonshine | Just Say Agency | Funky Tekno Tribe | Los Angeles]

Staying on the cutting edge, this mistress of the turntables consistently crafts her talents as a singer and a DJ behind the turntables. Mea is the star of the new film documentary "Put The Needle on the Record" and is currently in development for a new Reality TV show slated for a major network! DANNY HOWELLS [www.dannyhowells.com | yoshitoshi.com | uk]

Danny's infectious personality and individual style has put him a cut above the rest. It's no coincidence that he's been placed in DJ Magazine's 'Top 20 DJ's In the World' for the last 3 years. His unique, eclectic sound has been described as 'deepsexyfuturistictechfunkhouse' and it's shaking dance floors worldwide.

APHRODITE [urban Takeover | V2 | Aphrodite Recordings | UK]

Aphrodite began his musical career during England's 1988 "Summer of Love". By 1994, he was a prime mover in the UK jungle explosion, and has

been producing his own tracks and running his own label ever since.

DJ FRESH of Bad Company UK [breakbeat Kaos | UK]

Fresh's musical journey began at the astounding age of five when he taught himself how to play the piano, though unlike most beginners Fresh prefered to compose simple melodies than to play pieces that had been written by others. Fresh was, and remains to be, a true pioneer of computer-generated music.

DJ SS [Formation Records | UK]

As the summer sizzles on, Buzzlife Productions goes from strength to strength with its weekly Cubik parties. Tonight’s event, featuring global superstars and hometown heroes, Deep Dish, is another example of EDM’s rebound in the DC metropolitan area. Their latest single, “Flashdanceâ€, nods to the same-titled film of the early 80s, hinting to influences from which this tune borrows. “Flashdance†was one of the “it†tunes at the Miami Winter Music Conference this past March and reflects a shift in the house and progressive music circles at which Ali and Sharam are on the vanguard. Curious as to what this sounds like? Check out Cubik tonight — soak up that distinctive Deep Dish sound you love and cherish, and explore the new musical territories which they have chartered.

    150_miss_kittin.jpg150_john_selway.jpg

Even if you have never heard of Miss Kittin, you have heard her distinctive monotone vocals more times than you may realize. Often working with electro/techno producer, The Hacker, she’s covered “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)â€, disparaged Frank Sinatra on a Danny Tenaglia CD, admits her murderous penchant for kitchen cutlery and extols the virtues of life on MTV. Her vocal work on Felix da Housecat’s seminal “Kittenz and thee Glitz†album was probably her first exposure to the general American EDM audience. Well not only can she sing, Miss Kittin is an incredibly talented techno/electro DJ, as demonstrated on her Radio Caroline Vol. 1 mix CD. Also on this night: John Selway is a creative “by-product†of the early 90s DC rave scene who catapulted his global techno recognition with his pristine production techniques. His 2001 album “The Edge of Now†was years ahead of the electro trend. Tonight we welcome him “home†to DC for a night of main room techno at Cubik.

Fresh spent a large part of his formative years pushing the limited forms of music technology that were available to him to their limit. Fresh was, and remains to be, a true pioneer of computer-generated music.

DJ SS [Formation Records | UK]

DJ SS started DJing at the age of 14 and at 15 had played his first nightclub. Like most of the d'n'b DJ's, SS started out in the hip-hop scene.

He is one of the UK's finest DJ/Producers, an original breakbeat pioneer who has made an immense contribution to today's drum & bass sound.

  11. “The name is familiar,†reads Richie Hawtin’s bio... and yet, no one I’ve queried has ever heard of him or any of his more ubiquitous aliases: Plastikman and FUSE. Odd for an artist who has DJed to crowds larger than many rock bands ever play to (his appearance at the 1995 Glastonbury festival drew 20,000 people into the cramped confines of a DJ tent) and who has been commissioned by the French Government to compose two pieces of music for their Millennium 2000 celebrations. Hawtin’s anonymity in North America epitomizes the techno ethos of personality subversion to the end of bringing the music itself into sharper focus. As a musician, then, Hawtin is one of electronic dance music’s foremost innovators whose roots extend to the foundation of techno itself. A resident of Detroit-neighboring Windsor, Canada, Hawtin absorbed the influences of a Detroit radio DJ named The Wizard (Jeff Mills), who spun early records by techno forefathers Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson.
