  1. How much is it to get in tonight?
  2. Hey, Is anybody going to I/O tonight? Supposed to be some good breaks (and by good, I mean serious nasty ass bass). Does anybody know anything about it?
  3. My name: Anybody ever heard of superstring theory? It's the latest (and by latest, I mean in the last 25 years or so) candidate for a physical "theory of everything". Some will definitely argue with that and I encourage it! So you know, with the standard model, we have this "zoo" of subatomic particles that have been considered to be "point" particles that are goverened by crazy quantum mechanics. There are some problems with this in that we have Einstein's relativity (general and special) to describe what is happening on the macro scale of the universe but even ol' Einstein's equations break down when you get to the Plank scale (real small stuff, the smallest even, the level of "quantum foam" where shit gets nuts). We have particles to describe the mediation of every single one of the four known forces EXCEPT for gravity. Gravitons are predicted but have never been found. Now, we know, logically, that there aren't going to be two kinds of physics to explain the universe (a macro and a micro version). There has to be one set of rules. It has been proposed that instead of point particles, everything is made of these loops of energy called strings and that the differing physical properties of all the matter that we can account for (which ain't much incidentally, only about 3-5% of matter in the universe is what you think of when you think of normal matter, the rest is either dark matter, a matter of debate , or dark energy which even less is known about, think about that people!) Anywho, the differing physical properties that we see in different particles just arises from the different vibrational patterns of these strings. Beautiful ain't it? It's way more complicated than that though. So string theory has actually been superseded by M-theory because as it turned out, 5 different string theories reared there heads and you can't have 5 different theories of everything! BUT it seems that the 5 different theories are actually describing the same kind of thing, they are all a part of a larger, all inclusive, theory called M-theory. (Oh, by the way, string theory predicts that we live in a 10-dimensional universe, 3 of the regular dimensions that we are aware of, 6 more spatial dimensions curled up in Calabi-Yau (pretty sure I'm not spelling that right) spaces that are so tiny we would never be aware of them, but whose geometry would affect the way our universe works, and 1 dimension of time). Now M-theory posits that not only are there strings, there are membranes that the strings are attached to. These membranes are a part of an even HIGHER dimensional system (we are up to 11 now folks). One type of these membranes is a p-brane. Cute huh? Physicists have good senses of humor no matter what anybody says. Also, I have a freakishly small head, so kind of like a play on words, you know pea brain. OH, and the best part is that if this theory turns out to be true, LOTS of problems are solved. Gravity may be a closed loop string that isn't attached to the membrane, so it escapes as a gravitational wave away from our universe (which is on ONE of the membranes in higher dimensional space) which is why it would be so hard to find a graviton and why gravity is so unusually weaker than all of the other forces (which are strings attached to the membrane and can't escape). And ta da! Then we have a truly unifying theory. Oh and the Big Bang...may have just been a collision of two membranes. Go figure. I know it all sounds crazy, but I swear to god I'm not making this shit up. I couldn't possibly. People are working on the insane mathematics right now as we speak and hopefully when the new particle accelerator opens up in the place of CERN (I think), we may be able to see evidence supporting M-theory (MAYBE, that's one of the problems is that the predictions are so far beyond our technological capabilities right now to observe them). Anyway, I think it is very exciting. I mean, you know, this is REALITY we are talking about!!!! If you are interested, the best resource for non-physicists that I've seen so far is Brian Green's The Elegant Universe. My screen name always used to be allthingsstring, but you know, then M-theory came along and I've got to change with the times! SO that's it, that's where p-brane came from. aren't you sorry you asked!
  4. Count me in on the Sublime trip! I love that place. It is a little pricey (compared to where I'm from, but I'm sure it's not compared to other restaurants down here, pricey to me is over $10 for a meal!) The atmosphere is cool though and I definitely trust how the food is prepared there (considering it's all vegan so I know if I get grilled veggies, there won't be any stray meat pieces in it) I won't be here for 3 weeks though, going home for the holidays. : (where I can get good cheap veggie food, mmmm grilled tempeh mellow mushroom hoagies... ) Can ya'll tell I'm hungry?
  5. Where does Matt Spector spin in Delray? Oh and for the Ft. Lauderdale newbie, WONDERFUL dinning experience at Sublime (if you like well prepared vegetarian cuisine)

    Breaks at Space

Brwneydtrouble and mrmovement33 Otherwise, very depressing and disappointing thread. Mad amounts of ignorance spewing forth! Damn guys, I'm stuck in the vicinity for at least five years. At first I was thirlled with how easy it was to find somewhere to go, something to do, but soon was filled with disappointment at the homogeneity of the music and I'm still on my search for some quality breaks. Ironic... over the holidays I'm going to get a whole night of wickedly soulful bass (thank freaking god) New Year's in freaking North Carolina of all places! Come on FL step up! For the record, I've been a breakbeat freak for years and I've never touched a glow stick. Any genre (or subgenre) you deal with you will have pop candy shit (geez, breaks isn't the first genre that comes to mind either) and then you have the underground sound with substance. What is all of this resistance? This is the first area I have ever been in that is so anti-breaks. It's really weird. Makes me want to move back to the West coast. I don't want to fall into the tendency to stereotype, but honestly, at least back home and in Cali, and all of my other experiences, when the breaks are good, the people are cool and when it's poppy housey trancey hard housey type stuff the crowd is like what I've experienced so far in Miami, for the masses kind of people. As far as intelligence goes, I'll get back to you on that. I'm studying music and the brain and at least in my experience I've seen a correlation, not inferirng any direction of causality here, but it is something I wouldn't mind looking into. As for elitism, doesn't sound like the breaks fans are the ones touting their superiority here! *sigh* So Nerve is the place to be for breaks? I'll see the few of you like minded indviduals there maybe. (and those of you who know what I'm talking about, I bet it's no coincidence that you are at least one SD above the mean)

    mmmmmhmmmmm

Have you guys heard of the betalounge website? www.betalounge.com www.somafm.com (this one is good too, especially for chill stuff) very good resources, if you all already know, sorry, I'm catching up, just now got high speed :-) Listening to the Tipper/Freq Nasty set (9/6/03) (highly highly highly recommended for those funky dark wickedly beautiful souls) Listen, seriously folks, first 10 minutes of that set....friggin' goosebumps. Does ANYONE KNOW WHERE i CAN HEAR BASS LIKE THAT???? I need it so bad, ya'll don't know! I am all housed out in this scene. I was so disappointed with what went on at the Opium garden, I was depressed all weekend. (I knew there was a chance that I wouldn't hear anything but house, but I've heard some nasty shit from Bushwacka before and had my hopes up oh so high) It made me not even want to bother anymore. (By the way, highlight of the night was meeting brwneydtrouble and seeing erickamikaze again so it wasn't a total bust) NOT AT ALL meant to insult anyone, house just isn't my number one love (especially after hearing the same type stuff over and over and over again every freaking weekend). I have got to have nasty sick nauseating disgusting bass, the kind that furrows my brow, the kind that washes my face with a look that walks a fine line between pleasure and pain, the kind that throws my body around like it owns it, like it is no longer my own, the kind that speaks to my source. I miss it. Anyone know anything, throw some of that lovin' my way please! bow to the bass
  8. good, good, I want to meet you, I've been told I should... what's this return to the edge business? what sort of breaks are we talking from these locals? what kind of hat?
  9. Yea! I think this might be guaranteed quality music (which is much needed compared to the generic pop house crap I heard last weekend)! Sounds like many of you will be there so hopefully I will get the chance to FINALLY meet some people...Bling sounds like your presence is requested, I would just give it up and go, plus I want to meet you too... you are all over this message board. Oh god, could it be, could there be breaks??? Be still my beating heart...
  10. Well, that was fun. Ok, who was who at Venu? I got lucky and met Erikamikaze but that was all. There were some serious dancers there. That was nice to see! (although the circle was kind of intimidating) Does anyone know who was on around ummm 12:30 inside? That was probably my favorite. It was so freaking hot though I had to go back to the car to take off my wig and when I came back baby anne was on. :-( I liked whoever was on after that. Were there any breaks outside? Did I miss it? What's it looking like next weekend? I want some more. Any disgustingly nauseating funky beats goin' down anywhere?
  11. Good, I will go to Venu, that's where I had my heart set on anyway. I was confused but now I see the light. I will probably be a vamp, cause I always am and I spent mad money on some fangs one year (that I broke, but they work with fixadent) so I wear them every chance I get. May have on a short purple wig (I can't decide if it will be too hot to dance in??). I will be there with some friends from school and probably the easiest way to spot me will be with my bald friend with the horns and the red jacket. He's very easy to spot in a crowd. What are you dressing up as? (or is it a surprise?)
  12. Ok, so it seems there are quite a few attractive choices for Halloween festivities. Where are most of you going? I can't decide. I really want to meet some of you. (Where is Nerve?) (the new girl)
  13. Please do keep me informed!!! I am already drooling, my knees are weak.....
  14. Ok, I tried to post a picture of me so I can be recognized at a future party and hopefully meet some of you. I don't know if it worked or not. It's under the posse pose section. (Although, at Halloween, I am probably going to look quite a bit different...fishnets, fangs, purple hair, etc.)
