  1. I hear that there is going to be a Marine Parade party at Maze on Mar 7th but I have no address. can anyone help ?
  2. I think it's crazy trying to predict what is going to be "hot" this year before the conference, as someone I think had mentioned we will all find out when we're there. I can say that Pangea Recordings has a nice line up of releases for 2004. I'm sure you will hear a few of em in some sets during the conference:D
  3. Does anyone know what venues Danny Will be playing at during the WMC ? I've never heard this dude play but if his live dj sets are as good as any of his mix cds, I can't afford to miss one . He has never played in San Diego nor do I think any promoter here would bring him out and LA has been out of the question since my car has been useless to me for ages now. I did read that he might be playing for a RIP Records happy hour or something, and at a private "industry" party at a place called BED. Any info on other events I might be able catch one of his sets would be appreciated greatly.
  4. Cool thanks for the tips. Can't wait for this ! It looks like I will be spending alot of time at Nerve.
  5. A friend of mine told me that the doormen at the clubs pick and choose who gets in the events. I'm going to be going to the WMC by myself, he says that the door guys really only pick out groups with hot girls or more girls than guys, well I'm a lone dude who just really wants to go hear some of my favorite djs (since most of this talent I would never hear in San Diego). He pretty much said "good luck" and recomended I find a group with girls or find a girl to stand in line with if I even wanted to think about getting in. So for those of you who have been before, would you say his advice is credible ?
  6. This will be my first time to the conference and the east coast for that matter.
  7. Nice ! Steve Porter, Trendroid, Barry Gilby, and Low End Specialist in there. I would probably never get to hear these guys in San Diego.
  8. can I bring a camera to take some pics for a website in San Diego www.sdravers.net Judging by the list of talent you guys will have there during the week, looks like I will be spending most of my time at Nerve. This will be my first time ever at the conference or Miami for that matter.
  9. No I totally hear ya about the whole prog house thing. It just so happens to be one of the styles I play. As far as San Diegos "tired ass" ? I do refer to the club scene. By all means this is a beautifull city, and there's alot of cool shit to do here but, when it comes to club music and clubbing in general, these people are seemingly very uneducated when it comes to dance music. It's more apparent to me as a dj who has played for crowds in places where people know their music, and know when a dj is working the crowd right, or if he is fucking the vibe up. It seems to me that, here in the 2 big clubs that anyone goes to. People will just dance to anything that has a beat. Even if the dj train wrecks his or her way through a set. Ironically enough. many of the really good dj's who have been doing it for many years, don't ever get a chance to play at these bigger venues. And yes that includes me. See here is what it breaks down to. Myself and and a few other local dj's who I respect, come from the once thriving "RAVE" scene here in SD and LA. Now that "RAVES" are a thing of the past, and everything is 21 + here, we got passed by when the scene jumped to an older crowd. So we sort of got hit with a stigma of being "RAVE" djs, and all these new club promoters didnt even know about us cause this "club phenominon" seemed to happen almost over night. So what had to happen is all these "new" promoters and clubs had to fill the line up every night, so they got their friends and themselves playing at these "hot new venues". So as you can guess. most of these guys had not had the experience playing for crowds that really felt and understood the music and what the dj could do for a crowd. It is more of an "insto dj" or "overnight I'm a world class dj" thing. Hence why the crowds are "uneducated". I don't know. from what I hear and read. It seems that club goers on the East Coast are in fact very knowledgeable when it comes to the dj's and the different genres of dance music. I mean NY and Miamis clubs and underground parties are legendary. They must be something if I know about em all the way over here 3000+ miles away ! Thats part of why I'm going to visit those two cities in March. cheers' greg
  10. Will do. To be honest. San Diego pretty much sucks if your looking for a quality night out. That is if you want to go hear good dj's at a nice club. Now if you want to hear good dj's at a dive club that is an option. See things are real ass backwards here when it come to our local talent. The mediocre and just plain shitty dj's play at the nice clubs (there are only two of those here by the way). and the really good dj's who play really good music play at dive bars and small clubs. Can't really explain why that is but, it is. There are two main big clubs that feature national and international dj's. They are "On Broadway" and a venue called L5. Recently Sandra Collins played at L5, and Monk from RITM will be here real soon. "On Broadway' had Tiesto and PVD a while back. Again though the locals who somehow have residencies at these places just dont (for me anyway) have much if anything to offer if your looking to get your dance on. This is just my perspective and opinions. I would recomend you to check it out for yourself though. The two afformentioned clubs do seem to have a good turn out every weekend. hope this info could be of some use to you or anyone else who may be heading to San Diego in the future. cheers' greg
  11. If you are into deep and classy house music, there is also a venue called The Onyx Room. It's small but really nice inside. They have stuff going on Wed through Sat. They bring in alot of house dj's from all over the place. All these clubs are located in the "Gaslamp Quarter" in Downtown SD. If you don't want to dael with the irritating young college crowds, stay away from the Pacific Beach, and Mission Beach areas for night life (it's all hip hop and top 40). I would recomend those places during the day for people watching. I mean our average temps during the day have been in the high 60s. Don't get me wrong this is a cool city but, not so cool if you are a dj trying to make a buck or two, or even just get a regular gig for that matter.
  12. Hi my name is greg. I'm a producer / dj from San Diego. I will be stopping in Miami from March 6th - 17th as part of a cross country trip I'm taking, as well as hitting the WMC. I know this is a long shot but, I was checking around to see if I could perhaps get in on a night someplace to play some records. An opening slot would be fine, I don't need to be payed, just an opportunity to play someplace else besides this tired ass city of San Diego, who has no love for tribal, or progressive house. Or local djs for that matter. I know you might be thinking "here is some young newbee dj looking for a chance to play". Actually I've been playing records now for almost 7 years, and producing tracks for 2. I'm not getting any younger but, I still love djing. My sound when djing is someplace between Danny Howells and Dave Seaman. I don't have a dj mix on line anyplace right now but, you can hear some of my original work, and see a bio at www.sounclick.com/soulprojector Well thank you for your time never hurts to try, greg

  20. I don't know if any of you might have heard of my name or heard me play at GLO when it was at the venue east of the Strip ? Does Pauly still do GLO or any other night in Vegas ? It's been quite a long time since I've been out there.
  21. Well because I've never been to NY. I don't know what clubs host what djs but, thanks for the info. I'm actually not going to be there untill early April 2004 now.
  22. Yeah well it depends on how you interpret the term Progressive. I know some people automatically assume dark, dull, and often boring 4/4 beats to be "Progressive House". I like to think of it in a literal sense, in that the music is full of new and innovative sounds, and style, not just a formula patterned structure. And that each record sort of builds within itself. Then you take a good progressive dj, and they know how to put it all together to work a crowd into a dancing frenzy. Thats more specificaly what I mean by "progressive". So it could apply to any genre of dance music per se. I just happen to like house, and I like the style of music the afformentioned djs play. I think both can take the dancefloor on a hell of a sexy, tribal laden journey. Oh and thanks to everyone for the info
  23. No where in all of NYC ? I'm in California but, are going to NYC in the near future. Any tips would be appreciated. thanks:D
