Tuesday Feb 17th Joshua Collins & Rachael Starr Joshua Collins (Hooj Choons, Matter:/Form, Brique Rouge, Big Chief) From the deep, raw sounds of Chicago emerges one of the most captivating artists in the dance music scene. Over the past few years, Josh has become one of the most solid and enticing producers in the U.S., offering a consistent flow of releases that range from tech-house and house to techno. An extensive musical background and years of training in piano and cello have given Josh a strong platform to excel as a producer, remix artist and DJ. His interest in dance music was sparked circa 1989 by Bad Boy Bill and Julian Perez of the famous Hot Mix 5; his current musical inspiration comes from artists such as Massive Attack, Sven Vath, Cajmere and Mazi (aka Audio Soul Project). His interest soon turned into a passion, and his first record was released in 1997. After working with Jasperstone Records for nearly a year, Josh began producing tracks for various labels under Strictly Hype Recordings. He released numerous records on most of SHR's sub-labels such as Flashtraxx, Sunrise, UCmusic, Afterhours, Dialogue, Colossal and Gourmet. As his interests in music have moved from hardhouse to tech/progressive house, Josh has released several tracks on labels like Hooj Choons, Nitegrooves, NRK / Honchos, Grayhound, Big Chief, Gourmet & soon his new label 'frik:n:frak recordings'. Now with more than 90 releases out, Josh has worked with vocalists/artists like Barbara Tucker, Shawn Christopher, Ron Carroll, Byron Stingily, Mea Fisher, Stephanie Cooke, Kimara Lovelace, Rachael Starr, and Stryke. His tastes and interest in music have been continuously expanding and growing, we can only anticipate what enticing and prevailing new things Joshua Collins will unleash to take us, and the rest of the world by storm. Rachael Starr(Jamayka, DJ, singer, producer, keyboardist - there is little territory in the music business that Rachael Starr hasn't covered and conquered. Still in her early 20s, Rachael can already claim several top-selling tracks, including "Remember" "Soul Factor" and "When You're Gone". Such hits have found their homes in clubs and on compilations throughout the United States. The success of these catchy club tunes helped to launch Rachael's voice into the spotlight; It won't be long until she receives her due credit, though, because she's definitely not voice alone. In fact, it's the unique combination of her ethereal vocals floating over the killer cuts she lays down that makes her music so attractive (and marketable). And besides having sheer talent accumulated from growing up in a musical household - her mother was a singer and pianist - Rachael Starr also acquired amazing computer-related technical abilities. Her knack with the Mac (or PC) opened a world of perfectionist possibilities to the producer side of her personality. Besides mastering an astounding array of music software, she also programs video games and designed her professional website (www.rachaelstarr.com). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next up @ Orange March 17th Joshua Collins & Rachael Starr Feb 24th Tyler Stadius (Fabric, Deepen Discs) John Davis (Headtunes Recordings, Orange) Headtunes Recordings and Marz Entertainment presents: Orange Every Tuesday 161 Brighton Ave Allston MA http://www.thekells.com
