  1. Just a quickie to let y'all know that there will be no Orange or Pressure sessions tonight. But Next week we welcome Jonathan Lisle from Bedrock London to Orange, Jonathan is making a stop as a personal favor on his way to headline Spundaes Birthay Party in San Fran. This is going to be one of THE best parties that I have had the pleasure of throwing since Orange started and I urge everyone to get there early for what is going to be an insane night out. Bacardi O will be providing an open bar from 10 - 11 and there will be opening sets by DPL & Melee and Defmatches Riverc0il Pressure sessions will be open downstairs continuing to provide some of New Englands best Drum and Bass Djs, if you didnt know it already that crew are ripping it week after week with some of the best guests around. I never knew that there were so many talented D&B Djs in the area. Definitely mark this one on your calendars because I guarantee you that it will be a very long time before you ever, if ever, get to see someone of Jonathan Lisle's caliber at a small venue again. RSVP also for the Open Bar to jdavis@headtunes.com
  2. Phunk’dup @ The Frying Pan All I can say is that The Frying Pan is one of the coolest venues I have ever played at. It’s a ship that was sunk and salvaged and turned into a seriously great venue for parties. Saturday night I had the opportunity to play aboard the Frying Pan in NYC as part of the Phunk’dup Soundsystem’s trip to the US. First off the crowd reminded me of years ago when people actually went out to have a good time and enjoy the music. Every time the music change a level of intensity a cheer would go up and people were hugging, dancing, smiling and totally into what I and the other DJs on the night were trying to do. I arrived just in time to go on, due to crap traffic in Connecticut and less than stellar service at a nearby restaurant, when I got there people were all over the ship just dancing and drinking, I passed quite a few people who were talking, drinking and dancing and thought to myself.. “This is gonna be a great night†the vibe was already established. I played my ususal helpings of house music, a little on the harder techier side because immediately after me was former POD resident and one of the pioneers of the Irish Techno scene, FRANCOIS. Francois took to the decks with the ferociousness of a crazed killer who wanted nothing more than to destroy the dance floor and prove to the US that he knows techno like no other. He started his set with an older choon “Patricia Never Leaves the house†and just like Patricia in the house… Not one person left the dance floor while Francois ruled over it. Out of ten… 10. If you like Techno… You have got to hear Francois play. After Francois, came the main event! Dean Sherry and Barry Dempsey... AKA Phunk’dup Soundsystem. The boys run a monthly party in Ireland that continuously is sold out to 2000 clubbers and Saturday night they proved exactly why that happens. They play together and cross all genres and spectrums of music as they go and have so much energy behind the decks that if you could harness it I imagine you could power a small town and still have some to spare. Dean and Barry really know how to party and they know their place at the core of what is going on. It was funny to see them passing out flyers in a restaurant in Manhattan to people that you would never expect to show up but the intensity and the charge that they have totally became apparent when some of those people arrived at the booth to say hello during the night. They created one of the best vibes I have ever experienced and turned the night from a club night into a huge party. Tracks that stood out to me were Slacker - “Your Faceâ€, Insperion – “Narcotic Influence†and many other classics that truly are the best of the best. I have the privilege of having Francois, Dean and Barry play tomorrow night at Orange and I honestly think that if you miss this night you are seriously going to miss one of the events of the year. 5. Tuesday Feb 17th Joshua Collins & Rachael Starr Joshua Collins (Hooj Choons, Matter:/Form, Brique Rouge, Big Chief) From the deep, raw sounds of Chicago emerges one of the most captivating artists in the dance music scene. Over the past few years, Josh has become one of the most solid and enticing producers in the U.S., offering a consistent flow of releases that range from tech-house and house to techno. An extensive musical background and years of training in piano and cello have given Josh a strong platform to excel as a producer, remix artist and DJ. His interest in dance music was sparked circa 1989 by Bad Boy Bill and Julian Perez of the famous Hot Mix 5; his current musical inspiration comes from artists such as Massive Attack, Sven Vath, Cajmere and Mazi (aka Audio Soul Project). His interest soon turned into a passion, and his first record was released in 1997. After working with Jasperstone Records for nearly a year, Josh began producing tracks for various labels under Strictly Hype Recordings. He released numerous records on most of SHR's sub-labels such as Flashtraxx, Sunrise, UCmusic, Afterhours, Dialogue, Colossal and Gourmet. As his interests in music have moved from hardhouse to tech/progressive house, Josh has released several tracks on labels like Hooj Choons, Nitegrooves, NRK / Honchos, Grayhound, Big Chief, Gourmet & soon his new label 'frik:n:frak recordings'. Now with more than 90 releases out, Josh has worked with vocalists/artists like Barbara Tucker, Shawn Christopher, Ron Carroll, Byron Stingily, Mea Fisher, Stephanie Cooke, Kimara Lovelace, Rachael Starr, and Stryke. His tastes and interest in music have been continuously expanding and growing, we can only anticipate what enticing and prevailing new things Joshua Collins will unleash to take us, and the rest of the world by storm. Rachael Starr(Jamayka, DJ, singer, producer, keyboardist - there is little territory in the music business that Rachael Starr hasn't covered and conquered. Still in her early 20s, Rachael can already claim several top-selling tracks, including "Remember" "Soul Factor" and "When You're Gone". Such hits have found their homes in clubs and on compilations throughout the United States. The success of these catchy club tunes helped to launch Rachael's voice into the spotlight; It won't be long until she receives her due credit, though, because she's definitely not voice alone. In fact, it's the unique combination of her ethereal vocals floating over the killer cuts she lays down that makes her music so attractive (and marketable). And besides having sheer talent accumulated from growing up in a musical household - her mother was a singer and pianist - Rachael Starr also acquired amazing computer-related technical abilities. Her knack with the Mac (or PC) opened a world of perfectionist possibilities to the producer side of her personality. Besides mastering an astounding array of music software, she also programs video games and designed her professional website (www.rachaelstarr.com). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next up @ Orange March 17th Joshua Collins & Rachael Starr Feb 24th Tyler Stadius (Fabric, Deepen Discs) John Davis (Headtunes Recordings, Orange) Headtunes Recordings and Marz Entertainment presents: Orange Every Tuesday 161 Brighton Ave Allston MA http://www.thekells.com
