  1. That was it! An excellent night, I must say. They dropped bombs all night, and nice one Craig for gettin them down. On top of that, Demo played a fantastic set that everyone was diggin. Well done all around, O.G.

    what do you do?

Just wondering what you all do here in the MIA. Work? School? Im at U of M law finishing my second year. Believe it or not, that leaves me plenty of time to screw around...and go out! Anyways, do most of you live and work on the beach? Just curious how people are surviving. --Omar
  3. Word. Sound the alarm, this is gonna blow the roof off!
  4. Its good to see that theres some level headed, nice people on this board. Where are you all when I go out? Anyways, I agree with most of whats been said. For starters, I am a big fan of championing local and famous djs. If a set is good, its good and that the bottom line. But I think that of equal value to a good night out is the crowd, and the vibe. Feeling comfortable and relaxed when you are out is the product of being surrounded by chill people, not uptight angry people like you see out often at the clubs. I say this only based on comparisons with places Ive lived, namely London, and Boston. In comparison clubbers in these cities are much more civil. I dont remember having elbows shoved in my back clubbing at places like The End in london, while if you go to Crobar it is to be expected every five seconds as if it is acceptable behavior. Oh yeah, last two factors: Sound System Is KEY. Miami is generally ahead of the curve on this one. Last of all: drink prices! Sure you can get in for free but then you get fleeced at 10 bucks a pop. (and dont forget that they often give you only half a red bull at that with your vodka). My Solution: Screw those ubre-greedy club owners until they set reasonable prices, and bring your own flask full of whiskey! It works like a charm and leaves you full and satisfied. Unfortunately this is a drastic measure that could easily be avoided if these places were more reasonable in their policies. --OG
  5. Hi all, this is my first post. I am a law student at U of M and a house, breaks and dnb dj to boot. Ive noticed that this board is picking up little so I figured why not join in! Any other dj's on the board? Im sure you are all house fans, and many old schoolers at that But...I wanted to get some idea of how many of you are looking for a more diverse house sound in Miami? I know how the scene here is; ive lived here for two years now and understand how musically uninformed/uninterested many of the people are. When I moved here I was initially surprised at the weak representation from the dnb and breaks scenes. I know a lot of people who work to make these scenes stay afloat and im fully aware of how hostile promoters and locals on the beach are towards them. Its especially tough now becuase of the age limits on the beach. Anyways, Im perfectly content going to a quality night out here, but I was wondering if any of you knew why the scene here doesnt embrace all ends of the house scene? I dig progressive and deep, but no more than bangin' tech-house or good old funky american house! Why no West Coast Style American House Djs (like H-Foundation, or anyone off of tango, siesta, doubledown..) And since Ive been here I havent seen Derrick Carter or any of a host of big time American House djs booked. They seem to play every other place but here. What gives? Lastly, I know this is long, but im sure a lot of you other djs also shop for quality records alone regardless of popularity or over-genrification, but where are you? I shop at Uncle Sams and notice that they have mad racks of quality Funky, Tech, and Prog records that I NEVER hear out. Im guessing theres a whole lot of other good bedroom djs out there (better than the residents on the beach) that dont cater to the promoter's or club owners tastes and dont get booked. Id at least like to know who you are just to find some comfort in the fact that good taste prevails! peace, Omar G.
