I was at the party as well. Chus and Ceballos played one of the best sets I have ever heard. All of my friends were in amazment at them after hearing me preach about how great they are over the past 2 years. I would have to disagree about Victor's set. He is one of my favorite DJ's but his set was one of the most dissapointing sets that I have ever heard. I am not the best writer so I will copy something that one of my friends wrote to us as his review about the party that I agree with- As much as I hate to admit it, I'd have to agree that Victor's BP set was rather unfortunate. It's not so much that it was "bad" (that's so subjective anyway), but it was pretty boring, seemed uninspired and, in my opinion, was inappropriate for the event. And not because it was too dark, hard or deep (I'd have liked that!). Instead of building on the fierce energy Chus & Ceballos had created (who, by the way, seemed to be holding back a bit to fit their slot, yet still turned it out in a major way!), the music basically just stalled. With the exception of a few highlights, it never really seemed to recover or go anywhere interesting. Tons of dropouts, abrupt and ill-timed starts & stops and so much monotony that much of the time it just sounded like endless loops and what could best be described as filler music. The few songs he actually played were great, but it was just too little, too late for a lot of us. So I figure either Victor was just having an off night (happens to the best of us!), or, what I believe is probably the more likely explanation, his vision of what Black Party music should be is just simply out of synch with what most the people at the party actually want to hear. (No, not all happy, fluffy sing-a-longs, but something more uplifting and energetic, with a serious edge, like C&C played, and like Victor's first 2 BP performances). Heck, give me deep, give me dark, give me sexy anyday on the dance floor -- just make sure it's high energy and takes me somewhere other than the dungeon or torture chamber. Like the Light party he played last June at Crobar. A similar set would have been just perfect for Roseland last night.
