Opening Set by Lexus King In the Mink Room Catalyst (Five Cent Jive Cartel) Catalyst aka Cliff Wilks was raised in the hills of NC but woke up one day realizing that his mid twenties couldn't be experience in a backwoods shithole so he came to our Nation's Capital to drink his own weight in booze while doing whatever the fuck he pleases. One of the those things was to find the funkiest and jazziest tunes and share them with others so they too could shake their sweet sweet asses with him. This dancer turned dj doesn't care about much other than getting the fuck down and it shows when he's behind the decks... don't check him out unless you're prepared to be funked. Charly C (Buzzlife | StrangelandRecords.com) Buzzlife DnB veteran Muramasa has a dirty secret; A dirty, sexy, jazzy, funky little secret. Come hear what happens when he turns his normal junglist gusto into pure funk freaking, lust peaking, ass shaking, baby making bravado under his house alias ‘Charly C’. Brandon Black (1200 Traxx / Flatpack Traxx / Clean House / My House Your House Radio) Originally from D.C. Brandon grew up in the DC club scene of the mid and late 90's where he was magnetically drawn towards edm. Coming of age inside the legendary Buzz Party at Nation Niteclub, Brandon was exposed to the best dj talent in the world. This past year has seen Brandon playing in Miami, Philly, Baltimore, and NYC in additon to his home-turf of DC and he shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, with his new found a new love of production, he's just getting started. Built on a passion for the classic house beats of the mid/late 90's and sinister fetish for the jackin beats of today his tunes are sure to turn a few heads in 2008. Look for upcoming releases on 1200 Traxx, Dirty Boots, Cleanhouse, and Flatpack Traxx. Miguel Lush (Mosaic | Shorty's) Miguel Lush began spinning Colombia loft parties and raves at the early old age of fifteen years. His love for American funk music was calling to him and on his 20th birthday Miguel departed for the USA. By the age of 21 he had already built a solid foundation for himself in the Baltimore/DC club scene. By 26 Miguel found himself guest Dj-ing at most of Baltimore/Washington's dominant dance clubs and joined the exclusive roster of Mosaic resident DJs. Regardless of his thick accent and his weakness for tequila Miguel brings the funkier and jazzier side of House. ======================= GUESTLIST = HIT ME BACK WITH NAMES OR EMAIL ME dj_ramiro@hotmail.com PRESALE http://www.wantickets.com/buzz REASONABLE TABLE PACKAGES: Call Justin at (703) 635-0595 ----------------- BUZZ is Back ! 10. STEVE PORTER The next generation of electronic music producers is gaining hold and leading the charge is DJ/production phenom STEVE PORTER. His prolific productions have garnered international attention and are propelling him into America’s future DJ-cum-producer star. Steve Porter is just released his first-ever mix compilation ‘PORTERHOUSE’ with 26 tracks melded together on 1xCD in his signature genre-defying, pulsating, energetic Porterhouse style. The album merges his DJing and production style with 9 of his own original tracks, further blurring the distinction between DJ and producer into one compelling artist to watch. Once in a blue moon there comes along a prodigy that is noticed by the big guns and whose talent catapults them onto the world stage. Something of a child prodigy from a famous scientist father, Steve’s first love was discovering electronic sounds at 16 years old. From Boston to New York, Steve Porter has evolved from record store clerk, mobile DJ to New England rave DJ to landing on the roster at one of the most prestigious booking agencies in the world. Steve Porter was discovered by Chris Fortier when Chris heard a CDR of his productions in 1999. Chris quickly brought him into the FADE Records fold. Soon thereafter, Steve was signed as the youngest member to join The Collective Agency; home to Sasha, U.N.K.L.E., and Lee Burridge. He began touring across the U.S., Canada, South America, Australia, Asia and Europe and has played alongside Sasha on the Airdrawndagger & Involver North American tours, Sander Kleinenberg on the Essential Mix Tour and also headlining a hectic schedule of national and international DJ dates. Over the last six years, Steve has amassed a wide portfolio of over 70 singles and 28 remixes under his name and the many aliases (Agent 001, HDF & Bons) used to suit the mood of the song. His myriad of tracks have been dominating dancefloors globally with the versatility of Porterhouse finding its way into the record boxes of everyone from Sasha, Lee Burridge, Derrick Carter, Carl Cox, Sander Kleinenberg, Mark Farina and Paul van Dyk. Steve’s debut artist album ‘Homegrown’ released in 2005 on Fade Records is an amalgam of his various unique styles and melodic nuances. The expertly mixed album brings together 14 original tracks. Some of which have already garnered wide attention with inclusion of the tracks on numerous high-profile dance music labels & compilations including; "Vodka Cranberries" on hot new label Nu Republic, "Definite Form" on Sander Kleinenberg’s Little Mountain Records and included on his recent Everybody CD for Renaissance, and most recently, the track “Swanky†has been included on ool Felix da Housecat’s upcoming Playboy: The Mansion compilation. The essence of Porterhouse brings the energetic action to the dancefloor where the warm, funky basslines and cool percussion melt away any chin stroking pretensions and the resonating guitar & piano hooks lure you into an eternal groove. Make no mistake, Porterhouse is party house. LUKE FAIR At the forefront of Canada's growing dance scene is Luke Fair. He has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and events in the world, offering club goers a taste of his funky - techy eclectic house sound each and every weekend. His sets include everything from groovy house and techno to funky progressive and electro. Constantly re-editing tracks to customize his sets, Luke's ongoing desire to make every set stand out from the others is very evident. Luke has pushed his sound the world over, headlining at world renowned clubs like Pacha , Bedrock, Red Light , Space, 'Zouk' club Singapore and The Womb, Tokyo. He headlined the 8000 person 'Moonpark' party in Argentina this past June and Luke's recent Eastern European tour with John Digweed ended at Godskitchen's massive Global Gathering festival.Luke's skills have won the praise of some of the industry's biggest players. He was chosen by Danny Howells and Deep Dish as their 'future hero' in DJ Mag's Top 100 issue and, most recently, Luke was selected by none other than DJ Sasha to open up for him in every US city on the Involver CD release tour. Over the past few years, Luke has garnered attention for his extremely diverse and genre-crossing studio efforts. From dubbed-out house to melodic progressive, his tracks have been played by djs from all across the dance music spectrum. Everyone from Sasha to David Morales to The Plump DJs have all included Luke's production in their sets. As well, Pete Tong has featured numerous Luke Fair productions on his world famous BBC Radio 1 'Essential Selection' show. Despite his heavy touring schedule, Luke continues to work tirelessly in the studio. His recently completed remixes of Agent 001's 'Faakson' and Momu's 'The Dive' will be hitting the stores at the end of the summer and a diverse 4-track EP on Bedrock will be released soon after. Also in the Main Room Alex Haje and Mike Haddad Ken Christensen & guests TBA (Ministry Of Sound/Primal/Alphabet Music) The genre busting house guru is back to Buzz for his "Under The Influence" CD Tour for www.primalrecords.com. Ken was half of the notorious East Coast Boogiemen duo that stretched a decade in global clubbing. His amphibian blend of bumpin disco, bangin' acid, punk to new wave and quality vocal tracks have moved floors from; London to Spain's Canary Islands, Japan to Australia and Canada to the shores of Brazil. The first 50 people will receive a free record from Ken's label, Alphabet-Music.com. Check out the site for more of Ken's current productions. Peter Christianson (LawnChair Generals, San Fran) Brandon Black (Speak Easy) GENR8 BC Recordings | Freak Recordings | Cartel Recordings | Evol Intent Recordings | Habit Recordings - LA You might not know this producer off the top of your head, but that's probably because he has more aliases than your average mafia don. Rene Reyes produces drum and bass alone under the name GENR8, alongside Ill Factor as Alliance, and as The Chosen alongside SST, Glitch. As a man with a diverse production portfolio, it comes as no surprise to know that his background is equally diverse. From his successive Drum Corp World Finalist titles in 1997 and ’98, to his experience teaching sound engineering at the prestigious Full Sail academy, to post production projects for the 3D-animation studio Dreamworks, it is no surprise that both his drum skills and production skills are amongst the best in the genre. Besides the previously mentioned projects, he is also constantly collaborating with some of the scene’s up and coming all-stars as well as long time heavyweights such as DJ Craze with whom he has done several successful tracks. His colab. with infiltrata “positive aggression†has been getting the rinse treatment in dancefloors around the globe for a while now. His last colab with counterstrike from south africa was picked up by Evol Intent Rec. and its currently out on 12†promo and on itunes. Several other colabs on the works include StuC4C, Gein, Brazil’s BTK, Psidream and some more work with Infiltrata. Between all his projects combined, GENR8’s belt is getting thick with labels like Human, BC Presents, Evol Intent, Intercom, Cartel, Nemesis, Habit, Incite and Cymbalism just to name a few. This year promises to be a heavy one for Rene as he will be adding to his already intricate schedule with a strong focus on the DJ platform. 11. VICTOR CALDERONE Listen - http://www.victorcalderone.com/ Victor Calderone is not the kind of artist to dwell in the past. As a musician and DJ, he is set apart from his contemporaries by his constant desire to push the boundaries of his genre, inspiring both his fans and collaborators alike with his music. Vic (to his friends) has had an amazing career of successful residencies, chart-topping productions and star-studded remixes. But his ever-growing popularity and forward-thinking sound prove that he’s just getting started. A DJ with an underground vibe and cult following very early on, Victor shot to dance music stardom with massive hits like Give It Up, Beat Me Harder, and Resonate. His natural studio talent attracted some very big attention, leading to remix work with some of pop music’s most popular artists, including Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Beyonce, and Madonna (with whom he has worked a stunning total of ten times). However, it was his collaboration with Sting on the single “Desert Rose,” in which Sting recorded new vocals to match Calderone’s re-worked version, that especially stands out. Sting’s very first dance remix spend an unbelievable 80 weeks on the Billboard dance music chart (nine at number one), and was very well received by the artist himself: “Victor Calderone is highly energetic and his musical contribution helped introduce ‘Desert Rose’ to an entirely new audience. I look forward to working with him again.” – Sting Anyone who has experienced a Victor Calderone party firsthand will tell you that it is Vic’s ability to create sexy, spiritual live gigs that truly sets him apart. A real “DJ’s DJ,” his sets are able to blend the old with the new, the crowd favorite with the obscure, and to span genres from banging tribal to techy minimal with grace and energy. It is no wonder, then, that his residencies read like a veritable timeline of club land itself. He has played at Manhattan institutions Limelight and Life, ruled Miami with a high profile residency at Liquid during the club’s heyday, and held down an impressive three year run at fabled venue The Roxy. Never one to rest on his impressive laurels, Victor has continued to challenge himself with a rigorous global tour schedule and groundbreaking projects such as his massive, self-produced event “Caligula,” in 2001. This 5000 person party at Hammerstein Ballroom featured live vocal performances by Cindi Lauper, acrobats, and a 50 piece orchestra. He has released best selling mix albums like “E=VC2” (volumes 1 & 2) and “Resonate,” and even arranged the music for a number of Dolce & Gabana and Versace runway shows in Milan. Most recently, Victor has taken the sum total of his musical history and inspiration, and channeled it into the experience that is “Evolve.” Whether on tour in Australia, Europe, South America, Israel, Japan, & Dubai, or at “Evolve” events in the states such as Crobar (NY and Miami), the “Evolve” brand has become synonymous with over-the-top debauchery, quality music, quality production and dazzling lighting. Especially influential to Victor has been his residency at Stereo Montreal, an amazing five years and counting that he credits with shaping his current sound. This sound, and the essence of his live gigs, has been magically distilled into his most recent album, aptly titled “Evolve,” released on Ultra Records in 2007. But Victor is not done yet. He has formed a number of successful musical relationships with the industry’s best and brightest, including DJ Vibe, Chus & Ceballos and Peter Bailey, with whom he collaborates on the decks and in the studio. The Brooklyn native also recently added a cutting-edge new studio to the DUMBO loft he shares with his wife & partner Athena and their son, where he will soon begin work on his long-anticipated artist album. The future, for Victor Calderone and his fans, is looking truly inspiring. <img src="http://buzzlife.com/promo/2tribes_web.jpg" height="370" width="235" align="right"> 2 TRIBES www.blush-tonic.com | www.nuvomusic.com | www.myspace.com/twotribesdc Sick tribal beats! You'll often hear this exclaimed when the DJ duo 2 Tribes takes control of the dancefloor and there is no doubt why. The duo's members, Ray Kang & Barrett, bought their first pair of turntables together back in 2000. They each went on as individuals to establish reputations for rocking dancefloors throughout the DC area for 3 years before returning to their roots and banding together to form 2 Tribes in 2004. With numerous DJ residencies in the DC area, 2 Tribes have played at the largest, hottest, and banging clubs in the area and beyond, alongside many of their favorite and most influential DJ's such as fellow drum worshipers Pablo Ceballos and Peter Bailey. With this experience, 2 Tribes have built a reputation for playing dark, techy beats, laced with soulful melodies and electro stabs -- all with their eyes and ears firmly fixed on a rocking, sweating dancefloor. This year the duo's reach has continued to grow beyond the DC area, landing gigs in Florida at the Winter Music Conference, Texas, and New York, and with regular Internet radio broadcasts. Their first music production is set to roll out in 2008 so the sick tribal beats will be heard louder and farther! Beware their drums. Recently signed to Plant Music for an original album deal, to be internationally distributed and published. Backed by Stretch Armstrong and Dominique (of The Glass). Countless celebrities reach out for new Tittsworth tracks, from Gorillaz producers and Z-Trip, to DJ AM and the band Good Charlotte. His "success is the culmination of his numerous appearances on top 10 lists and play lists, as well as critical praise for his releases... so, keep a look out" DnB in the Mink room DARKENETIKS Expansion Broadcast | Strangeland Records | Fancy Beer Crew - DC Darkenetiks is a long time supporter of the DC drum&bass scene, who looks to recreate only the best vibes from years past with every set he plays today. Now a well known member of the DCDNB community, he brings an infectious energy with him when rotating the wheels of steel. If a tune doesn’t work for the dancefloor, you won’t hear him play it. Variety is his spice and his selection gets the dancefloor cooking. The end result: a soundtrack to for the Robotic Apocalypse, with a splash of soul. Kind of like a Sci-Fi Disco gone wild. ALTERED-ENCRYPTION Under the Influence | Strangeland Records, DC Altered-Encryption (Alter-Ego & Encryption) have been playing drum & bass in the DC/VA/MD area for the past two and a half years and have been huge supporters of the drum & bass scene as a whole for even longer. 13. BUZZLIFE PRESENTS: DJ DAN DJ DAN is one of America's most highly sought after DJ/producers who continually breaks new musical ground. Beginning as Los Angeles' top techno DJ in the early 90's, he went on to inspire the breakbeat trend a few short years later with the classic anthem "Loose Caboose." Later DJ DAN reinvented the sound with "Needle Damage"--a fusion of all that is hard and funky. He has toured the world over, releasing numerous highly celebrated singles and popular CD's. A native of Olympia, WA, DJ DAN first experienced music as a welcome escape, surrounded as he was by nine brothers and sisters. By age 14, he'd figured out how to rig his tape deck to the turntable to record to tape. Around this time, he also developed a passion for clothing design, so much that he was later accepted into Seattle's prestigious Thomas Edison School of Design, from which he graduated at the top of his class. Attending his first rave in L.A. in 1991 put his design career on hold. "Something flipped, " he recalls. "I realized my true calling. I knew this was something I must do." DAN spent every waking minute learning the art of mixing, scratching and programming, and soon he was ready to test his mettle in the club scene. He hooked up with L.A. DJ Ron D Core, and by 1992, DAN had emerged as one of the cities top DJ's at a time when the city's rave scene hit its peak. "The parties were so fresh, so colorful," he remembers. "There were no categories back then, nobody came in with preconceived notions of what the music should be. Those were the moments that started the trends." As the L.A. rave scene waned, DAN and Ron launched No-Doz, a musically diverse club that set a new standard for after-hour parties. Meanwhile, DAN was also beginning to get frequent bookings in San Francisco, eventually causing him to move north. His involvement with the Bay Area DJ collective Funky Tekno Tribe was a significant milestone on the establishment of what is known today as the signature West Coast house sound. The sounds of the DJ's--which included fusing funk and hip-hop with breaks and melodies--were a great influence on DAN, and caused him to revisit those sounds he loved so much in his youth, thus morphing into his own personalized sound. DJ DAN's international profile expanded exponentially with the release of the groundbreaking "Loose Caboose" by the Electroliners, a classic track he co-wrote and co-produced with Jim Hopkins. It was soon picked up by XL Records in the U.K., which led to a fruitful partnership between DAN and famed DJ Carl Cox. The Electroliners continued to create many remixes, which only bolstered DJ DAN's reputation as a producer. Since then, he's remixed projects for Keoki, Groove Armada, Filter, A Tribe Called Quest, Olive and Orgy, the latter of which obtained platinum status with "Blue Monday." When asked about the direction of music today, DAN says, "Music is hard to categorize now than it's ever been. Techno guys playing tracks slowed down could be house...speeded up could be techno. I don't think it should be classified. It should be based on if it's good or not. A good record is a good record." As for his own persona, DJ DAN defies the conventional wisdom that the DJ has to retain a kind of standoffish mystique. "I got into this," says DAN, "because I love how people unite on the dance floor, bringing in their own energy and excitement. So, I never turn my back on the crowd." And they've never turned their backs on him. DJ DAN remains a towering figure in the world of dance music, always a step ahead in bringing new musical styles to his fans. He is a DJ for the people burning up dance floors around the world. SCOTT HENRY Flashback in the Martini Room Jason Royce For almost 10 years Jason has been working in the Washington, DC nightlife scene and for the past 6 years has been spinning a continuous mix of 70's disco and 80's retro music for a mostly gay crowd at Cobalt in DC's Dupont neighborhood. While other DJ's are consumed with new music, Jason has been focused on the old and plays it in a way only a handful of other DJ's do, and prefers to stick to original mixes when he does. While Jason puts together the details of his Flashback party club tour, he's flattered that the Buzz crew has invited him to play and hope the kids enjoy his mix of classic pop, dance, freestyle, hip-hop, disco and just plain fun party music. Jason was just voted "Best DJ" for the 3rd straight year by the readers of the Washington Blade newspaper in their annual "Best of Gay DC" survey. DnB in the Mafia Room introducing... THE FINNERTYS! 15. M.A.N.D.Y. The Get Physical story begins on a tennis court in Saarbrücken, near the German-French border. That’s where Patrick Bodmer met Philipp Jung on a summer’s day twenty years ago. Their lifelong friendship and musical partnership was sealed on their next meeting, at the high board of the local swimming baths. After many hours of discussion they were jumping, and were virtually brothers from then on. Together they ran wild and wished for a life that could only be about their great loves - collecting records, throwing parties and meeting girls. They dreamt of a way to live as a child, running happy and free. When youthful desire had to make way for sensible adult concerns they parted ways. At 25 Patrick and Philipp were reunited in Frankfurt, then the hub of Germany’s flourishing house and techno scene. Philipp worked for Snap’s record company; Patrick studied and lived as an artist. They began their first musical activities with releases on local independent imprints and devised their unofficial Lust (eng: joy, zest, delight) parties as an excuse to play records. Later Patrick acquired an old brewery as an atelier that served as their cauldron for ideas, art and wanton personal experimentation. They stopped in 1997 and the final twang of traditional career values saw Philipp move firstly to Cologne as A&R of Jive, and later to Berlin to do the same job for V2. Patrick finished studying before taking a sensible day job he quickly detested. Over the next years they consumed music, raved and span records at every opportunity. DJ T and Patrik (The Sunsetpeople), from Frankfurt’s Monza club, heard them play at a party and noticed them on the dancefloor, stamping their feet and ripping their clothes. They became close friends, and M.A.N.D.Y. have held a Monza residency since 2001. The same year their old pals Arno and Walter (Booka Shade) moved from Saarbrücken to Frankfurt. The four intensified their work together and again talked of starting a label. The first official M.A.N.D.Y. release, a remix of French electronic band Galleon, was chosen as the official German single and went stratospheric sales charts. DJ work poured in but they couldn’t reconcile with the commercial scene and abandoned it after a few short months. M.A.N.D.Y. liken their next moves to a last exit, a final chance to do something special before time ran away from them. They decided to create a label with their friends Booka Shade and DJ T, utilising the talent of the close friends in their circle. They called it Get Physical: in tribute to the dancefloor; in memory of their meeting; for their love of disco, acknowledging the obsession with Olivia Newton-John. It was born from pure desire, the need to create something tangible from their lifelong passion. In 2002, M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade moved to Berlin seeking a new creative kick. What they found was a confluence of artists and ideas, and a constant shower of music that washed over and immersed them. It was productive, intense and satisfying. Living and working together their strong relationships provided the perfect foundation for future growth. Since the creation of the label, M.A.N.D.Y. have come into their own as artists and DJs. Their natural easy friendship allowed their skills to gradually flourish and their heartfelt excitement for what they do ignites every floor. Mixing the first Get Physical label compilation in 2004 sent their sound beyond Europe and they’re sought after remixers working with artists as diverse as The Knife, Seelenluft, the Sugababes, Hans Peter Lindstrom and Fisherspooner. And though they travel the world they treasure the family vibe that supports them in Berlin. For M.A.N.D.Y. this isn’t a job and isn’t about success. It’s about partnership and friendship and a realisation that dreams can come true.
