    KARL ALMARIA (Chicago)

Bunchlox Music :: Hudd Traxx :: Guess Who? :: Red Brunette :: Epiphic

    opening set by:

    WALT ZINK (Boston)

Karl Almaria loves a wide range of music, but living in Chicago almost all of his life has given him the opportunity to witness the evolution of house music over the years from its local early stages to the worldwide sound it is now. Today, Karl can be found not only enjoying house music, but living it as well. Whether it’s spinning alone, at a bar for 15 people or at an event for 1500 people, Karl is simply a DJ at heart that enjoys it all. “Yeah, there’s nothing like creating a vibe and connecting with a receptive crowd … but there’s also something special about connecting with the music alone.â€

Karl also heads up house record label, Bunchlox Music. The imprint’s consistent quality releases have quickly created an international following. Bunchlox tracks have received DJ support from house heavyweights such as Diz, DJ Heather, East Coast Boogiemen, Mark Farina, and Miles Maeda. Like DJing, Karl’s great ear for music has been successful in selecting the best of both established and up-and-coming producers. Bunchlox Music has been one of the first labels to sign artists such as Avondale Music Society, Jake Childs, Jazzy Eyewear, Jonn Hawley, Sound Republic, and Southern Roots. “If it’s good, it’s good … and people will feel it, no matter whose name is on the record.â€

Along with DJing and running Bunchlox, Karl has recently been focusing on production. With only a few years in the studio, his original tracks and remixes are already appearing in big name DJ sets (including Derrick Carter, Diz, DJ Heather, Mark Farina, and Raoul Belmans) and have become the subject of track IDs in many underground house circles. Karl has been signed for several releases (Hudd Traxx, Guess Who?, Red Brunette) and has been working on many more. “Never thought that I would ever say this, but I might enjoy producing just as much as I enjoy DJing.†Enjoying the music more than ever, Karl is showing no signs of slowing down. Be on the lookout, as Karl Almaria and Bunchlox Music are two names you will continue to hear much more from in the future!

Boston based Deep House producers and guru's

    the ShadowKings

    (uno, gossip, utopia) Boston

opening set by: Randy Deshaies (marz, bump) Boston

Boston Producers and good friends, the ShadowKings have been making music for as long as most of us have been listening to it. Many years ago, we met the duo after being turned on to one of their mixed tapes by a close friend (yeah... that long ago, when there was still mixed TAPES). After reaching out to them, Marz began working close with the ShadowKings in 1999 to help on the promotional end of their music. In 2000, SK and Marz developed a deep house night called "Touch" which began at Vertigo (downtown), moved on to the Hong Kong (Cambridge) and eventually to the d-funked Hibernia (now Peking Tom's, downtown). But in the short 2 1/2 year span, Touch had some memoriable nights and memorable performance's from DJs such as; Julius Papp (San Fran), Ron Trent (NYC), Mateo & Matos (NYC), DJ Spen (Baltimore), etc...

The ShadowKings have been one of the greatest contribution and influence that has made Marz Entertainment what it is today. True to their word and true to their vision we only hope to be held in the same regard as the years pass. It is great to unite with our friends again... our only regret is that we hadn't done it sooner.

    JAY TRIPWIRE

    & LUKE MCKEEHAN

    (nordic trax, 2guerilla) Vancouver

Well recognized as "one of the most exciting underground house music producers" (DJ Magazine), Jay Tripwire is first and foremost a DJ. Since starting his DJ career in Vancouver's underground party scene in the mid-nineties, Tripwire has played regularly at clubs such as Fabric London and in places like Turkey, Spain, Russia, Bulgaria and Costa Rica. He has proven time and time again, playing the finest clubs in some of the most exotic locations on the planet, that when it comes to naughty basslines and dirty grooves, there's only one name: Jay Tripwire.

Luke McKeehan has been keepin' it real on the decks for many years now, in the process becoming one of Vancouver's most celebrated DJs. A native of Toronto, he now resides in Vancouver and has deejayed extensively across Europe, the US, Mexico, Japan, Australia and of course Canada. Luke has played alongside such notable DJs as Mark Farina, H-Foundation, Danny Tenaglia, DJ Heather, Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson and Ben Watt to name a few, as well as opening for such international touring acts as St. Germain, Jamiroquai, David Bowie Groove Armada & Brazillian Girls amongst others.

  4. HeadTunes and Marz Entertainment presents

    Claude_junk.gif

    CLAUDE VON STROKE

San Francisco's cut-up bleepy tech-house sound makes its first appearance in Boston on Thursday, September 28th.

Claude VonStroke is better known to locals, as Barclay Crenshaw, the owner of San Francisco 's hottest new avant-house label, dirtybird. The dirtybird label consists of Crenshaw (VonStroke,) fellow producer Justin Martin, and a wide assortment of top remixers from around the globe such as John Tejada, Sammy D, Jesse Rose, and Frankie. In 2005, dirtybird released a series of daring and creative singles that were played by everyone from Ritchie Hawtin to Damian Lazarus and received top marks from all the DJ magazines.

The idea for dirtybird began in 2003 when Barclay was producing an intense 5 hour DVD about electronic music called, “Intellect.†San Francisco newcomer, Justin Martin was hired by Crenshaw to help make house music for the DVD. Barclay quickly recognized Justin's talent and took on a role as his manager, negotiating his first deals with Buzzin'fly, Classic, and Utensil Recordings. The “Intellect†project was a labor of love for Crenshaw, taking almost 2 years to make and starring over 35 top producers and legendary DJs such as Derrick May, Swayzak, Derrick Carter, Deep Dish, Paul Van Dyk, Theo Parish, and many more. The main goal of the “Intellect†project was to make an informative dvd that could help DJs advance their careers in electronic music. The result was Crenshaw himself starting dirtybird records with Justin and a production career under the quirky alias, Claude VonStroke.

In addition to production and label management, Claude VonStroke has an intense regimen for preparation and a great ear for song selection. His DJ sets are always inspiring and surprising. You will never hear a boring bunch of monotonous tracks because just like A&R at dirtybird, Claude always takes time to find the tracks that mean something. Tricky sound effects, nasty bass, inspiring melodies, and up front originals make for a completely original experience that is not to be missed.

    SWIRL PEOPLE

    (Aroma, Tango, Tronicsole, Lowown) Belgium

    with opening set by

    ROLLAND ESS

    (Double Down Production, Marz, bump)

Raoul is one of the bump crew's absolute favorite DJs. He was the first international DJ we brought to Boston and one of the first to headline BUMP when we revamped it back in August. Raoul has layed down some of the most memorible sets in the last few years at bump. We made sure this years appearence fell on a Holiday weekend so everyone can enjoy him as much as we have. It is with great pleasure from the whole crew to have Raoul play for us again. We'll see you on the dancefloor!

    RAOUL BELMANS

Raoul deejays extensively worldwide and promoters love to see this friendly bloke coming back to their parties every time. He’s played the UK from London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Dublin and throughout Europe as well as Asia, Australia and parts of Africa.

The debut album of his main project Swirl People called “Hi mom, let’s dance†was released on the Scottish label Solemusic that hosts artists like DJ Spinna, Phil Asher, Basement Jaxx, Milton Jackson, a.o. and was highly praised by the U.K. press. Their highly anticipated 2004 follow up album "Special Combo", available on Aroma/News, featured already two heavily rotated singles on national Belgian radio including “Lideloo dow dow†and “We used to party†featuring Chi-town Dj Heather on vocals.

This is just another of many successful projects which no doubt led to his honors from the Belgian Partyguide Awards for best Belgiun House deejay and best National Producer of 2004.

    GEORGE NESSIS

It is with very mixed emotions that we announce long-time friend, partner and one hell of a DJ, George Nessis is leaving Boston for Los Angeles in September. Of course, this is a positive move for George being in the film industry. He has been such an inspiration to us all as a DJ and House Music guru. He has made a permanent mark in the Boston dance music scene both the founder of Bananza Music and one of the founding members of bump. And although he will be missed, we wish him the best of luck and continued success of his career and very reputable record label. You always have a home in Boston!
