TJR Eats, Sleeps, and Breaths Potty Mouth Music: New EP features 2 original tracks + remix by Klaus Hill CHICAGO—On his debut EP for Potty Mouth Music, DJ/producer TJR from New York works his signature acid house sound into something fresh, funky and infectious. The Eat, Sleep, Breathe EP bridges TJR’s knack for old-school sampling with the forward-thinking sounds of house and electro. The result is a three track EP that includes the vocal-heavy “Good Evening Chicago,†including a remix by Sydney, Australia’s Klaus Hill; and “I Don’t Know Where,†a disco influenced cut heavily reworked with a fidget twist. “I’ve always had a strong connection to Chicago and house music,†says TJR, an industry veteran of more than 15 years. In producing “Good Night Chicago†as part of PMM 025, TJR brings the energy of a live show to the studio, as he pays homage to one of the scene’s most influential cities. “Creating a song dedicated to the city that keeps redefining house music was a goal of mine,†he says. Growing up in suburban Connecticut, TJR’s early years consisted of hockey, golf and suburban debauchery. Once an aspiring golf pro, TJR traded in his clubs for a set of turntables after attending his first rave in mid-’90s. He soon translated his love for mixing into producing it. Taking note from artists such as Terry Mullan, Armando, Mike Ink, Paul Birken and Ian Pooley, he landed on the Catalyst label before once again shifting his sound to the fidget/electro house scene. Original tracks on Wearhouse Music—along with remixes for labels such as InStereo Recordings, Eden Records and Promo—have positioned TJR amongst some of the scenes finest. The producer/DJ says he was trying to make his latest release a fun addition to the PMM label. “Life shouldn’t be taken so seriously and I try to reflect in my music,†he says. Rockwell D Heats Potty Mouth Music Label with “Burning Up†EP Birmingham duo debuts first, full length house EP for PMM feat. Scott Cooper remix CHICAGO—Rockwell D returns to the Potty Mouth Music spotlight for the first time since fall 2008 with “Burning Up,†the label’s latest house-heavy EP featuring three original new tracks and a remix by Potty Mouth artist Scott Cooper. The production duo of Ade Robinson and Sheff H. made waves on Potty Mouth Music with their remix of Pete Vaydex’s “My Orange Vacuum Cleaner†released as part of PMM 015 “Time for Time Out†EP. Now Rockwell D takes their solo production talents to the forefront on PMM 021, bringing an inflated brand of energy and funk set to work crowds until dawn. Rockwell D is no stranger to frenzied crowds. As residents at the renowned Birmingham clubs of Miss Moneypennys and Gatecrashers, Robinson and Sheff have been attracting attention of partygoers for more than five years. What began as a solo residency for Robinson soon turned into a partnership after the two met in 2006. Robinson helmed the decks while Sheff, a business minded and technically-savvy DJ, shopped for new music opportunities. His background as a house remixer for London’s Relentless Records led to them teaming up and remixing side project for one of Miss Moneypennys owners. “We went in the studio and nailed three mixes—one which was used on the release,†Sheff says. “We have a great understanding and balance in the studio together, which made for a great start to the Rockwell D project.†Since then, the duo has kept their production pace as high-energy as their house tracks For their latest Potty Mouth coup, Rockwell D presents “Burning Up,†an EP featuring three original tracks including, “Your Can’t Cool,†“Tempo Critical†and “Crazy Hoe.†Potty Mouth’s Cooper lends his remix skills to “You Can’t Cool†turning out a twisted version of the original that chugs with a globular bassline paired with funky grooves. In addition to their latest release on Potty Mouth Music, Rockwell D continues to tour globally, hold down regular play dates in Ibiza, Russia and Switzerland. There recent success on Urbanfire Records includes their original mix of “Girls Meltdown†feat. Gappy Ranks simultaneously hitting the No. 1 spots on djdownloads.com hip hop and garage Top 100 charts. The success of “Whats Up†and “Plain Loco†also on Urbanfire has further increased the visibility and viability of Rockwell D on underground and commercial dance scene. Robinson says he takes his mission to heart. “When I play, I aim to have total control of the dance floor, give the crowd an unforgettable and uplifting experience and to play something fresh—all the while considering the impact of the music,†he says. In pairing relentless, electro-heavy grooves over hip-hop influenced vocals, Audiostalkers create a collection of tough beats that are playful enough to inspire a party wherever they drop. Comprised of members Brinx (Kim), Slimmy (Jimmy) and Bombanonymous (Simon), Audiostalkers have performed as live act across Sweden for the past two years. Kim and Simon met while hold residencies at Stockholm’s infamous STASH Club, where they served as late night purveyors of the Swedish hip-hop scene, which mixes a big blend of Miami bass, krunk, B-more club, electro and fidget house. The team’s late musings turned into a few studio-inspired sessions through the help of Jimmy, a studio genius who dug the duo’s twisted sound but came at it through a more refined ear. “I dropped numerous other projects I was working on in the studio at the time to in order to fully focus on what I called their ‘forward thinking party music,’†Jimmy says. His tactics paid off, and shortly after, Audiostalkers was born. Since 2008, the trio has produced everything from electro bangers and deep grooves to fidget house layered with rap vocals. While “Gouled Felem†is Audiostalker’s electronic label debut, Kim, Jimmy and Simon have collaborated with several artists on remixes including Rico Tubbs, Keith McKenzie, Nikkal Fieldz and—most recently—Santiago & Bushido on Potty Mouth Music. “Gouled Felem†features five electro-inspired house tracks including: “Front to Back†feat. D-Chi; “Beat Glitches†feat. Zerina; “Front to Back†(Santiago & Bushido remix); “Beat Glitches (Radio Friendly Edit); and the title track, “Gouled Felem.†As for the name of their debut EP? “Gouled Felem is a Somalian name,†Kim explains. “The tracks named after a really old lady who used to shop at a friends store.†Potty Mouth Music’s 23rd EP “Gouled Felem†is now exclusively available in the online store of Beatport.com for the next four weeks; it will be digitally distributed to all music download sites in May. His original sound fuses jacking house and techno, with samples from all musical eras and genres. Influences span from James Brown to the Neptunes, and include house pioneers Dave Taylor, Derrick Carter, and Jacob London. Jon Chant began creating tracks and remixes as HiJack in 2006, for his DJ sets and mix tapes. He has since produced around 40 official HiJack tracks and remixes, whilst running self-helmed label Jack Union Records, and releasing projects under his alias Vukasin. In the past three years HiJack has become an established name in the UK’s underground house music scene. He has produced five original EPs for Potty Mouth Music, Jack Union Records, and On The Brink Recordings, and a long list of remix projects, with reworks of the likes of Magik Johnson, Lee Mortimer, and DJ Dan, for labels including Underwater Recordings and Brickhouse Records. His productions have regularly gained support from influential artists and DJs, from Moby to the Crookers, and have received frequent airplay from BBC Radio One DJs Annie Mac, Dave Spoon, and Kissy Sellout. HiJack’s DJ sets are known for being packed with unreleased tracks and re-edits, and have generated a large following for his online podcasts and mixes. In 2009 HiJack mixed the first in an official compilation series for Potty Mouth Music. Over the past year HiJack has performed at venues and festivals across the UK and Europe, for some of the world’s biggest dance brands including Ministry Of Sound, the Gatecrasher festival, and Dutch Gathering. He is currently touring the USA, with a string of shows in cities including Chicago, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles.
