Asteroid 2002MN was not detected until Monday, three days after its closest approach on June 14, when it got within 75,000 miles of Earth and was traveling at a speed of some 23,000 miles per hour, astronomers said.

it entered the earths atmosphere at that size it was closer to us then the moon, "the biggest such space rock in decades to get this close" and if it wouldve struck it couldve caused almost 800 miles worth of damage and traveling at 23,000 miles an hour missing by 75,000 miles is not all that much do the math... the asteroid was the same size as a soccer field!!! did you even read the article??? wtf...

it basically passed within 3 hours of our asses. the impact of something that big in like, the center of manhattan is enough to easily blow the island off the map.

i suppose they're supposed to get some astronauts out there in a space shuttle with some small nuclear detonators that they set on the surface of the asteroid after an oh-so-treacherous landing while it's approaching earth orbit and blow it to smithereens just in the nick of time saving man- and woman- kind as we know it in a blaze of glorious heroism?
