obby
Holden And Thompson - NothingJames Holden first burst onto the music scene with the now infamous 'Horizons'. Since then he has produced several other singles, including 'One 4 You' and 'Solstice' but here on 'Nothing', he for the first time introduces a vocalist within the track, in this case singer Julie Thompson, and the results have already spoken for themselves over the past few months. Here's why.. A low sub bass oozes through on the intro of the 'Original Mix', as subtle synths slowly move tbrough the beats, moving forward to the next stage. As the familar Holden bassline kicks in, the emotive vocals of Julie Thompson rain down upon the synth arrangement, the resulting effect giving the track a large sense of depth, the xylophone effects adding yet another twist to this already enchanting track. For the grand finale everything fades down slowly to just the underlying bass before kicking back in with glorious harmony. As equally magical as it sounded a year ago. However, James obviously felt there was several directions he could take the track in, and the '93 Returning Mix' offers a different twist altogether, running the vocals through a series of filtered and then weaving them through a driving beat arrangement that loops and flips the vocals, causing it to distort and fluctuate within the groove, just building momentum until your brain feels like it's going to fry with the overpowering sounds drifting through the speakers. A superb remix where Mr Holden proves he has more than one trick up his sleeve. Since leaving Silver Planet, James has kept a low profile until now, but hopefully we will hear more new material from him soon. In the mean time keep your eyes peeled for the Silver City remix 12" of 'Nothing' which is also available and offers a totally different perspective to this addictive track.See for yourself (sample all sides of this double pack here)http://www.groovetech.com/PhoenixData/SilverStream/Pages/srvltRecMed?SKU=35618
