arrakis
Pod> I do live "here" (though maybe I frequent Shadow Lounge just a little bit less than you)... and I was at the Mix in early 2000. pod
The Mix was a victim of it's own success. Being that it operated beyond the established hours, it drew intense scrutiny from the city, who just failed to understand that for some people the night does not end at 5 AM (hell if the mayor has his way, he'd have the night end at 2 AM). Yeah they beat back the lawsuits, but at the cost of attorneys' fees and an unreasonable 9 AM closing time. This severely hampered their business, as a club open for a scant 4.5 hours can barely operate. They tried being a record store during the day, but Grooveman Music has that market sewn up, and The Mix died an untimely death. I know what your reply for this is, that anyone up past 5 AM is on drugs. Maybe, maybe not. I can recall many a night where I would hang out at Level, Shadow, or crobar, and then dash over to the mix for a good night cap...sober mind you. The music and energy of the place was enough to wake me up....Grant it, The Mix had it's problems..high cover, got crowded easily, and the A/C was a POS, but it still had an energy and atmosphere unlike any place stateside. My friend summed it up best last wednesday when he said "Remember how we used to all get together at the mix? What happened to those days?" ravepapa
WELL ALL I HAVE TO SAY IF THE MAYOR DECEIDESTO PUSH THE CLUB SCENE BACK TO 2AM CLOSING THAT'S WHEN THE SCENE WILL HAVE TO GO BACK UNDERGROUND.... I FEEL THIS IS WHERE IT IS HEADING.... EITHER THAT OR THE PEOPLE NEED A CHANGE..... sobeton
“The Music and energy of the place was enough to wake me up”; Pod that is so true… The Mix was pure energy at the max. I don’t know; I think Ravepapa may be right. I could definitely see the scene going back underground. Don’t know if that would be such a terrible thing… By the way, just curious if anybody has been to Church at Salvation?Peace,Sobeton
pod
A "new underground" would be a good thing, but not bought about by politicking. I'd rather see a new underground in response to rapid commercialization of a scene...fighting to get a political move reversed may be more than the 'scene' could take...so even if you despise clubs, please take a stand the next time this issue is broached..I'd hate to see South Beach become another Times Square case. Back to the subject at hand, though. Does anyone have any new concrete info on Fuel..opening date?
raverdoll
sobeton: yes! i love church! personally i'd rather sleep in on saturday and go early sunday morning to church the vibe is awesome, and it's just an awesome place to go and hang out. once a month they have a party where they open the whole club, and that's called bump... when it's "escuelita" (the new name now) they only open the upstairs part.
