I was just at Tobys 2 weeks ago.... i love to shot pool there and play tuneage in the jukebox.

i was passing through downtown yesterday, and it looks like lots of work still needs to be done inside sonar (hey, the door was open, so i had a quick look). also, there were a number of promoter types coming and going (unless the carpenters have given up tool belts and work boots for wrap-around designer shades, tight shirts, and kenneth cole shoes). it must be difficult to have business meetings in the middle of a construction site, but it looks like they're doing their best. the activity is encouraging - the area could use a nightlife upgrade.

Sounds good to me.... i hope they add some house-type lounges in Hollywood... there really isn't one down there... I diggggg O'Hara's a lot and octopussy is okay.... but yeah, downtown hood needs an upgrade..

Thanks fer the update:D

Hollywood has been on the rebound for 20 years! On paper it looks good and should work... but it never does. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see it thrive. But, until they kick the Trash out of town it will still be the City That Could Have Been Great.

guyman, at least there's finally some serious talk about moving the greyhound bus station off of young circle. no other neighborhood in the city wants it, which is rather telling. it's hard to attract bigger and better businesses to the area when new street people arrive daily in downtown. the local church soup kitchen ceased operating recently, and the nearby henderson mental health clinic is completely overwhelmed. the cops are doing what they can to keep the peace, but they aren't social workers (or miracle workers).

meanwhile, the city's special downtown community re-development agency is backing a different scheme every six months, confusing business owners and alienating potential allies. croneyism is rampant, and the city's code enforcement officers have become the mayor's enforcers. rival developers frustrate attempts to rebuild, and the landlords would rather lose tenants than collect reasonable rent from small businesses. the city continues to spend lavishly on the art and culture center, which does little to justify its existence beyond giving the b-list society women a place to feel important.

basically, it's almost as bad as south beach before the renewal. just give it a little more time, and who knows what could happen.

I agree with your entire statment (but edited it down for space).

I think that Hollywood has been waiting for Casino's to save them... but if you look at Atlantic City, NJ - Its sill a dirty, poor city. Casino's will bring clean casino's but leave the rest of the city like shit. THEY need to fomulate a plan & stick to it...
