  3. pricing is relative. as with most things, you (usually) get what you pay for. will the dj show up on time? or at all? how good is hir sound system? track selection? mixing? people skills? do you want lighting? real lighting, or just a couple of guitar center scratch and dent sale moonflower effects, a demo color changer, a few rope lights, and a micro strobe that flickers all night long and gives you a headache? are you planning a house party for a few friends, renting out a hall, or what?
  4. chris had me on his show last year - great experience. the station can be heard in much of broward county, plus they have a webcast.
  5. more reading material from the early new york punk days: please kill me, by legs mcneil and gillian mccain http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0140266909/qid=1087520648/sr=ka-1/ref=pd_ka_1/104-9795257-0244703
  6. very sad - one of rock's most influential guitarists, and a genuinely nice guy, too. btw, your record collection sounds a lot like mine . . .
  7. i wonder if we know the same "chompers." does s/he live in miami beach?
  8. there's no such thing as a "handgun license" in the state of florida. the screening process for a handgun purchase is: go to a federally-licensed firearms dealer, fill out some paperwork, present a valid form of picture identification, have your name run through ncic (background check), and wait for 24 hours. the screening process for a concealed weapon permit is: fill out more paperwork, "demonstrate competency with a firearm," get fingerprinted at the local police department or sherrif's office, submit any needed court documents, submit a passport-type photo, have your application notarized, pay the $117 fee, and then wait 90 days for processing.
  9. why pump up the volume for a small crowd that's drinking, not dancing? play for the people who are in the club - not the people you wish were in the club. i'm glad i had my earplugs.

  12. sorry, but those vests are designed to carry spare ak-47 magazines. i don't see any external wires, batteries, switches, tape, or other evidence that they have been converted into "bomb vests."

    MIA last night.

we actually had dinner there, but had to go home early due to this ongoing sleep deprivation experiment we've been conducting. btw, look for a mia mini-review in an upcoming issue of broward new times.

according to one of the owners, mia is now 18+ for women.
  15. it really depends on proximity, but permanent deafness is not that likely. the energy of a "sonic boom" is mostly very low frequency sound - infrasound - which the human ear tolerates relatively well compared to other frequencies. the shock wave can break windows, however, and the air force takes a dim view of those who cause such property damage. i personally know one f-15 pilot who was reprimanded and sent door-to-door to apologize to the inhabitants of a small nevada town after he went supersonic during a low-level training mission.

  17. it's been a while since i last visited the alpha training camp, but i'd suggest waterborne infiltration instead of air assault.

    Lights at Privledge

btw, care to comment on the martin freekie for small-venue applications? some people swear by it, but i just swear at it. should i give it another chance?

unfortunately, the 2518 only offers 30 separate 6-scene patterns. programming it with lightjockey would be a bit of a waste, especially since you can't use macros. at least the six faders allow instant control over color, gobo, speed, pan, tilt, and intensity (strobe) for up to 12 different fixtures. not bad for a cheap board, as long as the club has an enthusiastic and creative operator. i'll definitely check out that wireless controller you mentioned.
